Batman: Arkham City

I think Origins has the best characterization and interplay of any of the three. It doesn't add a lot to what's already laid down (and plays a lot like AC), but it's a good title. The initial release was pretty buggy, but a lot of that looks to have been worked out. I held out over the same concerns and waited to pick it up at a discount a few months back for $20 (Season Pass for DLC included). Well worth it if you can snag a comparable deal.

Congrats on voicing enough profanity and having enough frustration built up to complete the Glide Challenges. :funny:
 
Hmmm ok that does not sound too bad. Main concern was that I read the combat timing was off and animating poorly. Will probably wait around for a deal on XBL, it's $40 right now so maybe they'll have it for $20 or so one of these weeks (or during the Christmas sale)

The gliding tutorial is very poorly explained. They tell you how to dive with the right trigger, and how to gain altitude after a dive by pulling back on the left stick, but never bother to explain that simply letting go of the right trigger causes Bats to level off on his own.

Once you figure THAT out (as I did when I tackled the 'glide 30 meters 5 meters above the water' challenge), the Joker tunnel becomes much more reasonable. It only took 3 or 4 tries on my final stab at it.

I think inserting one extra bullet point in the pop up hints would have saved people a great deal of aggravation.
 
Arkham Origins is an excellent game, and a ton of fun to play. It also has the best story and characterizations by far out of the three games.

The timing is a little different from AC and took me a while to get used to, but it's consistent. That, plus the damn buttons for quickfire Batarang and Detective Mode are reversed for some ungodly reason. Sometimes, you get a little lag in frame rate when you have multiple enemies in close quarters or when triggering the Batwing fast travel, but it's minor and fleeting.

The story/characterization is so good though. Even better of a deal if you get the DLC included, because Cold, Cold Heart is excellent.

WB Montreal improved on all characters but Bane was the best much as I like Hardy's Bane but this Bane was much better oh and Bane theme by Christopher Drake, feel like army march in some parts but scarier and it felt a I was listening to a Batman film soundtrack The voice actor they got was superb I think he's up there with Hardy's Bane voice

Going through New Game +, everything going fine right up until I hit the fight with Joker in the steel mill. Joker plus horde of goons PLUS the 2nd Abramovich PLUS a Titan thug PLUS the little trains running through. Goddamn this fight is hard. If I could get Abramovich out of the way early I think I'd have better luck but there are just too many henchmen around preventing me from doing so.

On the bright side it only took two playthroughs of City and four or five of Asylum but I have finally reached the point where I can really make the combat sing. I fell into the terribad habit of button mashing very early and it was EXTREMELY difficult unlearning that behaviour. But once you do learn to tackle fights at a more measured pace, and master your moves and all the quickfire gadgets... it's very satisfying. And it looks completely awesome.

A combat system similar to this would be a good fit for lightsaber combat in a Star Wars game, I think.
 
Whoever thought the taunts when you die were a good idea needs a couple swift kicks in the shinbone.
 
Man the one thing I use to do a lot in Arkham City was replay the story mode with the skin code activated. Do a nice quick speed run on easy mode, make a day out of it. Good times, really wish I could do the same in Origins.
 
They begin to grate when you've failed a segment over half a dozen times.

I finally got past the steel mill fight, man that was tough but feels good to have overcome it.

Yeah, that fight is tough. I remember one time thinking I had finally beat it, only to see Joker come running up behind and punch Batman in what looked like his ass, (which killed me) then scurried away. I was infuriated but found it hilarious at the same time.

This. Killer Croc's was downright scary.

Never played Origins. Lackluster set of villains, and I spoiled myself on the story. Looking forward to Arkham Knight, but unfortunately, I do not possess a Ps4. (Looks like I'll be watching lots of cutscenes on YouTube..)

The set of villains in Origins give some great moments and fights.

The fight against Deathstroke, for example, is my favorite in the whole series. It's someone who can fight on the same level as Batman. Firefly's is really interesting too for all the damage he causes to the battlefield and that presents a good amount of challenge. Not to mention that the story is the best of the three games.

You really should try it out whenever you can. You're missing something good.
 
Maybe sometime in the future I will check it out. Right now I got a long list of games ahead of it that I'm itching to play.
 
Another Arkham Insider and no info whether or not new game plus is replayable...

After having replayed Arkham Asylum I've started revisiting Arkham City yesterday with new game plus... Never played on new game plus before...

Dang, the absence of those counter indicators is something else, isn't it?!
Had to start some of the eary fights multiple times!
I'm guessing I'll be replaying the storymode for quite a while...

I posted about it in the Arkham Knight thread awhile back. Basically, there was a survey that was released to select WB Rewards members that asked multiple questions about a potential Arkham Asylum and City bundle, such as asking about the best name for the collection, what the cover art will be, etc. It doesn't outright say the collection is coming, but most people are taking it as unofficial confirmation that one is in the works.

Why they're choosing to release it after Arkham Knight is anyone's guess, though
 
I am replaying the challenge maps and I am reminded of how how Rocksteady perfectly nailed Catwoman's fighting style and movements. She feels and plays like how Catwoman should. Sexy, acrobatic and mean.

forgot what an amazing boss battle mr freeze's was

especially when u have to do nearly every takedown technique to defeat him on new game plus mode

agreed the absence of the indicator makes the fights alot more challenging
