Sorry if there's a thread on this already; I didn't see one. Anyways, for those that don't know, DC is going to start publishing "Batman Confidential," a new series that is sort of taking the place of "Legends of the Dark Knight." Since Infinite Crisis cleaned up a lot of Batman's history, this title will fill in that missing continuity with new stories. Whilce Portacio is doing the art for the first arc, and this is the cover to the first issue, found on his website:

What do you guys think?

I hate it...
I dislike, Lee, Turner, A.Kubert and this looks likes another clone...
I wish they did something like Mazzuchelli or put Goran Parlov on a series.

http://lambiek.net/artists/p/parlov_goran.htm He had a great run with Punisher.

I mean Batman is the stuff off legends then put legendary artist on it, dammit!

Another clone? I dunno.....those three a pretty different enough.

I like the cover. Looks very animalistic.

The head/face really bothers me. And the rest looks way too much like Kubert's Batman. So...meh.

i dont like the face either...there should be a bit more light around the mouth or something.

and am i the only one, or does anyone else not like it when using the BAT logo, they make it grey when it's in shadows? They should just use the oval. Other than that, i like it.

now, is this in continuity? Im unaware of all the continuity added back in from the crisis. So can someone fill me in on what happened and how this might affect Batman: Year One?

From what I've read, this series is in continuity because it will be telling stories from Batman's early years that either haven't been told or have been changed due to IC. I doubt it will negate any classic stories (Year One, Man Who Laughs, etc.), it will just add on. For example, the first arc will revolve around Batman's first encounters with Lex Luthor.

Andy Diggle will be writing the Dark Knight’s first arc with art by Whilce Portacio.

“That story will really touch upon the return of Bruce Wayne,” said DiDio, “from his travels before he first puts on the bat suit and his reclaiming of Waynehood.”

What about Jordi Bernet or Gorlan Parlov or Ron Wagner?

You're nuts Two Face, that pic is hideous.

Portacio isn't bad, and his interiros look different from his covers but he definately has that Image style. Hell you could almost mistake that for Joe Q. In any event the real news is Diggle writing Batman, as he's a writer right on the cusp of a breakout hit, guy'll be a superstar soon enough.

But what's with that sudden image hype?
Howcome Superman Conf. gets Tim Sale and Batman Conf. has a lesser high profile artist?

Ah, alright. thanks for clearing that up.

and in regards to the second picture, WTF?

Andy Diggle did the first 6 issues of the revamped Swamp Thing series, collected now as BAD SEED. I didn't really like his writing much. It didn't really capture the essence of the character. It was more of a straight up horror/sci-fi arc, but nothing more. No real drama, there was unneseccery foul language that seemed to simply be there becuase it's a Vertigo title, and it didn't really represent Swamp Thing the way i knew the character.

im not saying Andy Diggle sucks at writing, but im not really exicted about him writing this.

You should try The Losers. Or Adam Strange: Planet Heist. Those are Diggle's real accomplishments.
