I understand and appreciate the opinions of those of you (snivelling sons of *****es) who disagree with me, but I, for one, am gonna be a little pissed if in TDK Bruce just becomes a sensational detective without any prior indication of this.

yeah a few flashbacks in TDK to a young Bruce globetrotting in his quest for experience would be nice. We forget that his areas of training are not just in the field of martial arts or detective work but escape artist, sleight of hand, disguises and impersonations, technology, engineering, biological sciences and a host of other fields. I think they should touch upon his photographic memory/total recall abilities also to help explain how such a young man could have several lifetimes worth of experiences under his belt.

The training seemed to be enough, but it just felt like it went by fast because of the sudden cuts(No blackouts).

I said yes, but not too much more. I hope that eventually we'll have a Bat Cave with gymnastics equipment and whatnot set up, perhaps see a little working out going on while Alfred is bringing Bruce some news, etc. I'd also like to see Batman sitting in front of his computer doing a lot of work at one point briefly.

They should have shown SOME criminology/detective training. It's funny that in 45 minutes of exposition we didn't see any of that from "The World's Greatest Detective".

I think there is enough stuff going on in this movie, plus Bruce trained for quite awhile with the League. Beating the crap out of thugs every night in Gotham is training. The more you practice, the better you get.

This is exactly my point. Plus, I would also like to see how Bruce learned to fight before he joined the League of the shadows

Ideally, BATMAN BEGINS would have been two separate films. One 2-hour film entirely devoted to Wayne's journeys before he returned to Gotham, and then another 2-hour film about his appearance in Gotham. However, that idea is entirely unfeasible.

So what did they do? They compressed the two into one film. Yeah, detail had to be sacrificed, and that's unfortunate. I miss a lot of the details of Wayne's development. But it's what needed to be done.

To be honest, I actually like the section of the film with Wayne rather than Batman. I just didn't like the suit, shakey camera, constipated voice.
The Wayne part was much better story telling and acting between characters.

So did I, but that had nothing to do with the suit, shaky-cam, or Batman voice (which I loved). It had to do with a second half that descended into standard Hollywood action hijinks, rather than providing something entirely original.

No, you're right. The second half of the movie was same old Hollywood action crap. The story dwindled for me when he got Falcone at the docks.

I only think the story got generic around the time of the Tumbler chase (and even then, had some good moments). Before that, it's all good.

So, is TDK going to be much like the second half of Begins? I'm pretty sure we can say yes. What else can be done with Wayne? I'm sure people will say " a million things," but what else? The story telling was so good with Wayne.

I think that if they showed all that detective work training in BB, then not have him hardly use any of it would have been pretty pointless. He didn't need to use THAT much detective work in BB.

BUT I think they should, and easily could, show some flash backs of him learning detective work in the Dark Knight, it could strengthen his character as a guy who knows his stuff and/or strengthen on screen his relationship with Gordon.

But saying Batman Begins' 2nd half was just a bunch of hollywood crap is lame--it was classic Batman.

And I think it's pretty obvious they are gonna spice it up a bit for this sequel, do you really think Nolan is just gonna throw out some straight forward flick?

My absolute favorite scene in Begins was the training scene. It's 3.5 minutes of splendid fabulousness.

I believe they spent just the right amount of time on Batman's training. After all, it was the intensity and quality rather than the length of training that Batman received that made him what he was.

As someone pointed out, however, there's no reason to think of Batman as anything more than a superb ninja. Nothing is shown of the birth of the "world's greatest detective." Part of that could be because he is just starting out (and even in year one he found he made a lot of errors in judgment off the bat) but I still think Nolan should have shown him getting at least some background in investigative work.....

Exactly. I really would like to see Bruce Wayne learning the ways of being a dectective, as he has already learned a great deal of martial arts and the ways of the ninja. I could see Bruce/Batman learning how to be a detective. I believe Goyer/Nolan has written TDK to show more of Batman's detective skills. I mean, come on - he is suppose to be one of the greatest detectives of all time.

Why is this thread here? Shouldn't this be in the, oh, I don't know, the BATMAN BEGINS section?

Jesus you people give me a headache sometimes.

So, is TDK going to be much like the second half of Begins?
In what sense?

What else can be done with Wayne?
Well, it seems they're having Wayne drawn into the conflict with his alter ego. With Batman starting to dominate Wayne's life, is there any room for Bruce? Then there's the love triangle with Rachel/Dent/Bruce that's going on, as well as other corporate things.

I agree, very similar to flashbacks in BTAS. That would have been perfect.

I could have used more....I thought that was the coolest part of the movie
