Back To The Future appreciation

Omg...the first movie is on A&E right now. They've cut nearly all references to the Libyan terrorists out of the movie, including the part where they killed Doc. Now it looks like Marty just jumped in the car and left him behind. :wow:

What the hell??

One of the reasons why I hate watching movies on TV. It's like tearign a page out of a book when they do stuff like that.

Never watch The Departed on tv. It sucks.

go watch in 2010 robocop on Tv. i watched it on a german tv. it was pathetic.

They do this to Fight Club too, it really sucks.

There have been some little edits, which I'm used to (although I'll never get used to "Holy geez!" replacing "Holy ****!"). But that was the first time I've ever seen the terrorist references cut from the movie. That's so stupid.

Holy...

They just edited out the word "terrorists" when Marty is writing the letter to Doc in the cafe.

This is so stupid! :whatever:

I put this on so I wouldn't have to watch 9/11 memorials today (I was in NY that day, I don't want to see it anymore). Doing that is not helping.

this happened after the 9/11 stuff TNT/TBS who were the rights holders of the first film at the time (USA/SyFy own the rights to the sequels) edited out all the terrorist bits but what I do NOT understand is they changed the phone number of Jennifer. they filmed a new insert of the blue flyer with a DIFFERENT number on it for the closeup instead of the original?

zxjihf.jpg

here is a cap off of the DVD, I do not have access to the 'altered' insert shot of the different number on the flyer tho :(.

EDIT: while I could not find a shot of the 'new' flyer I found out WHY it was changed. in the original insert of it the number was 555-4823 but in the new insert shot it says 555-0123. the reason was cause of this article.

And the numbers still work in movies and television shows, although when real-life assignments began nine years ago, only 100 numbers, from 555-0100 to 555-0199, were reserved for fiction. Recent films do not always heed the limits, but does it really matter if the cellphone number for Vin Diesel's character in the 2001 film ''The Fast and the Furious'' (555-6439) is actually assigned to Katrina Contee of Maryland? Only one of them, the movie character, can afford to put it into service.

so now you know ;)

That's like when they changed the line about dressing up as terrorist for Halloween in the anniversary version of ET into dressing up as a hippie instead. I didn't mind it, because I thought the hippie line was a little funnier.

But this is just annoying. All those edits do is remind me what day it is. :cmad:

And changing the phone number makes no sense either.

it should now, that I edited my post. I thought it did not make sense either, but I guess in the time that part 1 came out till now the 555-4823 became a real number just like the one that Vin Diesel used in Fast and Furious ;).

I've always found it funny that movies have to use 555 numbers(and apparently some 555s are real) because idiots see the number on a movie, and try to call it, like they're going to talk to the actual character of the movie. -"Ummm, yes, is Jennifer there?" :funny:

But yeah, I'm watching it on A&E right now, too. I never owned the DVD's, but I can't wait for Oct, when the Blu-Ray comes out. I'll be picking it up day one.

Also, my friends and I are all dressing as BTTF characters for Halloween this year. I'm dressing as Doc. I already got a wig, white coveralls, and tool belt.:yay:

9/11 was a horrible day of course, but we don't need to be sanitized by unecessary stuff that has nothing to do with 9/11. Now removing the Spider-Man Twin Towers teaser, I can see, but editing out stuff in this? It actually makes us think of it and it makes us sad. I mean what the hell? It's not the movie's fault anyway. Came out in 1985. It's just telling its own story. It is hard to not think of the current terrorists when any form of terrorists are mentioned in movies or wherever else today, but still, it doesn't mean we need to be protected from it.

Well, the thing that is stupid about all of it, is that they take it out of a movie taht came out in the 80's, but the news and History channel can run back-to-back coverage of what happened on 9/11, and yes, even talking about the terrorists.

It just doesn't make much sense.

Haha, they took out the shooting scene when he was playing Wild Gunman.:wow::funny:

Exactly. I was in NY on 9/11. I saw some horrible crap that day. Not once since then have I ever had a problem with any terrorist reference in that movie. I've never even associated it with that day.

I just mentioned it to my dad - his office windows actually rattled as the first plane flew towards the WTC that day, and he thought it was ridiculous. He said he will make up his own mind if "goofy terrorist bit players" offend him, he doesn't need a network to do it for him.

The Spiderman teaser made sense. That teaser had just been released within weeks of 9/11, and it was for a movie that was not yet released. But we need to go through movies from 80s and delete references to things that aren't remotely close to things happening now? That's so stupid.

I have a confession to make.

I've never seen Back to the Future or any of its sequels.

Lately I've been feeling like I need to rectify this. Just thought I'd share.

Yup. It's just not gonna do much good. In fact, I think it's alot worse. Not only does it remind us, it's so uneccessary, it becomes painfully obvious and it just sucks to have to sit through it. Because the film had nothing to do with it. I mean terrorists have always been a problem of course, but we don't need to be reminded of what goes on in the outside world. Alot of movies are escapism in many and literal ways, this film is a great example of escapist film.

just kidding :hehe:, I HIGHLY suggest you pick up the DVDs that are out now or wait for the blu rays next month ;).

Alright, now I'm confused. They edited out the Wild Gunmen shooting scene, but left the drive-by on Stricklands house in?

There was on article on cracked.com the other day about movies that didn't realize they let villains win. In Back to the Future, apparently, they forgot all about the LYBIAN TERRORISTS LOOSE IN CALIFORNIA WITH WEAPONS GRADE PLUTONIUM. I Guess TBS sought to rectify that entire plothole.

I've got a question about BTTF2 that I'm not sure about. When Biff steals the Delorean, he comes back all beat up, with his cane broken and everything. So my question, is what happened to him? I can't seem to remember them addressing that, but I may have forgotten that part.

he is not 'beaten up' but he breaks his cane off getting out of the car. but you see in a deleted scene that he vanishes from existence because his 'wife' Lorraine shot him sometime between 1985 and 2015 so he no longer exists in 2015 ;).

In the novelization, the terrorists were arrested after they crashed into the Fotomat booth at the end of the movie. Marty and Doc left just as the cops arrived in the mall parking lot.

He seems to be beaten up. He's moaning, sweaty, and he keeps holding his stomach, and then he falls over on some trash cans.

But I didn't know about the deleted scene.

Ok, I found that deleted scene you're talking about. I guess it was because he got shot in the stomach, which is why he looks that way. He's holding it right before he disappears here.

Another question: How did you know Lorraine shot him? Was it on a commentary of the DVD?

Did any of you guys watch the old cartoon? I kinda forgot about it, and when looking at deleted scenes, I found old episodes. Hehe, I love the animation for it.:yay:
