Batman: Arkham Knight - Part 1

Now they need to come up with an explanation as to why it stays night for so long.
It's, basically, that the main events occur over one night. You can imagine it going from 7 p.m to 5 a.m if it helps you picture it.
That is, if we focus on the missions and waste no time fooling around. Which, of course, isn't something we do. There'll be plenty of fooling around.

It's not that they can't do it, it's that they don't want the player to run over civilians because Batman wouldn't do that. I don't remember Spider-man 2 having a jet powered car you could drive. Having the city evacuated due to threat of a city wide chemical attack is a pretty good reason if you ask me.

There are ways to prevent batman from running over civilians. Look at any other 3rd person shooter game around, if it's an NPC you're not supposed to kill sometimes they make where you can't even aim your gun at them.

For this game they could have made it where the batmobile automatically breaks any time it approaches a civilian head on. This is not too difficult a problem really.

Because the Batmobile stopping any time you get near a civilian sounds game breaking-ly bad. No thanks. Also there will very likely be hostages and such that you have to rescue so it's not like you won't get the saving people experience. Not to mention creating hundreds of civilians which you have no reason to interact with would be a pointless drain on resources of the studio and the consoles.

Not enough for me to pre-order quite yet, but I'll be getting the collector's edition (if there is one)

Do you know there are cars today that have warning sounds that go off when you approach a pedestrian too close? Do you not think the batmobile would not have a similar mechanism whereby it would auto break if it got too close to a civilian?

It sounds like you just don't want civilians in the game that's fine but don't act like they couldn't very easily have been implemented.

Also to bring it back to SM2 the game I would have loved it if they had various side mission where you have to rescue regular civilians throughout the city.

The way Gotham citizens are evacuated in this game and villains lose all over Gotham City reminds me of No Man's Land and I like it,Only big difference is that instead of a virus then a earthquake it's done by bombs via scarecrow

I forgot to leave this comment:
Another Arkham game, another single night event

LOL imagine if they made a game where if its nighttime youre bats but if its day youre bruce! Driving around in the Lamborghini n such

Great. now you've done it. my imagination just flew off the handle.

Exactly

"Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead."

Miranda Tate, Miranda Tate, Miranda Tate, Miranda Tate.

All of the villians coming together to finally eliminate their foe sounds like Quinns orchestration as an act of vengeance for Joker's death.

Arkham Knight being the son of the clown would be a new addition to the mythos as they stated in the video, this character will be.

The negative pregnancy tests don't explain the positive one.
Maybe, but those tests were from about a year ago storywise? that makes the son of the joker 3 months old at this point?

It COULD be Joker himself, but I doubt that too. Probably Hush or maybe Thomas Wayne Jr. Or just a new character.

Was it DC themselves who said there'd be gameplay today? or a fan faction?

I would like events taking place during different times but I don't mind the one night stuff either

I'm not saying it would be unrealistic for the batmobile to stop when in danger of running over someone, I'm saying I don't want to play a Batman game where the batmobile stops every minute because I drove too close to the sidewalk. And no, they probably couldn't have been easily implemented. Putting civilians in there means they have to model hundreds more characters and program sophisticated AI that reacts to Batman realistically, not to mention most open world game with large amounts of NPC's have typically suffered from frame rate problems or lack of detail. If the batmobile by itself is the size of a 360 game then I doubt it would be as simple as you say to also put hundreds of civilians in the game.

I'm not sure if you can even fix the one-night issue as long as the game is open world. In games like Skyrim and GTA (and even the Spider-Man games), you can get away with it by enabling a day/night cycle. Whether or not other protagonists solve the mission at night, it doesn't play a major influence in the story overall. Whereas with Batman, he is all about the night. Not that he hasn't done missions during the day, but it has a far more significant impact in terms of context.

They could always say that Gotham is just permanently nighttime because of smog clouding the sky.

That's a joke by the way.

We don't even need hundreds of civilians. The reason why this game can work with the Batmobile is because we'll be free to ride without concerning about running over someone or people noticing us. We're not the friendly neighborhood Batman, we're the dark and brooding Batman. The hero people rarely see. Doesn't Batman go out to battle crime when it's late in the night and there is barely traffic and people on the streets? A crowded city full of citizens and vehicles isn't the same for Batman like it is for Spidey.

A very long night for the Bats,7PM-early morning, case closed!

So excited for this :D figured it would take a next gen arkham game to make me consider upgrading consoles

I only wish they would come up with a story, that spans several days or weeks. I don't mind everything taking place at night. I just don't like that every epic adventure of Batman, gets finished in a single night.

I'm personally fine with it. It's one of those things I can suspend my disbelief on when it comes to superhero video games, much like the idea of a character having like thousands of adventures and not aging much.

Though I did think Arkham Origins took it a bit too far. Two prison breaks in just a few hours was a bit silly IMO.

Oh I'm sure there will be one, even if it's slightly cool I'll have to buy it. Which owning a PS4 game I want to play that badly will only force my hand into buying a PS4 now. I'll likely wait until shortly before it comes out to do so.

Oh yeah, once it gets a final release date, i'll probably pick up a PS4 around a month or so before it releases. :woot:

I know they haven't shown much interest in him before, but after this I really hope Rocksteady make a Superman game. I need a great Superman game. A Judge Dredd game would also be pretty cool.
