Bad Boys III

Just got out, horrible weather notwithstanding. It was a very well done follow up, the humor was there, the violence was there, and I liked how they kinda did a meta reference to how much carnage they cause in their daily adventures. More than a few shockers and twists also, a couple I kinda guessed halfway in.

While I did miss the Bayhem the surprising amount of heart and personal/emotional stakes in this are enough reasons alone as to why this is not only better than the second film, but arguably and possibly the best film in this franchise. I'll need to see it a few more times to really decide, but as of right now it's definitely up there with the first movie IMO. Some of the emotional stuff in here actually hit kind of hard.

And even though it's not Bay crazy, the action was pretty good too imo. At times it felt like a mix of 1's more down to earth stunts with a little bit of 2's nuttiness here and there. I was expecting to like this movie as a fan of the other 2 but i wasn't expecting them to nail it as much as i think they did.

Yeah I agree with that as well. The action in this might not have been on par with any of the epic, crazy action of 2, but it was still really well done, especially the last two set pieces wonky CGI aside. I thought the gun fights and the carnage overall was at times on par with John Wick films which is something I definitely didn't expect going in.

I enjoyed it more than the second one.

I didn't care for all the forced franchise and sequel bait nonsense. Bad Boys was never that big of a franchise to begin with. They waited 17 years to make the third movie, and the second movie wasn't even that big of a hit.

Also, no use of Sydney Burnett at all despite the fact that she's starring in spinoff TV series.

Some rather nebulous timeline stuff. Marcus said he's been married 25-26 years. Umm...that's impossible. In 2003, his daughter was in her teens and dating that Reggie guy already.

So basically you guys are saying the movie is much better than the trailers make it look. Because the trailers paint a very by the numbers buddy cop movie. Very encouraging.

Why does how many years of them being married and the age of their daughter make a difference? A lot of people have kids before they eventually tie the knot.

Went to a packed cinema last night with a few friends and had a blast. A competently made film with a few tugs on the heartstrings along the way. Nice to see Will back on form considering his last few have been quite average. Martin Lawrence back on the silver screen was a joy to watch aswell. His comedic timing had the cinema pissing themselves. Loved the villians but will keep it tight lipped as there important to the plot. Amo were a descent addition too. I think it beats the 2nd one and sits not too far from the first . Which brings me to the guys in the director chair. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah . They had alot of pressure to not make this into the 3rd movie fail curse. For there first venture into a hollywood blockbuster coming from TV series and shorts. This is a great foundation for them and i have to salute because they pulled it off imo. Hope to see more films from them in the future.

8/10

Damn this movie really cleaned up at the BO, and I could not be happier about it. It's a really entertaining and funny film and deserves to make all the money. Bring on that fourth film.

They were already clearly married with kids for a number of years in 1995. I stand by my statement.

Again, how were they “clearly married” for a number of years and not simply clearly together for a number of years. They could’ve married the year before for all we know. Not that big leap of logic.

Ignore him. It's just really dumb nitpicking. Like really? Who cares

Yeah, not really stuff I care about when watching a movie. Movie years vs the years the movies were released... Who cares.

HOWEVER...I've always wondered how Marcus can afford such a nice house on a detective salary haha. Guess his wife must be rich or at least making big bucks

So I saw this at an early screening on Thursday.

As I initially said, I really liked it. Smith and Lawrence were great. Movie made me realize how much I missed Martin Lawrence. He was really good at playing an aged version of his 1995/2003 character. Will Smith was good. I'm glad he's finally been in a movie I liked. I haven't liked one of his movies since 09.
The cinematography was really good. Especially in the final fight scene. Some really creative shots.
The humor was on point. I was dying laughing at a few scenes.
Thought the villains might've been the best of the series
Loved the call backs and cameos.

However I think there were a few lacking things.

-None of the action scenes are particularly memorable. Nothing like the KKK raid, highway chase, or Haitian trap house scene in II. Nothing as memorable as the hangar shootout or the street chase scene in I. Not that the action scenes in this were bad. They just weren't that good or memorable

-Going on with that, I miss the Bayhem. Bay just brought that flavor to the series that was missing in this.

-Rita's character should've been Gabrielle "Sid" Union. Bringing in this random character who has a past with Mike didn't resonate at all. She wasn't a bad actress or anything, but Union is funnier and has more charisma that whoever Rita's actress was. I don't know if they didn't want to spend money on Union and got Rita's actress who I'm sure was cheaper, but it was the wrong move

-I hate that they
killed the captain, Joe Pantoliano. I just hate that trope in general. Bringing back characters just to kill them off as some mediocre attempt at adding drama. Especially when by the end of the movie the recently killed character is forgotten about

-AMMO was kinda a waste. The whole young vs old thing wasn't handled that well. Vanessa Hudgens was like really wasted. At least Ludwig had some funny comedy moments and the Asian dude had some comedy moments and some antagonism with Mike Lowry. Hudgens looks good, but they didn't even use her sex appeal that much. She didn't have anything.

-I know Marcus is supposed to be the "old" one, but I wish Marcus had a little more to do action wise. Not saying he had to be Will Smith level, but there's a scene where he tries to grab someone on a motorcycle and he's kicked off and it looks so pathetic. And again I get that he's older, but he should've gotten a little something something.

-The twist:
I'm not mad at it. But I HATED the Suicide Squad esque mid credit scene. Dude he killed like 5 people including a cop and other officers of the law. I know he was manipulated, but that's just corny. He wasn't even that cool of a character that I want to see him again

But I really liked it. I'll be picking up the Blu Ray

I kinda wish they'd end with this one
1) The fools had to call this one Bad Boys For Life instead of just Bad Boys III, so now they can't call the fourth movie BAD BOYS 4 LIFE. Cowards.
2) I think the story is just wrapped up well. No need for a 4th

Loved it from start to finish. Im always a bit weary when franchises get revived after so long , you worry if they are going to be able to capture the same feel that the previous ones had (especially with new directors) but huge credit to everyone involved I have literally 0 complaints.

It manages to pick up exactly where it left off and at the same time inject so many new elements without ever making the movie feel overcrowded or bloated.

Glad to hear that this directing team is doing Beverly Hills Cop 4, and I hope they bring them back for Bad Boys 4. I thought they did a damn fine job incorporating a fresh feel to it while making it still be Bad Boys (the references to certain Bay shots and the respect to Mark Mancina's original Bad Boys score were great touches).

I agree with you 100%

This was unexpectedly GOOD.

Much better than the 2nd and good enough that I would actually go watch again!

Oh and I cannot stop singing BAD BOYS BAD BOYS, WHATCHA GONNA DO?!?! :applaud

Saw it last night as well. Im a fan of the last 2 movies.

This one is a pretty decent buddy cop action comedy.

Its not a 10/10 but its enjoyable and fun. The duo still got it.

I must say i didnt buy that twist storyline though. Not one bit. But it didnt bother me much.

That story line was a textbook "we came with up some new stuff we didnt know actually have happened in the distant past within this movie universe and we never hinted at it in the previous movies before because its actually made up (and we didnt really took the time to make it smoother) so we can have a story with twists , enjoy."

Still a 7,5/10 movie for me. Im in for the 4th one.
