I dunno......I was diassapointed by it, but re-reading it now....it's not all bad.

I just wish we'd had gotten something more....."traditional", ya know? Like...MORE Clark......MORE Lois.....I mean, where the **** was Jimmy? Or Perry?

****in Jeph Loeb's HUSH had more of Perry and more Jimmy......and Perry only showed up for 2 panels...and Jimmy didn't even show up. But, his presence was there. Why? Cause he's the Goddamn Jimmy Olsen.

Lmao....I could see Morrison's ALL STAR Jimmy saying that.

I was hoping for superman's version of hush. A run that, while it may not be shakespheare, created an excitement for the character again. a fun book with entertaining story and art, and supermans greatest allies and villains.

Alas, we didnt get that....

Check this, a nice review from the Philidelphia (did I spell the ****er right?) Daily News:

DC Comics' own Hou-'Dini' works his magic on 'Batman'

By JEROME MAIDA

For the Daily News

Paul Dini has been linked to DC's famed Dark Knight Detective ever since his work on "Batman: The Animated Series," a show Batman fans have long felt was closer to the ideal Batman than either the movies (CBB- except Batman Begins) or his recent comics.

So when it was announced that Dini would be taking the writing reins on "Detective Comics" with No. 821, expectations were high.
Consider those expectations met.

Dini's first issue hits the Bats-eye, for various reasons.

First, he seems to be putting an emphasis on the aspect of Batman as the World's Greatest Detective, which many writers seem to ignore. Yes, his Batman is still a driven, hard-nosed vigilante, but he is also brilliant.
Dini plans on emphasizing mysteries and secrets - beginning with this issue's crime spree targeting members of Gotham City's society - to test the character's mind as well as his mettle.

Second, and perhaps more important, this issue has Dini giving us more Bruce Wayne right off the... um, bat. This humanizes the character and offers a nice contrast to his alter ego. Plus, his suave and debonair Wayne is just plain fun. "Sometimes I forget I'm a part of this world, too," says Wayne. So do many writers. Dini doesn't and it is to everyone's benefit.
Also, while Dini will bring back favorites, he also plans on introducing new villains. As he has Batman say early on, "Our usual enemies give us an idea what to expect. This is someone we don't know."

Exactly, and it is that freshness that makes Dini's take cool. Add in the fact that Dini will be concentrating on self-contained, one-issue stories that are easily accessible to new readers and you have the perfect writer for the Dark Knight.

An exciting run has just begun.

Yeah, me too.

Although , I wasn't exactly expecting it to be like HUSH per se.......but just more traditional. Ya know, same 'ol same 'ol, bussiness as usal type of thing. Jimmy, Perry, Lois being her same crazy reporter self...Clark. Maybe a Lex cameo, or a Metallo cameo......****....anything really. I just wanted whatever that happened to be cool with Lee's art.

Lee's interpretations of the superman cast wouldve been great. instead...we got a boring story

All joking aside, For Tomorrow was great, and if you don't see that, you're either stupid or... no, you're just stupid.

I found it's best read alltogether. The frist time I read it, it was in fact boring, but on the second reading, it really was a good read.

I loved it monthly, too. I have yet to read something that has me wanting the next issue as For Tomorrow did.

So were getting a new Joker.
Some of the worst news out of Comic-Con so far.

Trust me, it wont last long.

On the flipside, these are the things that happen when you have Morrison write mainstream titles.

He does seem to be trying to shake things up, new Joker, Batman's kid, Bats telling jokes, should be interesting. Maybe not good, but interesting.

Okay, I must have missed something. I gotta go track down this info from SDCC. Stupid snooty posters who post things from ComicCon and think that everyone knows about it already... *grumble, grumble*.....

Welp, aren't you just so brilliant for creating that thread.... ;)

Thanks.

