so, the first issue of the Back In Black event hit today, seemingly taking place after Civil War and the next issue of ASM, with very little explanation of anything, other than a mention that the registration act is still in place, and no sign of MJ or Aunt May. He does mention his wife "kicked him out" to flash while trying to act like a different person, and he does tell a picture of Aunt May and Uncle Ben that he let them both down...so...still possible that either of them are dead, but I'm leaning more towards May as I dont think he would have said the wife thing to Flash if MJ had really just died.

I was going to pick this one up but I haven't been a huge fan of Friendly Neighborhood so I passed it. By the sounds of it I didn't really miss anything. Also, the next Sensational comes out before the next ASM right? So we won't really know whats going on.

I don't read FNSM, so it won't start for me until Sensational Spider-Man...which is really the only book I buy from the 616.

As for ASM...I'll read it when it all starts (probably own't buy it, though), but if they kill off MJ, I won't even do that. Besides...Ron Garney's artwork hurts my eyes.

jesus, these delays r really messin things up man, both FNSM and Sensational come out before the war's even over. I guess the writer's have to be careful not to reveal anything before ASM comes out. Hopefully Sensational won't spoil anything before ASM comes out. Great timing Marvel...yea right.

It reminds me of their little "Thunderbolts Preview Mishap" that gave away the unmasking. Marvel hasn't been very good about keeping secrets, have they?

Not to complain too much....

But, isn't it overly annoying to have to read a story put out,.. out of order??

That's ok..we'll try to piece this back to black together later when it comes out in a tpb, they'll say.

This is suppose to be the "NEW BIG EVENT"...

So...yes, we get...the Black Costume....

WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY!!

Oh boy!! I am not sure if this issue was written so (poorly) generically (not to give anything away) on PURPOSE or what...but COME ON.

Delays hurt (civil war-ahem!!) and now this new "event" is off, out of order, with no explanation also. Glad Joey Q. is fixing things. Looks better already! LOL

I wasn't overly impressed with the issue. It was a bit tedious and I kept hoping the next page was the last one so I could move on to the other comics I picked up this week. Hopefully the next couple of issues in this arc will be more entertaining.

I agree. FNSM #17 was nothing special at all. And these freakin' movie tie ins are ridiculous. Of course I'm referring to the
Sandman/Uncle Ben connection. I know it's supposed to be alternate universe Ben or something who Baker's dad killed :whatever: But it's still lame.

Yeah, the movie tie-in is a bit much. Of course, Marvel said they don't have the comics reflect the movies. I guess the fact that Spidey got organic shooters at the same time the first movie came out is purely coincidence along with the events you mentioned...

I wouldn't exactly call Back In Black an "event".

It's not like the story in each of the three titles are crossing over or anything. It's just a banner like the "Spider-man Unmasked" one they used during Civil War.

Just a cheap marketing ploy to make you buy every issue that has the same logo stamped on the covers. Whether they're related or not :whatever:

I'll just be picking up the ASM issues as usual. The black costume is cool. But it's not that cool.

he actually got organics a couple months after the 2nd movie came out, during Avengers Dissasembled, so that argument isnt really valid...or at least it isnt as valid as you would have it

Well, me, personally, I'll be going back and buying up the back issues featuring the Black Costume while this movie tie-in runs it's course.

And the Black Costume IS THAT COOL.....but NOTHING is cool enough to make me buy all of an event I don't really care for in the first place.

ASM #539 is only available at the end of March right? We have to wait so long to know why Pete is back in black...

I think it's at the end of this month actually...

Yeah, 538 is at the end of this month. It is not Back In Black yet though, but it might shed some light on why Spidey is well, back in black.

This article seems to indicate Spidey has some darker personality when he returns to his black costume. But he seems the same to me in FNSM

Hes the same in the New Avengers too... all quippy and full of hilarity. I'm less worried now though, there is no way Spidey would be anything other than dark or brooding if MJ or Aunt May died. It would be so terribly out of character and stupid to have him joking during battle right after MJ or Aunt May died that Marvel would be making themselves look so stupid to have Spidey doing what he's done in the New Avengers and FNSM had either just died.

Hmmm... I actually enjoyed it very much.

Despite the 'Back in Black' and Uncle Ben/ sandman movie tie-in ploy, the comic for me finally felt like an old school era Spidey comic! He even mentions his typical Parker luck!

Spider-Man is supposed to be the everyman hero because Peter goes through the same things in life that we all do - that to me, includes growing up and getting married. If they take that away, and make it the reason for being back in black (whether it be due to MJ's death, a divorce, or May's death actually tearing Peter away from MJ permanently) then I'm afraid I'm done with Spidey. Which is sad, because until they tried breaking up Peter and MJ the first time through her "death", Spidey comics were my number one buys ad the ones I read threads about the most. For the last few years though, I feel like I've been buying them just for the sake of supporting the character and hoping their next revamp will be the one finally done right.

Actually the quips in New Avengers didn't seem Spidey-light, they seemed a bit more heavier an' forced than usual. Although that coulda just been Bendis' ****ty writin' an' me givin' him too much credit.

Dont forget about the Fallen Son: Spider-man issue. That takes place after Civil War and before the new New Avengers and Back In Black issues.

And judging by it's (awesome) cover, Spidey's definitely got something to cry about.

How long do you think Spidey will stay in black?

As long as they can milk it. I think the X-Men had the movie-style logo fer about a year, an' the costumes fer about 4, so ya never know.

The latest Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man wasn't too bad. Nice interaction with Flash and Peter. And also it looks like David is DEFINITELY following up on the alternate Uncle Ben storyline, so that should be interesting in the coming issues. However, I'm sure most fans will just roll their eyes and cry about how "Uncle Ben is back". Oy.

I could honestly care less about whether his costume is red and blue or black. It's an obvious ploy to tie in the comics with the movie. Considering there are about three months until the movie comes out I'm expecting to see Eddie Brock take back his symbiote anytime now.

Well, it looks lke May an Mary Jane are alive still, at least according to FNSM causses he mentioned them as if they were both still alive, so the Black costume isn't likely from one of them dieing.

Let's see if the upcoming SSM will drop any hints on the costume change!
