Well it's official Helmut Zemo is actually a Baron. I suspect he's playing a long-term con with Bucky and Sam. To what end is uncertain but I definitely like how he's developing in this series.

Loved Zemo in this episode. Bruhl just steals every scene he’s in brilliantly. I totally saw the Hannibal Lector-style scene coming but I didn’t expect them to break him out of prison. It was fun watching them work together.

Quick question about Zemo’s mask. There seems to be some significance to it for him, did they show him wearing it at any point in Civil War? Just trying to figure out if it has some other meaning besides it being the mask he wears in the comics.

Okay thanks. Yeah I didn’t think he wore it so I’m glad I didn’t miss anything about it. It’s kind of interesting that he seems to relish wearing it since it makes him look like a supervillain (something that he hates, though I suppose that’s just because of the powers they possess; maybe he digs the look, haha).

Since now we know he's royalty, maybe the mask is somehow connected to the Sokovian royal family?

Perhaps the mask is part of the traditional garb of Sokovian princes?

My own theory is that they’ll suggest that it was something he wore in his military days.

But it’s also possible now that they’re more openly leaning into his comics background, that maybe it was his father’s mask.

I see that Zemo is going more of the Loki route: aligning with the good guys if it benefits him. I don't have a problem with that as long as dances again.

If anything Zemo is probably even less trustworthy because I think Loki does love Thor on some level at least. Zemo has no ****s to give about Sam and Bucky.

Yeah, Sam and Bucky are a means to an end for him. But I actually hope he doesn’t go full on villain in this series. I think it would be more interesting if he stays allied with the heroes until the end but periodically messes things up for them like he did in this episode.

I could see them working together until the climax when they find Karli, where Sam and Bucky might have some sympathy for her intentions or at least want to bring her in alive, whereas Zemo intends to just straight up shoot her.

Yeah that would make sense. I wonder though about the physics of some of this ****, lol. Like, a Winter Soldier can jump out of an AIRPLANE and not get hurt, but a gunshot can kill them? That... doesn’t make sense lol. I guess you just gotta kinda roll with it though.

Right. And in TWS in the climactic fight on the helicarrier, Bucky shot Steve a bunch of times.

Granted

1) Steve did almost die

2) People have survived multiple gunshot wounds

3) You could argue Steve was the OG super-soldier and more powerful with better serum (?)

I feel like their levels of enhancement do fluctuate though. Like I was a little surprised in Civil War when Bucky just jumped straight off a bridge and down into a traffic tunnel and was running faster than the cars. It was like "oh, I....guess he can do that". And then now I was surprised again when he just straight-up jumped out of the airplane.
