Barrel 'o' CyberMonkeys

You depress me.
I appreciate the tutorial greatly; but as it turns out...your way of coloring is pretty much the same exact way I color.
You're just a lot better than I am. Emphasis on "a lot". A lot. A lot. A lot.

Heres my entry to this months contest.

its my first time drawing ye olde flash...actually its my first time drawing any flash...can anyone tell me how his helmet stays on when he runs? He doesn't seems to have a chin strap of anything..

nobody ever really talked about it. Not to mention the big wings that should be catching drag and helping to pull it off;)

Wow, that's awesome. It just stays on his head 'cause of inertia I guess. Kinda like water in a pail.

I love it. As always. This is totally kickass. The pose of him seemed a little off when I first looked at it, but now I don't really see it much. Amazing piece.

Then it's time to start colouring. I knew that the lava cracks were going to be the main source of my light- so i decided to start there.

Believe me- all that stuff plus choosing colours is a nightmare. Im a long way off from where i wanna be. Its just something that is hard to get your head around. The more you do it though the easier it kinda gets- so just doing it lots is important.

Heres a quick up date- havent had much time recently- but I thought I'd do a little bit more

i notice... like in your beebop rocksteady pic, that you also change the color of your ink lines. then on your recent entry for the march contest you also have some robots that inks are not in focus. can you explain that trick for me?

its all done with pixey dust and love.

yeah, I do change my line colour- nice spotting :) Its a small thing- but I really like the effect.

Its pretty simple- but sometime its really fiddly to do.

apple1vq5.jpg

-use the lasso tool on your lines to select the area you want as a certain colour- in this case the red of the apple.

-Press Ctrl+U or Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation

apple2ha3.jpg

-Tick the box that says colourize and move the sliders around to what ever you feel is good.

As for the robots- each robot was on a seperate layer, so I just tweaked the layers opacity of the robots in the back to try and make it look like there was some depth.

aweseom.. i really appreciate this as i will be immersing myself in photoshop very soon and this is a great starting point.

you really are amazing, where do you learn this stuff?

i try to teach myself.. but its not going so well so far haha

Bloody Norra your stuff is great.

Kind of reminds me of Nick Bradshaw's stuff, too.

this IMAGE IS INAPPROPRIATE AND CONSIDERED OFFENSIVE (as all of my work is) DONT CLICK ON THIS LINK IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED.

cyber, can you tell me if my inking style can use your coloring style... on this particular image you can see my use of inking and watercolors. that is my art style. So can i still use your methods to a point? would you be able to? not asking you too... i know you got enough going on... just wondering if it works.

okay judging from the fact that no one is ever here anymore, and they only sign on once and a blue moon. i will try your method on that image myself while waiting your response. And i am mentally preparing for embarassment.

i forgot... i had one more question. Do you never use the selective brush method of going from Multiply brushes or layers, to overlay? and if so... when is the best. and when adding shading that is a different tone. IE this months entry you have a guy with a red shirt (flash) but the shadows are not different hues of red, they are def. blue. Where those set with a specialty layer/ brush? or the same opac. rules 10-20%? and do you just know enough color theory to make them match? or is there another "untold" trick i dont know.

Nobody replied within four minutes so you assume no one ever comes here?

no... no... no... sorry, did not mean for it to sound like that. When i first join the site, like 3 years ago. When ever i would log on to the FAN ART portion of the website there would be like 40 viewing. Now there is like 6 or 15 at any given time.

sorry. did not mean to sound like "no one is coming to this thread."

DorkyFresh- thanks man- im a big fan of your stuff, infact, your one of the artists that made me want to sign up here.

Wushuboy- im glad you got something from it- i'll look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

jmao- I'm mostly self taught- i did art at school, but i've only been using a computer for the last few years. Posting art on sites and just paying attention to art you really like helps a lot.

Flexo- Nick Bradshaw? *googles* heh- thanks man:) I do love me some evil dead

pt_photo_inc- Great picture man- I really like it :) There no reason that you couldnt colour it - but i think its a strong enough piece without it.
If I get time I would mind slapping something on it though :) I tend to shy away from shading when im inking- it lets me change lighting sources and stuff- but i like what you have done.

As for the multiply etc brushes- i dont really bother. Ive seen some good results from messing with that kind of stuff, but I like to just use normal settings.
Using different colour bases is something that ive only started doing recently- Ill let a pro tell you what exactly is happening

thank you for the link. I have heard of that way of coloring as well but it just hasnt worked out for me the same yet. And it would be an honor to see your skills put to my pic

Dude I just read your tutorial and wow!

I really learnt a lot.

thanks
