Batman for me. I grew up with the character.

I've always thought Batman was the more popular character (and possibly the most popular CB character period), so it's a little odd Superman is leading the poll. I guess Superman is more popular than I gave him credit for.

Superman. Batman in a close second, then all the rest, somewhere about ten feet down.

My surprise comes from my personal experience of having to defend Superman and explain why he's awesome to just about everyone I ever talk superheroes with, as they always insist Batman is the "cool" one.

You have Bryan Singer to blame for that.

Superman wasn't considered boring until after 2006. That movie did tremendous damage to the character.

I was obsessed with both as a child but Supes has always been my main man.
:smf:

The granddaddy of all superheroes.

Superman for me. I understand why those would chose Batman or others over Superman. He's too powerful, etc...

But that's exactly what draws me to him. He's the super man in character more so than anything else and to me it's remarkable that a being as powerful is he is, is actually the moral compass all humanity should strive to be. That's his greatest power and the reason people should love him the most. With all that he can do, he is only here to help where he can. His humility, his salt of the Earth upbringing, that's why he's super... forget that he's so powerful not many can test him. Remember that he is so powerful that not many can test him and he STILL isn't ruling the world.

Imagine how a poll like this would be like if the general audience had a crack at it, i mean were all loyal DC fans here with respected tastes afterall

The master of the deadliest forms of martial arts, the physically perfected human being, the self-made super soldier, he is vengeance, he is the night, The Batman.

"He's too powerful" is not an understandable or valid critique of Superman imo. There's more to the guy but I guess when people only know him for his powers, it's inevitable they'll pick that as a negative aspect of the character for whatever reason.

Also, I just found this neat article that offers some good points about the character.

It really isn't valid at all. He needs the most powers because he carries the greatest burden.

Wolverine isn't asked to protect the earth from a comet storm.

Yes, this always cracks me up about Superman naysayers. If Superman is overpowered what does that make your favourite Superhero?

The truth is; Superman is the top-dog, he is the first and most inspiring Superhero. He is universally known as the most powerful superhero, a position that all the others yearn for. And he has occupied that position for 75+ years.
On top of that, he's humble and selfless. The "S" symbol is one of the most recognizable symbols in the world. It's up there with the Christian Cross and Yin Yang. Superman is much more than a fictional character, his influence goes beyond the comicbook sphere.

Just go on YouTube if you have time to kill and type Superman vs Goku Death Battle reactions. The tears of the salty fanboys are so tasty

Gots to be Supes. :yay:

A lot of people have already expressed things I feel about the character better than I can probably articulate. It's not about how much power he has, but the way he carries the responsibility of it.

I agree that Superman is the first superhero, and you can make the argument that he's the most inspiring.

But I wouldn't say he's the top dog...not anymore. Not for the past 20+ years. That's a position a character has to continuously earn, not one you get to keep just because you were the first.

I'll give it to Supes: No one will be the top Superhero for as long as he was. When it came to being the top superhero, Superman held that position for nearly 50 years. But right now, Supes is more a figurehead than the top guy.

IMO, The Top Dog right now is either Batman, Spider-Man, or Iron Man.

That's one gorgeous drawing. Just look at it; the movie suit looks stunning even on the comic book page.

I'm not sure if Marvel has this issue or not, but there seems to be something of a disconnect between DC's film universe and its comic book universe. It's like they almost intentionally distance themselves from each other, when I think that if the people controlling both mediums worked closer together, it would benefit everyone. I understand why they updated Superman's costume in the comics. But why don't they update it to THIS amazing design, instead of what he's wearing in the new 52 (a crappy-looking, high-collared armor with a He-Man action figure belt)? You have one design that updates the look yet stays faithful to the classic design... and then you have that other piece of crap. I realize not everyone feels that way, but I've yet to hear any fan out there say they like that design.

Ugh, Iron Man. :csad: Curse RDJ's charisma because on no planet should that character be one of the world's most beloved superheroes, imo. He wouldn't even crack my Top 10 best Marvel heroes, tbh.

Marvel has the opposite problem. They keep "adjusting" their comics universe to more closely resemble their movie-verse, and pushing certain elements and characters' significance to boost their standing for the movies and frankly, I don't care for it.

I agree, superman isn't the top dog anymore (and hasn't been since 1989) but I can't agree with spidy and Ironman top dogs either.
Spidy is infact struggling with a second reboot coming in the space of only 5 years.
Ironman has become an A list superhero but his popularity is directly tied with marvel's and I believe that once marvel's streak comes to an end Ironman's popularity will wane also.

Without a doubt batman is THE top dog and will continue to be so until some other superhero gets a trilogy that rivals the dark knight's.

Totally agree, I think the MOS is perfection and I personally would even take it over the original (or classic or whatever you'd call it). Sadly we're stuck with jim lee's suit whose design still belongs to the 90s era.

Again, well said. You have a firm grasp on this topic.

Bro I think Iron Man fans are RDJ fans, when he calls it quits so will they and the character will go back to to being B list.

And Cap will take his rightful place as the most popular Avenger. :sly:
