Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

a lot of sequels make less money . that happens when the sequel is realesed 3-4 years after. Avatar 1 made 2,7 billions in 2010. the sequel will be realesed 9 years after. the first movie

why would it be different with this movie?

I think pretty much everyone expects it to make less, just a question of how much less.

Cameron's going to get cyborg implants to extend his life so he can make Avatar 37 in 2097 and he's going to make Fox pay for the implants.

He's going to upload his mind into an Na'vi and film the sequels on Pandora guerilla style

Because James Cameron. Seriously, I don't know what it is about Cameron buy he seems to force his will into reality.

Cameron is going for the hat trick on breaking expectations.

James Cameron. Secret Green Lantern of Sector 2814

You do have to admit. The CGI/graphics would be amazing if he directed a "Green Lantern" movie

It would also have a sneakily functional screenplay with set ups, good dramatic pay offs, reversals, and inversions. Basically the opposite of the actual Green Lantern movie.

‘Avatar’ sequels will follow the family of Jake & Neytiri:

There are clues about the “Avatar” sequels to be found in “Toruk,” the Cirque du Soleil “Avatar” prequel that lands tonight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a four-night run. Let James Cameron tell you what to look out for.

“I love some of the costumes and hairstyles, so we might create a resonance there where you actually see some of the things that you see in ‘Toruk’ come into the design of the films,” said Cameron, the “Avatar” filmmaker who’s at work on a four-movie series of follow-ups. “We’ve got most of the sequel stuff already designed, but I like this idea of weaving back and forth between the two worlds, the live world and the film world.”

The plot of “Toruk,” which is named after the giant, dragon-like creatures seen in the film, won’t tie into the movies, Cameron added — but there’s some unexpected overlap there nonetheless. “The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children,” he said. “It’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans. But thematically, ‘Toruk’ manages to land very very closely to the feeling of where the sequel stories are going.”

As for the movie sequels: They’re on target to start rolling out in Christmas 2018 — at least for now. “We haven’t moved that target yet, but we will if we need to,” he said. “The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern. I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it’s an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we’re able to fulfill on that promise.”

I just find it mind-boggling that they are waiting this long.

It wasn't like going from T1 to T2 where the first movie was a fairly low-budget sci-fi/horror mash-up that made decent money but not great money. I mean the first movie was the biggest movie of all time.

I'm not understanding the hold-up here?

The hold-up - Cameron is a perfectionist. I'm pretty sure the main reason - the script.

Secondary but still super-important - schedule and new technology.

Earlier in the year came word that filmmaker James Cameron was working on not two or three but FOUR full sequels to 2009’s “Avatar” with the films currently targeting a release on Christmas Day every 1-2 years between 2018 & 2023.
This weekend, while accepting his admission in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Cameron briefly discussed the sequels (via Indiewire and revealed he hopes new tech will eventually allow for glasses-free 3D:
“I’m going to push. Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range (HDR) and high frame rates (HFR) – the things we are working toward. I’m still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen – with no glasses. We’ll get there.”
It was previously indicated Cameron wanted to shoot the films at a high frame rate, though he was only said to be considering the option and hadn’t yet made a decision. Right now it’s also unclear if the films will hit their intended schedule.

I'm sure they will do well. Still, such an insane wait.

So he's literally going to wait for this new technology to arrive before he finishes even one sequel. lol

3D with no glasses? Oh my God, Cameron has officially gone insane. He's trying to invent live theatre.

he comes up with technology ideas which no single cinema in the whole world having yet ,good luck Mr Cameron

I mean they've already on the way to a glasses free 3D with tvs... Maybe that's why it's taking Cameron this long to make it?

Glasses-free 3D is where 3D might finally become relevant (outside of Avatar films where it was already great on day 1).

Wouldn't movie theaters across the globe have to invest in this new technology? Even if it existed it would take years to implement.

You would probably have to go to special theaters and pay $50 for a ticket. And then everyone else would see it in standard 3D.

At this point they should just aim for 2019. They get a solid ten years worth of technology advancement to utilize and promote, they get to market it as a big "Ten Year Anniversary of the biggest movie of all time" (likely with yet another collectors bluray/digital release of the first one) and enough time will have passed they can hit the nostalgia button a little.

So what is the current plan? Film three films at once LOTR style?
