Batman: Arkham City - Part 10

Have to say: I am severely under-welmed after defeating the story mode. The game was great but WAY too short and not enough depth was given to a villain like Hugo Strange. There was not enough emphasize or consequence shown from him knowing Batman's identity...they really kinda dropped the ball on it. It was like "I know who you are, and if you try and stop me I'll tell everyone"...and then you go out and he sees you try and stop him for over 10 hours, and he doesn't tell anyone who you are? And we only confront him the one time? Really? After all the trailers showing Strange as the main villain, he kind of went out like a punk.

And as for [BLACKOUT]Ra's al Ghul[/BLACKOUT]....He's my favorite villain in the Batman universe. Dini writes him great. But here, they didn't really do him any great service. It was fairly obvious that he was behind it....and we don't even get a true fight with him in the end? That surprised me. And the fight we DO have with him, was weird to say the least. I never remembered him having any of those abilities in the comics....It was trying to copy the Scarecrow levels for the sake of it...when [BLACKOUT]Mad Hatter's[/BLACKOUT] level was good enough to fill that void. They should have done [BLACKOUT]Ra's[/BLACKOUT] a little better...

[BLACKOUT]Clayface[/BLACKOUT], WHILE AWESOME and a great surprise, was the final showdown? Really? C'mon?!

[BLACKOUT]Talia[/BLACKOUT] is left dead, [BLACKOUT]Joker[/BLACKOUT] is dead, and [BLACKOUT]Ra's[/BLACKOUT] dies without us even being able to fight him.... I felt that after all of this happened that there was still much story left to go...but it turns out only side missions are left... The side missions in this game are great...but I feel like this story needed just a little more...

Cons:

[BLACKOUT]Talia and the League of Assassins [/BLACKOUT] just really show up without much reasoning as to why....

[BLACKOUT]There's a Lazarus Pit[/BLACKOUT] right under Gotham? Really?

[BLACKOUT]Ra's al Ghul's[/BLACKOUT] voice actor was awful....didn't fit.

[BLACKOUT]Huge Strange[/BLACKOUT] was severely under developed and not made into any bit of the legitimate threat he should have been...

[BLACKOUT]Two-face[/BLACKOUT] was a colossal disappointment. We see him in the beginning for about 5 minutes and then he's barely heard from again, and never seen. After all of the trailers, I really figured we'd get SOMETHING more from him. Especially after [BLACKOUT]Mayor Sharp[/BLACKOUT] is brought onto the island....

The positives:

[BLACKOUT]Penguin[/BLACKOUT] was really awesome. Just truly sick, demented, and entertaining.
[BLACKOUT]Grundy[/BLACKOUT] was a welcomed addition to a Batman game.
[BLACKOUT]Catwoman[/BLACKOUT] was great, but again...not enough. They billed her as a much larger character... (I'm talking in the story, not her own episodes)
[BLACKOUT]Clayface[/BLACKOUT] was a great surprise when he appears. And his boss fight was fun
[BLACKOUT]Robin[/BLACKOUT] gets a great moment.
The voice acting (aside from [BLACKOUT]Ra's[/BLACKOUT]) and music was top notch.
[BLACKOUT]Bane [/BLACKOUT] as an ally.
The [BLACKOUT]Deadshot[/BLACKOUT] missions.
Combat...gliding, etc. all great.
Riddler's challenges are incredible as well.

Really my only major complaint is that while some characters....
-[BLACKOUT]Talia, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Joker, Penguin, Clayface, Bane, Mad Hatter[/BLACKOUT] were all great within the story and utilized very well, and given enough to display what they have....

Others like: [BLACKOUT]Catwoman, Two-face, Hugo Strange, and Ra's Al Ghul[/BLACKOUT] were all a little short changed... And when two of those are the games "main" villains...and two of those are Batman icons....well, it's not a good thing.

Hopefully as I play through side missions more will pop up and elevate my position....

As it stands: as GREAT as this game is...and make no mistake, it is great. I felt MORE immersed in Arkham Asylum.... Maybe it was because it had more of a straight forward narrative with clearer goals/objectives.... I don't know. Both are great games, but I might still like the original more...

