Further plot details are scarce, other than the first sequel will involve the children of Worthington and Saldana’s characters, but Cameron promises the end result moviegoers will see on screen is nothing short of jaw dropping.
“I deal with images in that world every single day and there are some days when I look at those images and say, ‘This is really amazing,’” Cameron remarked to the Sun. “I’m not patting myself on the back with that comment.”
Much of the new Avatar action will take place underwater, with Cameron utilizing underwater motion-capture technology.
“It’s a distillation of some of the best designers in the world and a great cast,” Cameron said. “But if you’ve got the script right and the design right and you have a great cast, then it’s just an iterative process to get the whole thing shot and assembled.”
So can the Na'vi breathe underwater or something?
Apparently, Part Of Avatar 2 Is Being Shot Underwater[Kate Winslet] plays a character who's part of the Sea People, the reef people. The one thing she did do is demand that she do all her own water work. I said, 'All right, that's fine, we'll have to teach you how to free dive.' The other actors are up to three- and four-minute breath holds.
The Metkayina Clan will include Bailey Bass as Tsireya, a graceful and strong free-diver – the young Neytiri of the ocean. Filip Geljo will portray Aonung, a young male hunter/free-diver son the Olo’eyktan of Metkayina Clan. Duane Evans Jr. rounds out the bunch as Rotxo, who is also a young male hunter/free-diver.
Cliff Curtis is playing a new character named Tonowari, the leader of the Metkayina, a reef clan from Pandora. James Cameron has been saying for years that a lot of Avatar 2, and presumably the other sequels, will be taking place underwater. With this new casting, it looks like that will indeed be the case.