There is no way that can be permanent... I hope not anyway. I'm interested in seeing the "Joker origin" story they talked about, hopefully that's good. I highly doubt a new Joker will bring as much to the table as the old one could. I'm interested to see where they go with this.

BATMAN #655

PLOT:
Bruce, Tim, and Alfred decide its tiem for a vacation. While Tim heads for the mountains, Bruce and Alfred head to London where Talia has kidnapped Kirk Langstrom and his wife and a little boy watch over Bruce. At the end, whats the plan for all the Man-Bats?

REVIEW:
While Dini's run was the run people couldn't wait for, I couldn't wait for this "Batman & Son" arc. The reason why was because the son, which of course is the kid in the book, is from an elseworld story and seen in the most loved Kingdom Come book. With the DCU changed for the better and for hope, the idea of Batman having a son wouldn't be on everyone's mind but its interesting. Of course, the funny part is that if Catwoman's daughter, Helena, is Bruce's also, then that would make Bruce a man-****e.

The only thing from this issue that wasn't clear and couldn't make out is that while we learned Batman at the beginning wasn't him an a crazed ex-cop, was the Joker really shot by his gun and is he dead? I feel I have to talk about this before I discuss the rest of the issue. Okay, is he dead? It did look that way but he can't be. Would you want the Joker gone? No. After he was "supposely" shot, when the real Batman carried him, he was still alive when he made a sound. Then when Robin came in and said that the story is all over that Joker was dead, Bruce said they should keep it that way.

So what happened was that the ex-cop may have fired the gun but was either blank and Batman hit the Joker with something that knocked him out, or he fired a knockout round and didn't know it thank to Batman. Afterwards, with all the bad guys locked up, Batman decides to take the vacation and make sure the word got out that Joker was "dead" so people would be fine when he was gone. Thats I think happened.

Lets continue: Alfred in this story is trying to get Bruce Wayne into the light as much as Bruce himself wants to. But sometimes we can see his old ways trying to sneak back in as when he thought he saw Killer Croc but it was a guy in a green jacket. If he was like before, he may have thought to stay and check things out. But now, he wants to get out from the darkness.

Talia and the kid appear but we don't what they want to gain. The kid is in the shadows and I wonder if its because he may look like Bruce during that age and saving the shock factor from us that Batman will get later. But what do they want with the Man-Bats? Who are ninja Man-Bats. We don't know yet. I wonder if its a plan within another plan. We'll see.

Overall, this was the start to an interesting arc. The Joker part was difficult to get but I think we figured it out. Anyway, can't wait for the next one.

RATING: 7.5/10

To me the Joker situation wasn't too confusing. He did get shot in the face, but he is still alive. A policeman tells Batman who then continues to throw him in a trashcan. As for my thoughts on the comic I did like it except I do have some issues. First I didn't like how a normal cop could do anything to the Joker. Also if Bruce has been off for a year why does he need a vacation already? It is a nice start, I just hope Grant can keep himself undercontrol. In Wizard 178 he admits to his imagination flying off the handle and he better have a good story for those ninja bats. In Asylum and Gothic he was running borderline, yet they were good, hope he can keep that trend here. As for Kubert's work it is excellent. I really have loved his style. One of my first Bat comics was Batman vs. Predator and it is still is my favorite Batman drawings. So for this issue I rate it a 7 out of 10.

I liked it a lot. The Joker thing seemed pretty easy to follow. I think they even said Joker was still alive, though Bruce prefers the rumors that he's dead to help quell the public's concern about him. As for Bruce going on vacation after being gone for a year, I think it's a combination of him finally making Gotham safe enough to leave for a few days, the fact that he needs to get back in the habit of performing as his Bruce Wayne persona and finally, it's a plot device to move the story along and have him end up in Europe where he'll encounter the ninja Man-Bats and eventually his son. I like the art a lot. Kubert's art is very similar to Jim Lee's, just not quite as exagerrated. All-in-all is was a really fun read. I'm looking forward to the rest of Morrison's run.
