Haven't heard the OST yet or seen the movie, but based on the reactions I really, really hope they give Elfman the full gig for Infinity War.

I'm hoping Henry Jackman or Han ****ing Zimmer gets the job for Infinity War lol

Maybe even a collaboration between several composers

I totally forgot Elfman was doing the music for this. It felt like a natural progression of Silvestri's work on the first film with all the familiar cues and character themes returning.

I liked that they brought back the Iron Legion theme from Iron man 3 when Tony was suiting up in the Hulkbuster.

But he didn't really. It was Tyler doing a lot of music and Elfman doing some other music.

Just listened to this OST. So disappointing. Just more random noise like all of the other recent Marvel Studios offerings. I was really hoping this would change the course for MS. The Avengers did such a fantastic job in having a decent, memorable theme and some genuinely amazing tracks.

I just don't get it. Was Silvestri not available? Did Whedon just want something different this time?

I guess since Ultron is a darker character, they wanted some darker and more brooding themes, ie from someone like Elfman?

Just listened to the soundtrack and Im disappointed, maybe it will improve when I actually watch the film but I doubt it. This is the area in which Marvel really needs to improve, TA had a decent theme but it was nowhere near as good as Spider-Man's theme or soemthing like that.

Im glad Henry Jackman will make the Civil War soundtrack cause he did a good job with TWS. For Infinity War I think they should either get Danny Elfmann for the full score or maybe Steve Jablonsky who scored the Transformers movies.

Film scores just not as iconic and classic as they used to be. A real shame.

Yeah this score was disappointing and unmemorable, guess TWS was just a one off.

Having seen the film, I think the score works marvellously well. Elfman/Tyler's update of the theme has an almost swashbuckling feel to it while the new material for Ultron is suitably creepy.

Listened to most of the soundtrack on my way to work this morning. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Hearing the references to Silvestri's themes mixed with familiar cues from Tyler and Elfman was actually less disjointing then I had imagined. I particularly liked the Birth of Ultron and Hulkbuster tracks.

The main problem is that nothing grips you the way Silvestri's original Avengers theme did. This really is the one area Marvel needs to improve upon: consistency in score and musical cues. In the future, mix Tyler's Iron Man and Thor cues with Silvestri's Cap and Avengers cues and we'd have some film score gold to reinforce the action and emotional beats on screen.

It seems that the score is a ‘train wreck’ in the film according to various posters from different forums, who’ve seen the movie, mention it being poorly mixed and buried under sound f/x. They even tracked in some cues from Silvestri’s Avengers during certain moments. So why hire Elfman in the 11th hour only to butcher his music too?

This is such a weird score. Putting Elfman's work right next to Tyler's only highlights how weak a composer Tyler is in comparison to both him AND Silvestri. "Ultron-Twins" is a nice bit of Elfman-y goodness, but other than that, the only parts I enjoy are the moments where Silvestri's theme comes back. I REALLY wish Marvel would ditch Tyler already. Outside of the Marvel logo music, his IM3 score is the only decent work he's done for them, imo...and that was just decent.

I'll be seriously disappointed if they completely ditched the amazing "Avengers Assemble" theme from TA. That theme was gold and if they stuck with it it could have been as memorable as the Star Wars or Indiana Jones theme. Someone please tell me the theme is still there!

It's still there. And as I mentioned it's just about the only enjoyable part of this score, imo.

Listening to the score, and as usual Brian Tyler gets :up: from me. Big improvement over Silvestri's score for the first film.

The inclusion of Danny Elfman is a bit of a headscratcher. Having him do 27 minutes and Brian do 49 minutes seems sort of random.

This score would've been perfect had they just kept Silvestri's Avengers theme, but tweaked it a bit to make it fresh, rather than making a new theme and only hinting at the original.
Thankfully they brought back Tyler's Iron Man theme and Silvestri's Cap theme.

One thing the DCCU will definitively have over the MCU is consistent themes for it's characters, mainly due to Han Zimmer's involvement.

It's on Spotify in some countries. And on YouTube too...

That’s only the amount presented on the album. Elfman wrote about 60 min of additional music and I’m assuming Tyler wrote about two hours of music (before Elfman was hired) b/c those who’ve seen the movie mentioned the score being wall to wall. But I agree why hire Elfman in the 11th hour only to butcher his music along with Tyler’s, then poorly mix it under loud sound f/x, and tracking in some of Silvestri’s music from the previous installment. This is Spider-Man 2 and 3 all over again at least in regards to the butchering of the score.

Though I have not listened to the OST album yet I’ve heard that’s pretty much what Elfman did, while at the same time making Silvestri’s main theme into his own.

Did they hire Elfman because they weren't pleased with Tyler's work? I don't know why else they would do it at the last minute. Really hoping Elfman stays on and takes over for the future.

Film scores just not as iconic and classic as they used to be. A real shame.

Two factors:

1) The studios are in love with the Hans Zimmer/Remote Control sound, ever since the first Pirates of the Caribbean film (Silvestri was booted from it after Bruckheimer heard the demos).
2) Deaths of several iconic composers: Jerry Goldsmith, Basil Pouledoris, and Shirley Walker. Those composers had a distinct but wonderful writing styles.

I wish Marvel Studios would focus on the quality of their film scores. It wasn't like Silvestri was booked solid through 2014 (he only scored the third Night at the Museum film) or 2015 -- and he likes recording in London.

Jackman will most likely get the gig due to him being the Russo bros composer for The Winter Soldier and next year’s Civil War.