I thought they did a fine job with Robin's play style. He's not as fast as Catwoman, but he's definitely quicker than Bats. And he's more likely to be in the air with his moves than Bats is.

I love his staff. That counter move where he bounces off the enemies' chest? :awesome:

Just wondering, there's been a lot of focus on gliding through Gotham and combat, did they keep the stealth stuff in the game. Are there still rooms where you try to take everyone out without being seen? It was such a focus when Rocksteady was promoting Arkham Asylum, but I don't remember seeing much of it in the promotion for City.

There are rooms like this... but I have to say, I enjoyed the level design in Arkham Asylum moreso in these cases. It was clearer, sharper and more crisp in its details...I realize Arkham City is much bigger so we lose some of that detail and clarity, etc... Also they just lent themselves to stalking and picking guys off one by one... In this, it was a lot of drop down, take a guy out, zip back up, then repeat until there's enough guys to attack with gadgets and you can disarm them....

From the walkthroughs I've seen, it's kind of a requirement if say, there are 10 goons in a room and 8 of them have guns. :funny:

Just got up to the part with Robin. I don't know how the rest of the story turns out and if he'll show up again, but I can totally see them doing something with him as part of a side story.

It probably depends on how you play then. I've seen guys pick off multi-goon rooms by going around and doing silent takedowns on everybody. The inverted takedown and ziplining is so much cooler-looking though. :funny:

I seriously love using my smoke bombs to start off a multi-goon brawl. Start up on a high point, throw down the smoke, drop down all dramatic like, and start crackin skulls. It's not as effective as it is cool looking though.

played for about 5 hours last nite. this game is real fun! i found myself getting distracted from the main story mode a lot either trying to find Riddler's trophies or Zsaz's phone missions.

some of those trophies are real hard to get. i am guessing that for a couple of them you need some sort of special gadget that you have to unlock as the game progresses.

The definitely upped the ante on the Riddler trophies. Thats a game in and of itself, just collecting those. I really like that you can tag the trophies in Detective mode and come back for em

Anyone on the part where you're taking sniper fire from twenty different positions?! I can't get past it.

And yeah, the story feels short for some reason.

I know all games have gone this way, but I'm sitting here trying to play an hour or two of the game on my lunch break, and it hast taken me 45 mins already to download all the **** I need to. I realize my internet connection sucks (room mates fault, he owns the house), but this is ********.

It wasn't until halfway through my third played of AA that I started using tactics like blowing up walls and distracting thugs with sonic baterangs. Before that, I would do the silent and inverted takedowns. And I actually think they've added a few more options to taking someone down in AC.

I really need HELP in one area of the game..
I defeated Ras and went back all the way to beginning of the tunnels to get out,Kroc made his cameo and the rest was blocked off,Batman said"I need to get back to"somewhere and so I went back to where the trains are..But nothing happens and I have no clue how to get out now!

Plz help,I'd appreciate it!!

Just came back the same way you went in. Get on top of the trains. Slide under the pipes. And defeat all the goons. Easy.

I got on top of the trains and I don't remember seeing any pips,I beat the goons before getting to Kroc and when I returned..Nobody was there!!

That was last night though,I'll check back in a bit..But so where exactly are the pipes by the top of the trains?

I think there is a broken wall somewhere and you go through that and then slide under the pipes. But if you beat the guys, there should be a device you have to hack and that opens the door and then you walk up the stairs.

Is Catwoman a free DLC or do you have to pay for it?

Is the stairs in the dead end section and a sign says"no entry"with a Wayne security hack?...I used it earlier when I first started the whole mission But nothing happened and now I can't hack it again,I still cant find the broken wall with pipes to slide in:(

am not reading thread...

Someone please answer...Im still playing the first game (OMG IT IS ****ING AWESOME)

I bought the Arkham City, but have not opened my game yet...Do i lose my pre-order if i dont use the codes soon?

ALSO,

Robin DLC or Joker DLC
Which was the better one based off user experience?
(As I said before, Gamestop informed me that the Joker DLC wont be available for purchase...so I went with that)

Well if you're by the stairs with the hack part, you should have already passed the pipes you have to slide under. They are right by a pair of those teeth you have to throw a batarang at.
