BvS Batman casting thread for Man Of Steel 2 - Part 1

You know who's out but could easily be put back in? Christian Bale. lol! Exodus starts shooting in October and is said to have a 19 week shoot. By my estimation that would have it wrapping up by Spring 2014 just in time for Batman/Superman to start filming. Hey....I will continue to dream until the new Batman is officially cast.

Tom Riley is the star of Da Vinci's Demons, a show created by David S. Goyer. Even if he's not playing Batman, I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll be in this film. He works so closely with Goyer.

Jensen Ackles has a little momentum on Twitter, but I don't see anything coming of it.

I really don't think it's gonna be a tv actor guys, especially following Bale. Last Friday Jett, being his usual Jett self, made a facebook post saying "Going back to the Begins? Well. Hmmmm?" That either tells me they are waiting for Bale which is my dream scenario but the most unlikely one sadly. The other is that they might have Jake Gyllenhaal in the bag which is the more likely scenario seeing as how Bale's done and Jake was the runner up in 2003 when casting for Begins! Also last week in regards to that comment thread someone said something about it being a tv actor in which Jett DID infact respond by saying think again or something along those lines. Out of all the actors who tried out for Begins in back in 2003, Bale and Gyllenhaal are the only two with any major star power.

*cough* Faora *cough*

Hey, personally I didn't think the speed in Man of Steel was all that great. It was far better than anything else I've seen though. I come from a VFX background, so I get the challenges in making it look good and I'm happy it's getting better. The flying on the other hand was frickin' awesome!

Twitter wont decide this,WB probably already has a short lst, if not a primary contender.

Oh and any actor who's lobbying for the role on twitter may as well just kiss it goodbye because there's no way in hell WB is going to award the role to some begger on a social media site.

It's really interesting just thinking about this stuff - I wonder if WB have a clear favourite in mind, or if they are debating this heavily themselves and have a handful of options (out of pretty much any male actor in Hollywood and beyond).

Goslings reps says Star Wars is a rumor.
They have to say this. It's their job. Elmayimbe and Latino Review broke this and they've been on point with casting lately. Cumberbatch as Khan, anyone remember? They denied that. It came true. They broke the Ford, Hamill returning to SW I believe. So I believe a meeting was held as they said, with Gosling. But will he take the job? Who knows.

I feel like Jake G is still in play and has a lot of momentum from what I've seen on the Google machine.

Can we rule Armie officially out yet? I really want to.
Armie is out. Lone Ranger failed too hard, it's fresh off that movie. He's out. He's also too tall with not enough intensity. Lone Ranger proves he doesn't have the intensity to lead such a franchise.

It's possible Dusty, but im hearing they start shooting Bats/Supes early in the year. Like January/February. That takes Bale and Manganiello out of the race.

Gyllenhaal will be on the shortlist but I just think it would be lazy if they grabbed the "backup choice that wasn't good enough for Batman 10 years ago" choice. Don't listen too deep into what Jett says.

I don't see how The Lone Ranger proves that Hammer doesn't have the intensity to play Batman especially since the character was not written as such. Heck, how can any of us know who's in or out of contention for the role?

If I were to give an honest guess about WB's short list, I think it would look like this

First Choices
Ryan Gosling
Jake Gyllenhaal

Would Settle for
Wes Bentley
Joe Manganiello

Desperation
Armie Hammer

Sounds about accurate. If they go the desperate route, ill catch the movie but im only watching it once and not opening weekend. Probably a cheap night lol. I really wont be interested, ill be pissed quite frankly.

Settling with Bentley is a million times better than settling with Manganiello. I don't really look at Bentley as "settling" though. He's a fantastic choice. Settling would be Manganiello or Evans (who has a bad accent but has big franchises coming up and a past with Cavill). That feels more like settling to me.

To me, Gosling would be the studios ultimate prize.

It's not that I really listen too deeply to what Jett is saying, but I do believe El Mayimbe which is where I think Jett is getting his information from. It's funny how everytime Mayimbe tweets something news related to DC, Jett is right behind him within a couple minutes.

In regards to Jake not being good enough 10 years ago, well keep in mind it may have had something to do with his age at the time too. Not mention Bale was such a fan favorite for the role between 2000 and 2003.

Yes! I'm all for Gosling. Him and Jake are pretty much the best actors on the list. The rest of them are just meh. We need someone who brings something different to the table. The reason i like Gosling a lot for the role is because he can carry a movie on his own. Drive is a good example. He's intense and magnetic enough to have the audience's attention. Sort of like what Will Smith did with I am Legend. A one man movie. Although i don't know if that's a good example(And in no way am i saying that Will smith should be Batman ). But if you have an actor who's talented enough to do that, put him in a movie with Cavil/Supes, and you'll have gold right there.

Fassbender is the best choice. If he wanted it and they wanted him, they could make it work. Has anyone hear him do an American accent? I can't recall seing him do one. I have no doubt he could pull one off.

He'd be a great already established Batman (a la Keaton) who could do the dark part perfectly.

Gosling is my first choice too, by far. But if he chooses Star Wars or it doesnt work out, there is Gyllenhaal who is growing on me. If he doesnt spike his hair up he looks older and could definitely pull off Bruce Wayne

He's a weird looking guy though. Like a cross between Burt from the Muppets and Novak Djokovic.

1. Ryan Gosling
2. Michael Fassbender
3. Jake Gyllenhaal

Brilliant actors in their own right and versatile enough to play the complex role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Sorry to disagree with you on the speed... but Faora vs Soldiers is the best and realistic they could have done... AWESOMENESS

I'm warming up a little to Jake G. I still can't get on board with Gosling. I agree that he can play the part, but I don't know that he really looks the part to me.

I've got a feeling Gyllenhaal is going to get the part, and I think he'd knock it out of the park. Physically he will look right with Cavill as Supes as well. He was Goyer's favorite back in the day and he fits the role even better now IMO.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but perhaps whoever they get for Batman is someone who is at a higher status of recognition than Cavill. Because not only could people be a but thrown off that Bale isn't back as Batman, they might be a little displeased with it. Using someone more recognizable and likeable may assuage any dislike. That way when they find out, it may be easier to embrace more. That is, if they think he's a good choice. Because people seemed to have really embraced Bale. That's why Gosling or Gyllenhaal is a good direction to go in.
