Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

I think there would be more cause for concern if these movies haven't been in pre-production for so long. It's not like Cameron has been on an 8 year vacation since finishing the first Avatar and just jumped back into it saying "Yeah 4 movies sounds good!"

Cameron has a huge ego. but you know that he is still a smart guy when he moves away from Star Wars.

Man, I don't know...
I think James Cameron has something big and surprising up his sleeves.I don't think the guy has lost his mind.

Cameron told JamesCameronOnline yesterday that he is still writing, whether he's polishing the scripts or still writing the story, they're not sure

he said he's still riding, not writing. As in, riding the Great Leonopteryx!

Erm touch ups and scenes added/ deleated happen even during principal photography. Its' nothing new.

It's cause for concern when he's been doing touch-ups for 6 years now, lol.

This isn't Ernest Hemingway stuff. Finish the damn scripts.

I can't wait for Avatar 2 in 2060.

They are not going head up against Star Wars. That's sci-fi fantasy overkill. This will pick up the winter slate after Star Wars hype begins to fade. Just like Hobbit picked up the fantasy slack after Potter and the failed Narnia movies. You need that 10-15 year gap to build the hype. Obviously Cameron should have done something else in between, but heck, he's the richest guy left that is actively producing Hollywood films, if not the richest ever.

Star Wars hype isnt going to fade for a long time. The hype hasnt faded in the nearly 40 years the property has existed. Even during the prequels. Even when there weren't any new star wars films coming out star wars merchandise was making Lucas billions. Disney last year made $5 billion from star wars merchandise alone.

And Lucasfilm and Disney intend to do with Star Wars what Marvel and Disney have done with the MCU. Films every year for many years. And since the star wars demand and the fanbase seems to be constant and renewing with each new generation its going to be a long time before Star Wars fades and Disney stops making movies. If Cameron is waiting on the end of star wars films he will be waiting a long time.

Having to exist alongside and compete against Star Wars is the new reality. Cameron might as well grow a pair and make and release his damn Avatar films. **** or get off the pot, Jim. Cant hide in your Pandora themed bunker forever and wait on Star Wars to go away.

And I have to call BS on the notion that star wars and avatar in the same year would be overkill. No one says "Oh there is too much drama or comedies! Its overkill." Scifi and fantasy genres are as valid as the drama and comedy genres. Why should fantasy or scifi only get 1 or 2 films a year when dramas flood the market year round? If people tolerate a bunch of dramas year round they will tolerate multiple fantasy or scifi films a year. Especially fans of fantasy and scifi which is no small amount of people.

You think maybe Cameron has realized his dialogue isn't much better than Lucas'?

I think Cameron is just Cameron. A bit of an eccentric. He takes an absurd amount of time researching and developing the technical stuff for a film. The research and development and the prepwork of the technical stuff (the equipment, camera rigs, submersibles etc) seems, to me, to be his true passion.

Seems like the same thing as Lucas to me, since Lucas is content with having pieces of paper on a wall as stand-ins for his actual actors so he can focus more on the effects. Not to say Cameron would do the same thing, but both seem more concerned with the technical side than the story side.

I could somewhat sympathize with Qarich more than I could the Emperor or Vader, so I think Cam can do characters better. I'll keep an ear on the dialogue next watch though. The biggest similarity I see between the two is that where Star Wars is the Hidden Fortress and some samurai stuff, Avatar is Dances with Wolves meets The Eternal Champion.

I like Avatar more than Force Awakens. i think Cameron is a better director than JJ. but Cameron has a big ego and its all about money for him so...... SW made a lot of money and it broke Avatar's domestic record.

go.....attack him. And remember how you complained how he made avatar a cliche story that was predictible......and compare it it Force Awakens where everything was fresh and new.

p.s.: i know that his movies made a lot of money but come on Jim.....be quiet. At least JJ moves on.He doesnt waste his time with sequels. Cameron should directed Battle Angel Alita and not spend 20 years on avatar movies.

Lol at Cameron throwing shade at TFA for being derivative. Pot meet kettle.

I want Cameron to get away from this whole Avatar thing and give us some hardcore techno noir like Terminator. I want Badass Cameron to come back. I'm done with this Pocahontas stuff, and I've only gotten it once. Now we're getting it four more times. :wall:

TFA had memorable characters, which is something Avatar could never claim.

You actually have to think about that? Stunning.

As for dialogue, for someone accused of writing bad ones, Cam sure lays claim to many of the most iconic action movie quotes ever.

Huh. I never thought about Cameron vs. JJ over who's the better director.

I'm not a huge fan of either... but I'm going to say JJ.

Force Awakens > Avatar, Titanic, The Abyss, True Lies

I liked Avatar, but it's FAR from Cameron's best work. TFA>Avatar imo. And yeah, Cameron talking about TFA being "derivative" after what his last movie was, is rather hypocritical on his part.
