While I don't like Manganeillo for the role -- and he is very unlikely to do it based on his True Blood role, I wouldn't go as far to call him a meathead.

He just did a Nerdist podcast and is apparently a huge comic book fan and nerd. He seemed like a pretty cool guy.

I will have to listen to how he is in real life. I am not very familiar with him outside of media, except what I've seen in some interviews and read that he's said. Sometimes listening to one of these guys talk for an extended length of time helps.

Not that I'm vouching for him. :o

This entire conversation, originated by you for whatever goddamned purpose, is entirely disposable like all others you originate I am guessing. Don't address me again and you can be certain I have no intention of addressing you hence. Or if you want to have the juvenile last say, respond to me one last time to me and end this tiresome ********.

Okay. I'll just quote this so that I can remember who you are- and how delicate you are.

Nobody wants race baiting. (present company excluded...? )

Other than one or two more incensed posts after some back and forth with other people, I don't see any blatant race baiting in his posts. Just a differing opinion.

Edit: Honestly, looking back through the thread you're the only one that seems to be throwing the term around.

Meathead or not, Joe Manganiello just isn't a good enough actor to play Batman. It is kind of unfortunate that people just jump right to calling him a meathead or a greaseball though, he actually does seem cool and rather intelligent in interviews. If he were to play Batman he wouldn't play him like a meathead...but I doubt he really has the chops to give it any gravitas either.

I don't want either of them as Batman, but I will never understand Manganiello getting lumped into the same category as Scott Adkins.

He will be playing Stanley Kowalski at Yale soon, which is somewhat of a meathead role but it's still Yale. I'm sure he could act beyond what he's given, he just needs to be given something.

BTW, this is not me defending him as a choice for Batman. I don't think he's right for it.

He's a better choice than the likes of Adkins, but still all wrong for the part. I'd rather have the "pretty boys", Bloom and Bomer. Not that I'd enjoy them much.

Yes, I brought the term up to call it what it was, the accusation that some posters think less of another race because they don't think actors of certain races should be playing certain characters.

I agree.

Yeah, I don't have any problem with Joe. He actually seems like a cool guy. He's also a proud Pittsburgher like me and I'm cool with (almost) anyone who bleeds black and gold. But yeah, I don't want him to play Batman. I don't think he'd be terrible, but I don't think he'd be great either. I DO think he'd make an awesome Hawkman though. I think he's more suited to barbarian/warrior-type characters. That doesn't mean he's a meathead though.

That's a great idea, Joe Manganiello would be a good Hawkman.

Alright, I'll admit when I'm wrong. Looks like a few of the posts did actually cross into that territory. Then you took it and kept baiting him on the subject. Both at fault then.

Okay, enough from me on that. On the topic of Manganiello, I agree with him being more suited to a Hawkman-like character. Batman needs an actor with the finesse to handle the Bruce Wayne/Batman dichotomy well, and that requires more than average acting skills (or at least a little bit more experience).

Pittsburgh, eh? I went to Pitt and lived there for a few years after while working at WQED and KDKA. I have a bit of soft spot for it and for people from there (David Conrad on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D!)... although I do despise their sports -- maybe I shouldn't have said that.

Can people stop arguing so much, please? I have your god**mn batman right here. Just cast him wb and end this already...

It all comes down to script.

Joker, Harvey Dent, Ra's, Bane, Selina Kyle were very well developed characters who had zero origin stories. They just appear "as is". Just have Bruce Wayne/Batman as is. Simple as that.

I am certain Goyer will come up with a grand story for this one, whether or not hie executes into a script properly is a different question.

But you still got backstories for most of those characters.

You would actually make me enjoy Superman punching Batman.

I think enough of the general public is aware of Batman's backstory to not have to delve too deeply into it. Maybe a few snippets of information here and there could work to indicate what direction Goyer is taking with it, but I don't think the movie needs to devote any real chunk of time to it.

So I come back to this thread after a 24 hour cool down period-after someone accused me on here and via pm of thinking that people aren't entitled to their opinions and that I judge a movie's quality based on it's box office numbers-and see more pointless arguements.

Yay, at least Shia brought some levity to the proceedings. I am beginning to have a virulent hatred for this thread.
