I think one of the things that interests me about Gyllenhall in the part is that he can do ugly.

The man’s a good looking dude, and can carry of the matinee idol routine, but his past performances show he can go to very ugly, nasty places in his roles, both physically and mentally. This, I think, is very important for a convincing live action performance of Batman.

The same was true for Bale.

Affleck has never struck me as an actor who can do ugly. This was always the doubt for me when he was cast. He’s a square-chinned Hollywood icon, but his body of work have never given me the impression he could embody Batman’s darkness of character properly.

I think you need an actor who can play villains as well as heroes to play Batman.

Well what's stopping Gyllenhaal from having stubble or a short beard in the role? I thought people were over the "clean-shaven Batman" look anyway. I seem to recall that being a big positive for fans with Affleck's Batman.

Nothing at all. I very much am on the side of Batman having stubble. But, he's showing me a picture of Gyllenhaal with a beard which I guess you can say proves my point that w/o a beard he looks ready for kindergarten. Look, i'm being sarcastic there, but beard or no beard, I feel he looks very young. That's all.. He's not my number 1 choice.

He'll always be Bubble Boy to me.

He'll make a good batman. That's the point this is a batman when he first started, so he has got to be young. He can't be old and beat up like Ben Affleck.

I'll have you know that is a picture of Jakey G aged 20 years with state of the art digital technology.

Totally on board with this. If we can get that Batman, i'd love it but it would have to be written that way. Bale's Batman had trouble convincing me and that always irritated me because he's a great actor. The writing was there, but he, as an actor missed the mark for me. Less so in Begins.

Doesn't sound like that's what they're going for, and if it were i'd be EXTREMELY disappointed. We had 3 movies of "early years Batman" and i'd like to move passed that.

After 5 years being Batman is best, I think. Mid thirties. Long enough to be seasoned, not so long as to draw the obvious and boring Miller comparisons.

...basically the Batman they should have used in BvS :whatever:

i wonder if Jake is seriously considering. he would have the best resume of any actor who started the Batman role.

and i'm sure he'd command $10-15 million for the role if not more.

He's due to be filming several films like the new Dan Gilroy project for Netflix, he also has The Son, a film with Benedict Cumberbatch, a film about radical socialists signing up to fight ISIS and the film adaptation of the video game "The Division".

a heavy plate.

Jake Gyllenhaal has to be the favorite and if DC were smart they would cast him as Bruce Wayne/Batman

Very true. Even though I liked Affleck's take on Bats, The best Batmen have been good villians in other movies i.e. Keaton, Bale. As a concept Batman is one step away from being a villian himself!

This, so much this. Affleck isn’t a bad actor but he’s so dull as Batman because he doesn’t have the edge that the role requires. Or if he does, Snyder sure as hell can’t bring it out in him. Affleck might be good at playing an A-hole (like he did in Mallrats and Dazed & Confused) but he’s never really gone dark like Jake and Bale have.

Yet people act like he’s the best Batman EVAR because of his costume and one scene where his stunt double threw 2,000-pound crates through the air in a warehouse.

I love this post.

:funny:

Hamm looked awesome in Baby Driver and could definitely pull off the role if he needed to. I would just be worried about his longevity. I don't want two movies out of him and then we're back in the same position again where they need to recast.
