Batman Begins has a whiney, mopey, near-emo protagonist. It's designed to appeal to the adolescent crowd, regardless of whether they're over 30 or not. The fact it uses 'real' props, doesn't change the fact that Batman was as far from the comics as he's ever been in the Schumaker era. His whole attitude was that of a depressed/angry teen, as opposed to that of a very, very dark man.

IF Batman had been like No Country for Old Men (minus, say, the actual killing), then, THEN I could have had respect for it as a 'mature movie' or somehow being true to the boogey-man of superheroes, Batman.

As is, it was built to sell Action figures. And it did. Millions of 'em.

The reason why Iron Man, whom I never liked in comics, is the best Superhero Movie to me (both as a superhero movie, and as a film) is because it allowed it's protagonist to be adult. It was, in no way, a coming of age story. Tony was, even as a lothario, a mature character. He knew what he wanted, he was not pining after his childhood sweetheart, not brooding over his dead parentage. He grew every single scene.

Until Batman grows up, it doesn't matter how many nods it does to comics... the movie is neither "Batman" nor "mature" at its core.

Ironman's origin was rushed where as at least we know EVERYTHING about Bruce now to understand why he is who he is and this new movie will take it a level further into his psyche

Stereotype Arabs??? Come on dude...more unoriginal than that poor excuse of a power ranger in that spider-man movie

People cared about Batman Begins' supporting characters where as all people wanted to see was Ironman. That's it. No one cared at how bad the final act was, also BB didn't have a real great finale. BB was waaaay smarter than Iron man as was Hulk. Even Daredevil was smarter but horrible as a movie.

Iron Man was an amazing movie for what it was, but after you get past the wow factor there isn't really anything deeper than the SFX.

Ok. Spider-man has a power ranger in it...let's just leave it at that and see the level of maturity.
Just because you don't like a particular costume doesn't make a movie any less or more mature than another. The fact that you seem to think very shallow and superficial aspects of these are grounds for their maturity as films just goes to show how immature you are.

You believing that Spider-man is remotely mature compared to BB or even put those in a category other than comic book is immature. Batman is a much better made movie all together. MUCH better.

I actually enjoyed both parts of the story Ironman and tony stark. So thats a false statement

How so? Batman might seem all serious, but lines like "nice coat", "I gotta get me one of those", "damn good television" and "what's the point of all those push ups..." say otherwise. And it might seem adult and mature, but the story and dialogue doesn't even begin to resemble the way people really talk, act or respond in those situations. It's as much a flight of fancy as Spider-Man.

I'd say the difference is Spider-Man embraced it comic bookish universe, while Batman unsuccessfully tried to hide it. Both films feature death, emotional growth of very adolescent characters, cliche' romantic subplots and corny dialogue, the difference is Batman Begins tries to convince the viewer it's above all that when in fact the entire film is weighed down by it.

You're trying to use tone as an indicator of quality, which is isn't. Tons of films that claim to be dark and brooding are as mature as an episode of Looney Toons. Batman Begins fits that category. It's unrealistic, yet claims otherwise. It's comic booky, but acts all super serious. It's poorly written, but tries to appear all aloof and intelligent.

Wow... those are some intense generalizations. You've projected your feelings onto the majority with no basis.

If Raza was a stereotype Arab, then you need to watch more movies. As for stripping a movie down to it's core: When you take away all the trappings, Iron Man is the story about a Man, and Batman Begins is a story about a boy. That's why Iron Man trumps it for me.

And then you come to me and tell me the movie where Batman says "Can you drive stick" among other wisecracks - a movie where "no one" cared how bad the last act was, because they were, apparently, so caught up in Batman's awesomenss... you want to tell me this is a "smart" movie? Get outta here.. :whatever:

honestly...they're all the same level....

Spider-Man 1 and 2....good action, but the Spidey persona is butchered, the Mj romance sickingly sweet, and the obsessive need to make villains sympathetic is just...ugh.

BB....is ruined by lame action sequences, dialogue problems, and a cliched finale. The whole realism thing is more souped up by fanboys, so i wont count it against Nolan...nolan never really claims that the movies are superrealistic

And then we have IM...the current golden boy...The last act sucks....devolves into another cliche finale....you can tell the story dosent have much to it...RDJ's dialogue revisions probably saved this flick from being another FF...ultimately...this movie just isnt the greatest thing ever...people are only saying that, imo, because of all the comic references and RDJ's performance...which are the only aspects that transcend "Barely above decent"

Yea I hated some of the cliche stuff in Batman but it does have a strong KID fan base too and we didn't want another HULK which had hardly ANY humor and absolutely no one liners to at least entertain some. One Liners do make great in Franchises and are very memorable. You can have BAD one liners, but also GOOD ones. I do agree BB had it's flaws and it's campy moments. It was a GREAT Batman film and a good film period but, it wasn't the perfect Batman film...maybe I'll actually achieve my goals and dreams and make it to hollywood status and revolutionize comic book movies like Tim Burton did.

Ha! I told you, this thread was only made to down Marvel movie and attempted to make BB the be all end all of superhero movies. What's so funny is, dude can't even see that every argument he makes FOR BB can be used AGAINST it. It's far from the comic source, there are a lot of corny lines in it, and Bale as Bruce was really meh. Again, I loved BB but the constant bashing of Marvel movies to make BB looks good is so tiring! :whatever:
