Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

I wish I had too, but I guess it was exclusively attached to Dr Strange in the US only.

I don't know the Theater I was in nobody said a thing about the Avatar 2 everybody was just silent didn't get any claps or cheers.

I had a few people at my theater that kinda clapped and gasped... which is even more impressive because they accidentally showed the 3D version of the trailer at our 2D screening for Doc Strange 2.

The underwater shots looked great, but the trailer overall didn't really have a hook. It was essentially a reminder that Avatar exists and still looks about the same as you remember.

I'm from Europe, we got it as well. :)

There was absolutely no reaction to the trailer in my theater and I heard some kids ask their parents who are the “blue people”? It’s unfortunate because I remember the epic feeling of watching the first trailer when I was in high school with the music and sense of scale. This just felt too intimate for something that should have came out over a decade ago.

There was no reaction at my theater tbh. Trailer was cool but I was slightly underwhelmed for some reason.

Eh I remember a similar lukewarm reception to the originals trailers and look how that turned out. I don't even care much for this series but know well enough that none of that matters when it comes to a Jim Cameron film.

This.

I remember the first teaser was met with a tepid response, even some calling the effects bad. Most used the word “underwhelmed”.

I bet if you pulled up the first Avatar thread on this very message board you’d find it lol

It was the second trailer I think sometime in September that explained the story more, where the buzz started to get going.

People knocking this for looking not better than the original make me chuckle because that's fine with me.

The original Avatar still looks great and better than 99.9% of the movies today when it comes to CGI. And that .1% is reserved by guys like Nolan, Faverau, and Villaneuve who do a lot of CGI mixed with practical effect stuff.
And it's not like people don't gobble up movies with really subpar to bad CGI anyway

Avatar was so ahead of it's time when it came to CGI so I'm 100% fine with 2 not looking "better" than the first movie

As a fan of Cameron’s films, that’s one of the things I like about his mindset. He doesn’t rest on his laurels when it comes to tech even if so many other filmmakers and studios do.

The VFX look as stunning as the 2009 movie. I think Cameron is saving the major awe moments when people go see it Christmas time.

But the teaser didn’t do anything for me, story wise.

Honestly the bigger surprise for me would've been if I was impressed by the teaser storywise

most of the shots in the trailer literally look like snippets from the Flight of Passage ride lol

That may be, but it also has a 7.6 on IMDB and a 6.5 audience score in Metacritic and I expect the former to fall quite a bit. From what I've seen in general it doesn't seem to be a universally loved film, more like one with a mixed to positive reception and word-of-mouth. Cinemascore is going to show us more. In any case, we'll see if and how much the box office will be affected next week.

Saw the trailer before Dr. Strange. I gotta say, it really did nothing for me. All I could think was, all that money and they still didn’t shell out enough cash to hire Sam Worthington a dialect coach.

The funniest part in that trailer was Joel David Moore’s dreads. Good lord.

The first one was good because it was the first of its kind and introduced us to some damn good 3D. The story was basic as hell though....so unless this one can do something similar, I'll be surprised if it's nearly as big.

People expecting this to be as big as the first are either trying to set this up to fail/hating or are kinda being unreasonable.

1) Expecting every Avatar sequel to reach the financial heights of Avatar 1 is like inserting an athlete to break their points per game/match every time they lace up their shoes

2) Avatar in 2009 was a blank slate. Now it has baggage for some people.

3) The movie landscape is so different than 2009 and that will affect Avatar. Just to name a couple of things: a) there's more competition from other blockbusters b) audiences don't care that much on how good special effects are compared to in the 2000s c) people are more bullish on 3D vs it having a resurgence in 2009

I get the whole "Don't bet against Cameron" take. I feel that. But I'm just being realistic. Then again I didn't think the first movie would be as big as it would be

Will happily be proven wrong, but I doubt it
