Transformers Based on Previous movies.....

I guess thats where his versions failed, People were expecting the movies to be dark in the same style of the first two Tim Burton directed Batman movies.

in fact he was told to make them in the same vein as the tv show after parental groups complained about the violence in Batman Returns

This is why Christopher Nolan's take on the Batman franchise was sucessful, He made it as dark as possible, Anyways, As we get back on topic regarding Michael Bay. I havent seen his previous movie The Island, But since that film was released from Dreamworks, Did that film seem any different from any his previous work, Prior to The Island? The majority of his movies were produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and from Disney in terms of style and tone that is. The Island was Michael Bay's 2nd scifi film, His first being Armageddon. With Transformers being his 3rd scifi movie, Has his style changed since working with Dreamworks?

The Island wasn't half-bad. Definately an improvement on his other stuff.
The Island tries to be in the same "sci fi" mold as GATTACA and Minority Report and stuff like that.
It's not great (i.e. it's not in my collection- while GATTACA is)... but it is good.

I still watch Gattaca every now and then...I think its a great flick. I think he was trying to do his version of a Logan's Run and found it pretty good as his first movie away from Bruckhiemer. He will never have the storytelling ability of Zemeckis though. And I don't see how you could've hated Castaway...that movie is Tom Hanks at his most method!

I'm curious as to how the mood of the movie will be like, Do you think it will have a contemporary feel?

Funny enough...I thought Gattaca was OK for a one-time...but nothing great. While the Island (and Armageddon) I absolutely loved...great character interaction and action.

I think I overstated it. I don't hate Castaway. I was just truly expecting to *feel* like I was on that island with him for the full 4(?) years.
When he fast-forwarded I was like "noooo.... what a cop-out!"

But, I did like the ending. And I understand the "story" he was trying to tell. Zemekis is a great story teller. And, Tom Hanks was extraordinary in that movie.

Gattaca has all levels of metaphors. It is sci-fi at its absolute best.
I also think Spielberg/Kubrick's AI is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time.
I like my sci-fi... I dunno... deep.

The Island was pretty good. Armageddon, however, is not a sci-fi movie. It's a cartoon... and a bad one at that.

Armageddon is pretty much scifi, Its about a scenerio thats prety much impossible to happen.

I'm talking about the whole idea of sending astronauts into an astroid and blow it up from there?

I can understand that. That's not even the worst part. It's sending oil rig folks to do the job.... as if Astronauts, who are not just pilots but physists and engineers and who often have to do all sorts of manual labor in space are too dumb to do it.... these people are possibly some of the smartest (and physically fit) people in the country.

This is an interesting article on Bay's cartoons. http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/showarticle.php3?ID=7

I understand completely. I was hoping the entire movie would be almost a day to day degradation of his humanity. I felt exactly the same when they went from "healthy" Tom Hanks to "machinist" Tom Hanks without showing the progress.

You know what else I think, This movie will be a surround sound fan's dream, Think about it, Your powered subwoofer are gonna get a lot of work pumping out sounds of metal smashing into each other, Metal feet stomping on the ground and such.

Yeah Bay's films are good but they feel DRY and they don't have the magic like other filmmakers films do.

Robert Zemeckis has the magic but he bailed out for some reason.

..he bailed because the script sucked!

According to Latinoreview.com the script was pretty damn good. I think I trust their opinion more than yours.

actually he was told to make it lighter than Burton's movies

I think he misinterpreted "lighter" as having everything glowy and neon - rather than the emotional tone...

Which is weird because Schumacher has made some pretty emotionally dark films. He seemed, beforehand, perfect for Batman... on paper. To bad it didn't pan out that way.

I have a feeling the same will be true with Bay and Transformers. He seems perfect (because of his visual talent). But, in the end, we might leave the theater feeling empty... and dumber.

..i agree with you there. I think the result of the last 2 Batman films was due to what the studio wanted. Let's hope Dream works and Speilburg keep things on point.

Here's my view on Bay. None of his movies, with the exception of The Rock haven't been all that great, but at the same time none of them, with the exception of Pearl Harbor have been that bad. They've all pretty much been okay. Films you didn't regret seeing, or feel robbed for watching, but at the same time films that once you've seen them you pretty much forget about them.

Very true - he kinda walks in the film directing twilight zone...

If their biggest gripe is Megs
being a jet
then I might be able to live with that. It is pretty upsetting that Megs
doesn't show up in a 111 page script until page 87.
The xbox and iPod things...meh, one can only pray they don't have them in the movie. If they are in there then one can only say, "Bay, WTF were you THINKING?"
