Comics Back In Black Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

ok now I imagine a new Spider-Man reader coming right now here: "Wow so maybe Spidey put his black suit on because he lost his driving license....awesome!...wicked cool !"

And about his black suit, do you hope he'll use it sometimes in the future, or just put it in the closed and never use it again ?

There will be another "back in black" in 10 years. Probably less. Marvel never lets a good idea die until it's been beaten into the ground. Just ask Dark Phoenix.

He could always go with the silvery "steel spider" look.

Or wear the black top and red/blue pants...
Or the red/blue top with black pants.

Would it be bammer? Yeah, but everyone would be happy.

Or, or he could wear the red and blacks.

Jim Shooter is returning to comics at the same time as the Black Costume he spawned... coincidence or conspiracy?

Looks like Cigarette Smoking Man and Horned Rimmed Glasses need to conference...

It's not that bad....

But at first when BIB was first announced, I thought Peter was going into the movie black suit!

What's so bad about it? It'd really just be a black version of the suit he wears now but with white or silver webs. It's like going black-suit but not going Venom-symbiote at the same time. In agreement with SpideyZERO, I thought he'd use the movie black suit as well; especially considering how traumatized/upset Mary Jane ended up being towards Venom.

What happens in the Spectacular issue of Back in Black where he lets JJJ kick his ass?

And the issue after the fight with kingpin featured a picture with what looked like a dead aunt may. What was up with that?

Nothing. Oh, well, he rehires Robbie. That's about it.

They covered her comatose body and stole and ambulance to make it look like they were moving a dead patient. So that they could move her to a new hospital and start the same drama all over again.

So, yeah. Nothing.

Sorry to drag up a thread that was mercifully descending straight for page two, and likewise forgive my ignorance for this having been covered elsewhere (perhaps in this very thread) - but let's talk continuity, turkeys. How does this arc fit in with the other non-AMAZING but BACK IN BLACK-branded titles (SENSATIONAL, FRIENDLY). JMS seemed to implement his regular personality disorder by opening and closing the saga in his own arc with little or no leeway for the other books/writers saddled with riding shotgun.

And on that note, didn't an early BIB-branded issue of FRIENDLY have Spidey saying that Mary Jane kicked him out? How did that fit in with the what-now?

The Spidey editorial is not what it once was.
In recent years they could no longer be bothered to cross reference the events of the various Spider-titles against each other in panel for the sake of maintaining the notion of all Spidey's adventures transpiring within the same world.

Essentially, it has been three different 'flavors' of Spidey comics w/ each book having no bearing on the other two. Aside from the implementation of lame new powers. The BIB tagged Sensational/FNSM issues were just a marketing ploy to con readers of ASM into buying the other two books, in which their storylines had no bearing on the events of ASM.

Thanks Dangerous. D'ya think it could be possible that no one bothered to tell Peter David why Spidey was really back in black? After all, PD tends to stick close to continuity but his black-costumed Spider-Man was A) almost jolly and B) as said previously, he insinuated to Reed that a domestic spat with MJ (to paraphrase) being responsible for his current black & white predicament of costume and mind. PD has played ball with the most gimpy developments of others (stingers, anyone) and this just doesn't jibe with the main being up with what was going on. Or I may be over-analizing here.

Asteroid-Man, more than nothing happened. Don't listen to USMC. It was a really good story that had solid character moments between JJJ, Peter Parker, and Robbie Robertson. If you're a fan of the old school supporting cast of Peter Parker than this story was more than just "nothing".

Peter David and Todd Nauck did a really good storyline here and it's unfortunate that they had to bow out.

Pick up the issue, give it a try.

He's wearing his Red & Blues again.

And no explanation was ever given as to why. Guess he's not mad anymore...

Also, there was pretty much zero mention of ANYTHING that happened in Back in Black. Peter found out Kingpin put the hit out on him....that's about it. It's so blatently obvious that BiB was just 6 months of filler that it's ridiculous.

Ugh...a sad state Spidey comics be in...

Yet people still buy it. :)

it's an addiction, even when it sucks.

Movie's over,i doubt there was a need to cash in on the suit anymore.Speaking of that, was there anything worth while about that event?Or was it just Spider-Man or Joe Q,rather going around and doing normal things..just with the black suit on?
