Couldn't Cap's shield only partially absorb kinetic energy due to the vibranium in it? He's been batted around even with his shield many a time over the years, so even if that was a f***-up, it's hardly an isolated one.

The fact that Cap's shield can absorb energy is rarely remembered these days. I would chalk it up to it being too big a direct blast for the shield to handle. The shield also has the Asgardian metal Uru in it now so that could affect it......but then again, it's supposed to have a 'battle scar' across it after Fear Itself so who the hell knows?

LOL! Forgot that! Uru huh?? You think that might give Cap's weapon a special property down the road??

But I agree. Writers forget Spidey's 6th sense and Cap's shield's ability , all the time.

So I dont know if anyone read AvX Infinite, the Nova story but I really enjoyed it and i think its the best use of the digital format yet. I hope they put out more of these and its only 99 cents!

I can understand if Cap took a blast from Galactus or someone ominpotent like that with his shield and couldn't take it all even with the Vibranium property, but a simple optic blast from Cyclops? It seems like Bendis just picks and chooses when Cap's shield will absorb energy or not.

I'll actually defend Bendis here because he's not the only writer that ignores that fact. Plenty of other writers have done the same in the past. Heck, Bendis is writing this story with 4 other guys and nobody picked up on it.

I think you're shortchanging Cyclops. And Galactus, for that matter. Cyclops' blasts can level mountains if he wants them to, and he didn't seem like he was holding back in that scene. Galactus, on the other hand, could easily just vaporize Cap, shield and all.

The problem is the beam was drawn too narrow. It should have been a bigger blast. It's not that big a deal anyway, Cap wasn't knocked out.

I'm telling you. Cyclops' blasts are stronger due to the crazy. It's the only explanation. :ninja:

That would be a handy explanation. Might feel a bit like a reset button if they don't have Scott still feel remorseful about how he's spiraling out of control, Apocalypse or not.

They should probably just go the same route Waid did with DD, it's working there.

I don't mind Cyclops being a little badass and assertive like he was during Whedon's Astonishing run but lately he's just been a straight up meanie.

A simple staff meeting or a "conference call" could get everybody on the same page, dontcha think??

A little frustrating for fans, at times.

True but like I said in my post, the absorbing ability of Cap's shield has been ignored by writers long before Bendis came to Marvel.

Maybe it didn't "seem" that way. But he obviously was. If he wasn't holding back, then his intent was to kill Cap. And I can't believe Clops was trying to do that. (mountain-leveling force on a fellow hero?)

I still think he was holding back.

But I also think the vibranium should have absorbed the shock and had Cap still standing in place.

I agree. But that could be fixed with a quick meeting. That's all I'm saying. Just because they've done it, doesn't mean should keep on doing it.

Or he knows Cap well enough to know that he'd block a shot. Maybe he telegraphed it.

Then again, the way Cyclops is now, I wouldn't really put anything past him. Maybe he did figure killing Cap would just remove another threat and make his life easier. That's the mentality that created X-Force, after all.

Naaah...Clops is not a murderer....

Cyclops as an evil tyrant is so exaggerated. He's the most interesting he's ever been, and is extremely important to the survival of mutants. He made X-force, but that was the extent of his "dark path" and he disbanded that.

Does Cyke also still have a bit of The Void trapped in his mind?

AvX #1 clearly showed him as unreasonably obsessed. He's not evil, he's just on the path to Crazytown.

Agreed and this is from someone who's hated him since Morrison's run

yes he does, but that hasnt been mentioned since he got it.

The Void thing is probably completely forgotten.

Cyclops isn't evil, he's just turning into a misguided fundamentalist, the very thing he used to be against.
