Keep The Avengers Theme established by Alan Silvestri and I'll be happy.

I just hope that they reuse the original "Avengers Group Theme" from the first film.

I really hate it at times that Marvel's sequels always seem to abandon the main themes from their previous heroes. There never seems to be any sense of continuity when it comes to that.

I agree with this. I'll be bummed if they drop Silvestri's theme altogether. It's really grown on me with repeated viewings. I'm not a big fan of Elfman either. The only theme I've ever favored from him was Spider-man 2's main theme.

Brian Tyler has always done his homework when it comes to scoring sequels. Save for like two instances (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World), every sequel he steps in has used or referenced the previous composer's themes. And even in Thor 2, he used Silvestri's CA march for that one scene.

Do we have a source for that mate?:yay:

That came from a poster on the Film Score Monthly forum thread for Tyler's Avengers: AOU score.

I go on the FSM forum occasionally, the poster who said that knows his stuff.

Silvestri’s Avengers theme had to grow on me but overall I thought it was good. Hope it’ll reprise in A:AOU. Anyways for continuity sake I would’ve kept Silvestri, but honestly I thought his Avengers score was lacking, too restrained, and nothing particularly special for a film of that scale. It was leftovers of his GI Joe and A-Team scores. From the looks of it the stakes seem to be raised in a more complex and bleak story in A:AOU. So I’m somewhat curious of what he could’ve done. But I’m not losing any sleep over his absence.

I love this theme just as much as any other hero's theme song. Gives me goosebumps. lol

Maybe the Spider-Man theme is being used in the end credits for a Spider-Man cameo. Even though it was meant specifically for the Raimi series, perhaps it's just a little nod since it is the most recognisable Spidey theme without it being the 60s cartoon theme which might not fit with the overall tone of the film. So maybe it's just an acknowledge of Elfman for using his work there.

No it's not.

Listened to it, interesting sounds like there is a new theme, and he used the old theme and segued into it.

Could be very cool.

Wonder if he was really just brought in to spruce things up, not very any specific song.

It's only speculation but Tyler has always seemed like a Marvel decision instead of a Whedon one. To me at least. I'd guess Whedon wasn't happy with his approach to some scenes and brought Elfman on board.

Fine by me, Tyler really hasn't done a stand out score in any of the Marvel movies for me.

I've mentioned it before but the only two memorable themes are Silvestri's Cap theme and the Avengers theme. I've never really felt the epic scope of the film through the music like other blockbuster scores.

Avengers need an epic theme in my opinion, nearly all the big films have a memorable theme, which when you hear makes you think of the film. I bet a lot of the GA wouldn't even recognise the Avengers theme from A1.

Man I don't know, I really really liked his IM3 theme, like a lot, IMO of course, I also liked his take on Thor in terms of direction, but I feel like that was a rush job.

IM3 was the only score of his that I've liked, tbh. I really wish he wasn't Marvel's go-to guy, but I'm not surprised. They've never seemed to put much stock in their scores.

I'll listen to them again, but it didn't stand out for me watching the film

I don't know, Bryan Tyler did the Assassin's Creed 4 OST and I found it brilliant, but his MCU soundtracks were just average.
My expectations are kinda neutral.

Again only speculation, but the only themes that it would make sense to combine with The Avengers theme would be the twins or Vision. It's possible Elfman was brought in to follow a certain character or characters.

Wild Speculation Alert!!!

Remember how at the end of the Avengers the theme music is going playing through the start of the credits, then it stops and there's the Thanos scene.

What if same thing happens again the Avengers theme is going we are seeing the credits, then the music begins to change and suddenly it goes dark a new theme emerges and the screen goes back and we see Spider-man is swinging through New York.

Elfman effectively has made a new theme for Spider-man and when he is saying he merged the Avengers theme with a new one, that is what hes talking about and it would fit perfectly in the credits.

Anyway as I say pretty wild speculation/hope

It doesn't stop, the theme plays in its entirety and fades out.

Danny Elfman says that he used Silvestri's theme in this interview. He doesn't talk about AoU very long though.

Interesting. Didn't expect him to adapt Silvestri's theme. Also cool that he actually likes the theme. Can’t wait to hear what a Silvestri/Elfman hybrid sound like since either styles couldn’t be more different.

Interesting speculation.

When does he start talking about it in the clip?
Around the 9:15 mark.

At about 9:30. He clearly says that he incorporates part of Alan Silvestri's theme into the 2nd movie. :)
But the whole interview is good and worth a listen.

I remember when Elfman was a dark Gothic movie composer, most known for the Batman 89 theme and Edward Scissorhands. Now he's pretty much a generic composer with no real style of his own anymore.
