When Batman sprays Dr. Crane with the hallucination spray and crane looks at Batman what is Batman supposed to be? Also, how did they create the look of Batman in that scene...all black makeup or the cowl with black makeup or something completely different?

Different cowl with CGI added in post-production

Just an accentuation, magnification and contortion of Batman's already supposedly scary appearence, I suppose. As for how it was done, I dunno. It would have been good if Crane imagined crows flying from Batman's mouth.

That sounds dumb

LOL!

But yeah, I'm guessing he was supposed to be just an over-the-top image of Batman, but it did remind me of a gargoyle...who oozed from the mouth. :woot:

Well, I'd have liked crows to have been involved in the hallucination in some way, since, in most books featuring Scarecrow, Crane was described as having a childhood fear of crows, equivelent to Batman's fear of bats, which caused him to adopt the Scarecrow persona. This is like Batman assuming his role as the embodiment of fear; modeled after what terrified him the most: bats.

I would've morphed the monster face into Crane's face at the end, as if he's looking back at himself, and have Crane start to smile in a drugged-out sort of way...sort of a commentary on what a sick individual he is deep down. Maybe that's too 'Joker', though.

it was the effect that the medicine was having on crane. The medicine makes you fear everything with what you fear most, so in this case they were showing the audience the POV of crane when he looked at batman with the toxic effecting him.

That's another thing I didn't like about BB. The hallucinations were quite inconsistent.

Crane sees Batman as a complete demon, yet the people at the end - or Rachel - barely seem to see some deformity in other people and the annoying kid is not even scared of Batman. In fact he seems to not be affected by the gas at all. "I told you he will come", God he should have died after that.

The kid looked scared, we obviously didn't get his p.o.v. in that scene. And hallucinations are inconsistent. Each person could see something different. In that scene with Crane, right prior too the henchman were piping him up as this monster that could "fly" and "disappear" ... maybe that played a role with the hallucination drug. And at the end when Bats is gliding towards the LOS, he is scene with real bat-like ears and a more creature like silouhette.

We get the "I told you he wil come" which is pretty much his pov (even if not visual). And that was the same he was saying before Batman came, so his pov didn't change at all. When Rachel was gassed she was about to die in fear, even when Falcone - who supposedly got a less concentrated dose of fear gas than Rachel - was gassed, he was in extreme fear, screaming and all. But when people at the end got the same gas, it looked like a bad trip and that's it, very meh. And when the kid got the gas, he didn't change at all, it didn't look more scared than a regular boy watching everybody going nuts.

But the intensity should be the same. One mob boss as Falcone almost creamed his pants, yet regular people looked barely scared.

Yeah, they saw Batman as a creature. That's true. But I felt the fear gas effects' intensity was too inconsistent from time to time.

They were screaming and ducking, all while going insane ... they weren't scared?!?

I think the studio actually had them tone some of that stuff down. I know there was a p.o.v. scene with rachel in the Batmobile where she looks over and sees the bat-demon ... but it was cut out.

Wasn't this scene also in the Batman TAS with scarecrow? I wonder if it was a homage to that. :oldrazz:

That's just it though, the gas is the same type of thing as the flower used at the start of the movie (but much more powerful). It plays with and enhances the person's own fears, bringing them to life. Crane had damn good reason to be petrified of Batman, especially at that moment. What he saw was an amplification of the imposing beast-like figure that Batman represents to his enemies. That was the manifestation of Crane's fear.

Rachel was immune to the gas at the end, was she not? As for the kid, he idolized batman and didn't necessarily have as much to fear. In any case, what he saw was the manifestation of his own fearful image of Batman.

Also, if you like, you could consider the dose delivered to the city at the end of the movie a much less concentrated dose than Crane got when Bats sprayed him in the face. hahaha

Wasn't the child's fear "Fire"? Since his POV when he saw scarecrow you see the flaming eyes and the horse breathes fire?
