Batman R.I.P.

Batman #677, came out today.

I stand corrected.

Yes, they know Bruce is Batman. That's why I somehow doubt that reporter guys stories. Seems to me that they're not only trying to torture and kill Batman, but destroy Bruce Wayne in the eye of the public while they're at it. Although at this point, I think Morrison is insane enough to have Thomas Wayne be the Black Glove, still alive, coked up, and having put a hit out on his junkie, cheating wife who had a bastard son with the butler, and then faked his own death.
I still believe it still won't go down like that. I really don't.

Yeah the thing with Alfred and Bruce's parents is pretty much the Black Glove trying to screw with Batman/Bruce and ruin him mentally as well.

As much as it seems overly sensational and a little bit cheap, I kinda like the idea that Batmans parents were darstardly characters, junkies, liars and possibly murderers. It makes what he's doing all the more tragic and yet heroic. You want to feel sorry for him.

I'm not gonna rail against this just yet.

Oh I dont either. But I'm just gonna say, if it did happen, or of at least part of that report ended up being true (maybe Thomas did get a mad on when drunk who knows) I wouldn't be all that shocked, knowing Morrison.

That's what I was thinking--I thought comics didn't come out until tomorrow.

My store got all but 2 boxes of comics in today. And those were supposed to be there, they were just lost by my towns terrible FedEX. Anybody want to know what happens in Final Crisis #1? I'll give you a hint. Absolutely f**king nothing.

It's not like it's out of context or anything. It literally cuts to that right in the middle of a conversation between Bruce and Jezebel, then after that, cuts right back. You're not ruining anything by reading it here first.

I'm abit disappointed if the Alfred thing turns out to be real, if he knows that Bruce is his son then it kinda alters his motivation to help Bruce Wayne, and i always liked the idea he used to be a Agent or somesort, but an actor yeah. :( Its kinda disappointing for me, but hey the news report is most likely false and just trying to **** up Bruce's mind.

i'm hoping it is more complex than that. i really want this to be a red-herring.

otherwise, it's another lazy "everything you know is a lie" plot turn.

disapointing.

Hey its just the 2nd chapter of the RIP storyline, don't get disappointed so easily! :P :)

yeah. it would suck.

But I still think it's obvious: Bruce Wayne is the Black Glove.

But that's lame too, because it's the same as in "The Untold Legends of the Batman"

I also think that a "Thomas Wayne" will in fact appear to destory Batman's mind even more but he won't be the real one. Maybe Clayface, a clone, an actor or something like that.

god damnit i haven't even gotten batman #676 yet... ugggghhh

Does the stuff going on in this story sound blasphemous to anybody other than me? Alfred an actor? The Waynes murderers? Thomas Wayne NOT DEAD?!

Come on!

This just sounds insane - I'll have to pick this up when I happen into Dallas next week.

Exactly. It sounds blasphemous. And I think that's pretty much the point Morrison's trying to make... The Black Glove wants Bruce to go insane by thinking everything and everyone around him all of his life has been a lie, when in fact, it hasn't.

At least, I hope it hasn't.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. If Thomas Wayne isn't dead then I think it's safe to say that R.I.P. will stand for 'Retcon Is Probable'.

That said, I'm pretty intrigued to see where this story goes. I wasn't feeling Morrison's run at first, but I'm liking the whodunit element of this story so far.

Just to throw out a thoughts I had while reading #677:

1. Dr. Hurt said "our boy" when referring to Bruce while he was bragging about knowing Batman's weakness. An idiomatic expression or a hint of something more? (Could Dr. Hurt be Dr. Wayne?)

2. Dr. Hurt mentioned a chemical being used to help trigger the hypnotic signal he left in Batman years ago, and said that it was on the blade of the gargoyle thug that Batman beat up in the opening panels. I didn't see that the henchman had any blade--and GCPD didn't pick on up when the dragged the body away--but I did see Alfred dressing Bruce's wound with a chemical. Hmm....

3. Jet mentions that only Bruce Wayne could know Batman's weaknesses so well, but last issue Alfred gave a pretty good psychoanalysis of Bruce to Tim. Hmm...

4. Also, Bruce mentioned how he feels like he and Jet were meant to meet in London (back in #655, I believe). And who talked Bruce into going to London and then spent the night reading sordid books in the car? Alfred. Hmm...

You heard it here first: Alfred is the Black Glove. Or maybe he isn't. But either way my guess has been preserved here for internet posterity.

instead of killing batman, RIP seems to kill the REASON bruce wayne became batman. if his past is a lie, what has bruce lived his life for? im liking this a lot. but dont mess with alfred please morrison

All I know is the Alex covers are awesome to this story. I just hope it is not another thing like Knightfall, even though in that he didn't 'die', where he supposedly dies but doesn't then goes away for a while then comes back. That crap's old and Batman deserves better. All the "dying" stories need to stop for good. Kill those stories not the characters. Enough of cheap event stories like this, just do good stories.

I'm loving this story so far. It's filled with intrigue!

I can't believe how utterly, utterly GOOD this is. The thing with Damian sucked. But the way things are going with this, it could turn out to be one of the most epic bat adventures ever. The way Jezebel was putting things in to perspective was crazy. The only thing I don't like about this run so far is her name. This is great so far. If
Dr. Hurt turns out to be Thomas Wayne though, I might be pissed. The way they were alluding to Bruce being "his boy", and how "no one knew him like he did".
Still, this is REALLY dope so far.

I agree that all this is just to mess with Bruce's head. I dont think anyone on this planet is crazy enough to completely rape Batmans origin like that, its such a beautiful, operatic origin.

If by some small chance, all this is true, it would make One More Day look like a pulitzer winner.

really enjoyed this one. it was pretty cool how we got a "tour" of the batcave. but i hope all of this is just to screw with bruce's head.

is it necessary to buy all 20 issues to understand the story like the resurrection of ra's? thats a lot of money lol, if i just bought the batman one would i be ok? i already get detective anyway
