Bad Robot/Jonathan Nolan Bringing "Westworld" to HBO - Part 1

Do we suppose it was Ford's personality Bernard was building into the red ball?

Could william's entire arc and what his plan was to replace the people in his lives with robots that he could control?

e.g. he set up his wife to die, and had ideas for a robot version of her, but then the daughter found the wife first.

Almost the extreme opposite of chaos is what William wanted.

Also, does everyone think that it's
Elsie
that is the other robot that Bernard created?

Elsie is so dull I don't think even this would make her less dull...

I don't think so....we see a man running upstairs

I'm thinking
William's daughter was the other mind that Ford made. Its exactly the sort of thing Ford would do to **** with William.

The episode reveals that Ford made another mind, then that Ford Host talks to William about the game, and then William crosses paths again with his daughter. I think it's all part of Ford's game.

I thought she had proved herself human in the India area, no?

Most definitely not [BLACKOUT]William's daughter.[/BLACKOUT]

More likely options would be William himself or Ford himself.

She only proved the guy was human. And with the park failing and Ford's influence over everything we cant be sure that any new characters are actually human even if they "prove" it.

I mean, it would be kind of stupid if they had a whole reconciliation while surviving in the park or at least coming to an understanding only for the show to be all like “lol nope, robot.”

Well, that sounds pretty plausible, actually.

No and no.

William wouldn't set his wife to die. She killed herself because his obsession with the park and Dolores.

Also, Elsie is acting way too human to be considered an android.

So did Bernard at one point. If Elsie was programmed to act Human, how would anyone know?

For what it's worth, I think she is Human, I'm just saying that we can't rule anything out at this point. I suspect the second AI chip is/was for Ford; he knew he was dying, and there was talk of immortality in the previous season. I'd think if anyone wanted to live forever, it would have been Ford, though I suspect his essence will be transferred into a younger body; certainly an actor cheaper for the show.

That was a brilliant episode. Really curious to see where they go with all this.

Also, Ed Harris owns the screen any time he's on it. And kudos also to Peter Mullan who played James Delos, the interactions between him and Harris were superb, as was his switch from 100% functioning to tics, shakes, incoherent speech and so on.

Wonderful episode, definitely a standout for the series. Kudos to Lisa Joy for a strong directorial debut.

This got very sci-fi/horror towards the end and I freakin' loved it. It also had so much going for it that I didn't even realize till it was over that it didn't touch Delores or Maeve's storylines at all.

Bill/Man in Black is proving to be such a complex character. It's such a perfect role for Ed Harris, and I'm liking what Jimmi Simpson is doing with the transitional version of William too.

This was my thinking as well. I believe it's Ford.

What I loved about the latest episode was that they gave Harris opportunity to be funny again:

There is little humor in the series but when there is it works so well

Bill: You think death favors you, that it brought you back. But death's decisions are final. It's only the living are inconstant, they waver, don't know who they are or what they want. Death is always true. You haven't known a true thing in all your life. You think you know death, but you don't.

Craddock: Is that so?

Bill: You didn't recognize him sittin' across from you this whole time.

SO BADASS.

yeah... that was a damn good exchange

This is such a clever show that way. :)

Another amazing episode.

Shannon Woodward. My God she is stunning.

Loved this exchange. Up there with Bill's sitdown with Ford in Season 1.

Agreed,I was loving it and then that last line delivery was awesome.

Overall my favourite episode of this season thus far.

I re-read some of Ford's dialogue from S1, bearing in mind that there's some theories that he has possibly downloaded his mind to a host also - and it's interesting.

I recall this quote, which I thought at the time may be hinting at something greater -

"An old friend once told me something that gave me great comfort. Something he had read. He said that Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin never died. They simply became music.".

Those great icons never died because they lived on through their creations. What if Ford meant this quite literally?

Some of his previous dialogue which seemed less important at the time also takes on some new meaning after watching ep4. I don't think all of this is explicitly referencing that future episode in advance, but it certainly gives you a greater understanding of the workings of Ford's mind knowing that he was likely aware of the ability to place a human mind into a host body.

"Your mind is a walled garden. Even death cannot touch the flowers blooming there."
"We’ve managed to slip evolution’s leash now, haven’t we? We can cure any disease, keep even the weakest of us alive, and one fine day perhaps we shall even resurrect the dead, call forth Lazarus from his cave. Do you know what that means? It means that we’re done, that this is as good as we’re going to get."

And this clinker, which parallels nicely with the Devil/God speech that James Delos gave in ep4.

"You can’t play God without being acquainted with the devil."

The writing on this show is great, it's rich and detailed and you can find so many interpretations.

Absolutely. It was similar with Hannibal, everything said is so nuanced, you have to really pay attention. :)
