I remember when Elfman was a dark Gothic movie composer, most known for the Batman 89 theme and Edward Scissorhands. Now he's pretty much a generic composer with no real style of his own anymore.

Nope it’s called versatility. For many years Elfman used to get criticized for always scoring gothic fantasy/ superhero movies. But when he gets out of his comfort zone, which he often has done for plenty of movies, you accuse him of being a generic composer? Unbelievable! Guess there is no pleasing you or his detractors.

I can't wait for the previews to be released

Always one of the most exciting parts when awaiting the release of these films

I'd love if Elfman worked on the Hulk theme...loved his work in the 03 film.

Elfman has a full composer credit (alongside Tyler) in the Twins featurette.

I'm worried about how the final score will fare in the movie. Tyler and Elfman have distinct musical styles, but they're not compatible with one another. Tyler's is more in-your-face while Elfman tends to pull back and do storytelling with his music.

Elfman's superhero scores are in-your-face to an extent.

I know what you mean. It'll be completely obvious who scored which scene, and unless they've tackled it strategically, like Elfman followed certain characters or plot points or whatever, it could be really jarring.

I think they can pull it off. They wouldn't have done it if they couln't pull it off.

Elfman wrote an hour of music in three weeks, I'd say it's pretty likely he scored all that he could. Had he had another three weeks I really think we'd have got a full Elfman score. This isn't a collaboration, Elfman was brought in after Tyler had scored the entire movie. The credits reflect this, 'Music by Brian Tyler Danny Elfman' not 'Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman.'

I think Elfman's style suits Whedon far better personally, witty but always sincere. This is a collaboration I've wanted to see for a while.

Listen to Tyler's Alien v. Predator: Requiem (bombastic) and then compare it to Elfman's Batman or Spider-Man themes (they start off quiet and build up but not in your face to start with). Not to say that Brian Tyler can't do subtle and quiet music, but action movies are his bread and butter.

At best this could be a Spider-Man 2 situation where the viewer is so engrossed in the movie that one doesn't pay attention to the varied musical styles on first viewing. It was only until I saw the movie the third time that I noticed the different musical styles in varying scenes.

Worst case will be Spider-Man 3 where the music editors didn't really care to smooth over the gaps between Christopher Young's score, tracked in Elfman music from the first two films and the additional composers filling in the gaps.

As someone enjoyed the first Spider-Man score and film I noticed the ‘varied musical styles’ on my first viewing of S-M2 to the point it became distracting at times for me.

I'm suprised not a single track preview ot anything has been released.

I'm suprised not a single track preview ot anything has been released.

The physical CD release has been pushed back to May 19 in all major territories (still scheduled for April 28 in the UK)-- I guess to allow more pressings to be produced.

We should get samples within a week or so.

I read at least one tweet praising at least part of the score, stating they do the whole every characters theme thing. I thought elfman was just there to mimicking silvestris themes? Maybe he weaved that stuff throughout.

You don't hire Danny Elfman to only ape somebody else. There are hundreds of composers who can do that and for a fraction of the price.

Well that was straight from elfmans mouth he literally said he was there to add silvestris stuff

He said he used Alan Silvestri's theme (no mention of how many times) because he liked it and combined it with one of his own.

Elfman wrote an hour of music and has a full 'Music By' credit now. You don't hire Danny Elfman to be Alan Silvestri, otherwise they would have hired Silvestri in the first place. They wanted Danny Elfman music.

so glad Danny Elfman has a place in the MCU! I think his sound will suit characters like Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, especially.

Well the MTV Movie awards clip had a brief glimpse of the score. The Iron Man 3 theme returned.
