The only thing I remember liking about Batman Forever was Seal's 'Kiss From a Rose' song from the soundtrack.

That too. But Seal's song...it just sounds epic when I hear it. There's not that many ballads/slow songs that can do that for you.

Actually Forever has a lot more darkness and shadow that it does colour. Most of the movie takes place at night, even those neon signs are surrounded by black.

Exactly! I do like the Batman Forever look because the Neon lights are heavily contrasted with dark sets..and to tell you the truth that always looked "dark" to me since I was a kid (10 years old in 95), I see no camp or "60's" Batman on that, it always came up with a weird effect to me, kinda lika a bad acid trip eventhoug I've never been on acid. Batman & Robin lost that aspect since everything looked to bright and to worsen things the film seemed to be shot throug some odd pink filter.

Thought I'd make a thread for it, since it's not that bad, and I like it 'cause Robin finally made it into the movies, too bad B&R got really out there and ruined the series.

But as far as BF goes it's not that bad, I liked how it got more into Bruce's head, that scene of him facing the Bat in the deleted scene should have been kept, it's so beautiful, as a big Batman fan seeing it is almost like a religous experience.

I just bought BF the special edition at Circuit City, I just watched it. I should have bought the Anthology but I didn't want B&R, so I had the first 2 specials now I have the trilogy, I don't consider B&R as part of anything.

Val was good as Batman and Bruce, at least Val did a good Batman voice where as stupid Clooney didn't even bother.

Clooney ticked me off when he said he was a big fan but then recently on some talk show he said oh if I would've known he was dark and moody I would have done that. Well, if he was a fan or even saw any of the previous films he would have known that, what a fool.

Jim's Riddler is cool too, in the respect it's kind of a tribute to Frank gorshin, but it's also half Jim Carrey being Jim, but still cool, I could do without that silver costume at the end, they should have just kept him in the green tights.

Even Batman Returns was really out there, with the whole gothic thing.

I saw Batman Begins before I saw the other Batman movies (well, I had seen them, but I hadn't paid the close attention I did since I saw Begins and got into Batman).

Batman and Batman Returns were decent, but nowhere near the depth of Begins.

Forever, while not as awful as Batman and Robin, was nearly unbearable to me. It was too bright, too colorful, Two Face is portrayed like a 60's Joker.

I'm so glad they rebooted the franchise the right way.

After watching Begins a few times I just got sick of it. Even the bad guys were a non threat, every mobster was disposed of so easily.

IMO Begins and BF are neck to neck. BF is just plain fun while retaining a lot of darker qualities that would make it 2x as good if they were more serious while Begins was a decent origin movie but not much beyond that (everything went too easy for bruce becoming the bat in BB).

It's a shame some elements of fandom are so keen to label something campy and therefore wrong that they cannot accept anything more complex than that. There are elements of camp in Batman Forever. There are also a lot of serious character elements, and a lot of classic Batman themes (Bruce giving up Batman, the theory Batman inspires supervillains, the introduction of Robin) that none of the previous movies go into.

I completely understand the fanboy desire to have their favourite characters treated with upmost respect, but some fans just take it too far and take any suggestion of humour as a personal insult. The Hype! boards are one of few places where you'll find people more open-minded to discussion.

Two-Face was totally raped and the nipples and bat-butt close-up ruined what should have been a basic respect for the character. In comparision to BR, BR is still a better movie.

No way. Batman Returns is leaps and bounds ahead of those two. Penguin and Catwoman were dark psychological villains who were thrilling to watch. All three villains, including Schreck, represented aspects of Bruce Wayne/Batman gone bad.

Riddler and Two Face spent the movie acting like Joker wannabes, and trying to out ham eachother in every scene. And what the hell was with Two Face constantly tossing the coin until he got the answer he wanted? Lame.

Val Kilmer and Alfred were the only bright spots in that movie, IMO. Nicole Kidman was pretty good, too.

Not that great IMO. Other than doing some rock climbing and watching ninjas warp, what really made Bruce Wayne Batman? There was nothing shown of his detective skills, he became the bat much too easily in BB.

Everyone felt really wooden in BB, even the great Christian Bale. Sometimes when he has that serious look on his face while giving another corny heroic speech, I felt like he was staring out into space.

The whole thing felt more like a play-by-play theater act rather than people getting involved in a series of event and we the viewers are just in there to see the ride. Sometimes the pacing was great, other times it was just flat out bad. A lot of little filler scenes that were not wovened into the movie with great grace, they are just rather just there. Ex: the one where the Wayne Enterprise chairman is being told of a "water weapon" being stolen, it was so boring and wooden, it was just not very interesting (plus the idea of water being sucked out of Gotham's supply was laughable). Even the Scarecrow scenes were mostly just "meh". It's almost like Nolan can't decide whether or not he wants to use better camera angles or other tricks to make the more unrealistic scenes better looking or if he just wants to keep shooting everything face on with the camera flat on the ground.

Not to diss BB, I just don't think it's THAT great. I'm hoping TDK will be 10x better than BB.
