Batman Forever: Dark Knight Edition

Cautiously peeks head into empty room. Eyes dart to the left, to the right...

"Hello?" ...ECHO:Hello?

"I was just wondering if anything ever turned up on Drake retro's "The Dark Knight Edition. And YES. I believe him."

UPDATE 1: In google searching for anything on the fan edit, I came upon a link that said this:
"Batman - Videos - Lustige Videos - Deine funny Videos bei Clipfish Rpg Trailer City of Heroes "Dark Knight Edition" Video-Länge: 5:53 von hol83 Aufrufe: 14 ... DAVE - Batman Forever Video-Länge: 0:49 von vahux Aufrufe: 16 ..."

The website is called "clipfish" and apparently doesn't allow Americans to visit their website, only Germans. Could this be the sort of place this fan cut will turn up because of its exclusive nature (if what Drake Retro said about the editor not wanting to be noticed is true)?

Can a German or anybody with access to clipfish sign in and look for the cut? If you want to see the link, it's the last search result here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+"Batman+Forever"++"Dark+Knight+Edition"&btnG=Google+Search

UPDATE 2: If everything went down like DrakeRetro has described, it all sounds very reminiscent of Episode I: The Phantom Edit. I started thinking, what if the Phantom Editor, Mike J. Nichols did a Batman movie for the same reason he did the two prequel edits? What if he was a fan of Burton's vision and thought BF was edited poorly and robbed of any connection to the first two films? I think there's a possibility he could be involved in some way, or at least he might have an idea who is, or where we could look for leads. I wrote him an email last night.

I'll take any help I can get in solving this mystery, and locating the true Dark Knight Edition.

I hope that someone can find a working Dark knight edition, or they release an official directors cut of forever. Also I cant even find a working d/l for the red book version.

It talks a lot about the "On Star" TV ads....does anyone know who played Vicki Vale in the one On Star ad....she looks so familiar.

Hey everybody. I am making a Batman Fan Film using episodes from Batman: The Animated Series and the animated films. I would like to know what episodes/villains you'd like to see. So far I have an idea of using Batman's origin, the birth of Two Face, and the whole mob scenario with Rupert Thorne for the first film. Any ideas or interest in this?

As long as you don't mix season 4 in with 1-3 it should be fine.

I don't plan on it. I am an experienced editor with film and visuals. I also plan on using the Batman Begins score as well as bits of Elfman's scores for B89 and BR in it. I cannot create a thread because I have a lack of posts, and wanted to know people's ideas and opinions for what they would like to see.

This thread is for the "Dark Knight Edition." If you can't make a thread due to lack of posts, go comment on some of the threads that interest you, and try again.

Are there any publicly available fanedits that just restore the original timeline and all the deleted scenes? Im just wondering what this movie would have been like without the changed timeline or excessive editing that happened to the final version.

Search YouTube for 'Batman Forever: The Real Game Begins'.

UPDATE 3 (5-16-08): Mike Nichols, AKA "The Phantom Editor" wrote me back and this is what he had to say:

"Well, first... nope didn't do the Batman edit. Second, the whole "fan edit" thing is something I wasn't very comfortable with. In the beginning, the reason it seemed to get such mileage was in fact to do with art side of editing and not the EDIT OUT WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE or DO LIKE. See that part kind of lacks a discipline and is more about the ACT of doing it versus the ART. Like a coach can be a fan of baseball but SHOULD not make descisions based on being a fan of the TEAM/PLAYERS or his judgement will be impaired, the FAN EDIT term is basically kind of meaning that at least globally I feel... so how kind it is you refer to me as the author of "fan editing" to me it always highlights the "act of" instead of the "affect of" the edits. Make sense?

Look, SanDiego comicon would be a great place to get the batman edit. Honestly, I'll ask some folks if it can be gotten and point you in the right direction. It sounds like a really impressive and thoughtfilled endeavor. Curiously though, take a second and reflect on the Joel Shusucker versions and take a pencil and mark down everytime you are watching it, that your are taken out of the movie. A false moment that feels forced or fake... a joke that shouldn't be there... and I'll point out that they began editing batman forever on a AVID editing system where they viewed each cut on a small computer screen which allows your brain MORE time to register what's going on. With that in mind, the editors tended to cut each scene to take place faster and when the edits appeared on a big screen, the intent sometimes became unregistered to the audience. It took me out of the movie a lot when I saw it and on my virtual notepad I made note of it. On a small DVD screen it won't be as much of an issue of course... but make you notes... thoughts.... and when you see the DARK KNIGHT edition see the AFFECTS of the these edits vs the original and FEEL the affects instead of merely looking for what is different. Hopefully you will find it satisfying and educational.

Again, if I find one I'll point you in the right direction...

Sounds like he actually might look into it. For those who think it might exist, this could be a big step.

Oh, and is anyone going to San Diego?

I don't know what happened to the cover image, but It was essentially a black cover with Batman and Riddler and maybe Two-Face as well...and I think the images of the characters were from the comic adaptation. They were definitely drawings and not photos.

So, is anyone going to San Diego, and if so, can you please look for copies of Dark Knight Edition?

Believers must unite to see what we can pull up.

So...is there any way I can get this Batman Forever Dark Knight Edition? Download link or something?

I can watch the videos (as can anyone who doesn't have auto rtranslate on) but can't find the video in question.

That's right, I'm quoting myself...

Anyone going to San Diego Comic Con? If so, we need to scour the floors and bootlegs and look for copies of this fan cut. Go back a page and check out what Mike Nichols (The Phantom Editor) said about San Diego. Perhaps this is the place to look for it, since it seems that it hasn't made it online.

Can we get anyone for sure to say, "Yes, I'm going to Comic Con in San Diego, and Yes, I will look for the movie?"

I can't go, though I envy anyone who will be able to!

that's a pretty cool idea. i'd be up for it in TNBA style tho.

What's the score here? What's next?

We scour conventions looking for this edit (COMIC CON!) and Mike Nichols says he's going to look into it and see what he can find. I don't know how serious or urgent he will be about that, though. I can't imagine he cares that much. I suppose more people could get involved by emailing him (the Phantom editor) and maybe Jett over at BOF. Of course, the guy who brought all this to our attention would be a good person to try to write...if you can find him.

We need to get more people looking into this situation! I'd love to get Scissor Puppy/ Drakeretro back in here to talk about this, but all the flames made him run away.

There are "true believers" on these boards and across the net...and I,for one want to see this cut.

Any other ideas for what comes next?

A CALL TO ALL WHO ARE ATTENDING SDCC!!! Please scour every inch of the convention for a copy of The Dark Knight Edition...or any thing related at all. Maybe we can even just get word of it or something.

LOOK FOR BATMAN FOREVER: THE DARK KNIGHT EDITION AT SDCC!!!
