Batman R.I.P.

Can I just say that Morrison is doing a horrible job?

I think another question we should be asking about now is; who will kill him?

I hope not, either way if true I'm done collection bat-comics. :cmad:

I am right there with you. If they kill off Bruce Wayne, I am done with Batman Comics!!! I use comics as a source of release and as a brief distraction from normal life, and for them to do something like this will totally put me off from collecting Batman related titles. Bruce Wayne is Batman nuff said!

I have never had a complaint about Morrison, I think he does a fantastic job, but if the rumors are true and he is the writer that gets to kill of Bruce Wayne, then........ :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

I don't know why, in a year when they're going to make a bomb out of Dark Knight, DC would kill the character of Bruce Wayne... I know in the cross-promotion sense they can get huge publicicty for the book to tie in with the film, but...
What about the kids who see DK and then decide to try the comics only to find... Batman isn't the same bloke he is in the movies?

Doens't make sense to me.

And, also, may I add my voice to the disenchantment with Morrisson's run on Batman. He can write Batman, and has done a fine job in the past. But the **** he's churning out lately is so contrived and forced as to suck the joy out of buying and reading comics about a character I love.

I'm not a massive fan-boy and don't read anything like interviews with the writers, so I don't know if he's explained his motivation for this current run or what he's trying to achieve, but... frankly... I'm not enjoying it. As a longtime reader of comics and a rabid bat-fan.

I know it's one man's opinion, but I'm looking forward to the end of his run.

You don't seriously believe that an event like killing off Batman or Bruce Wayne would be permanent? For like, more than three months?

I think this will probaby be a R.I.P to Bruce Wayne being Batman...not Bruce dying. "Batman" will die, but Bruce will still be alive. I think Bruce is either going to do something he never said he would (like kill Joker) then give up being Batman for a while and do some self reflection blah blah blah or he'll see something that makes him rethink being Batman for a while.

How many comics feature origin stories for Batman? Different origin stories?

Compare that number to how many of them have death stories...... Guys, seriously. Just because one arc shows a possible death of Batman for the endless variations of Batman's beginnings doesn't mean it's going to be the end all of batman comics.

I highly doubt that they will kill off Batman, but Im sure since its Morrison we are in for a big shock.

I agree, Morrison is certainly from a very post-modern/Deconstructionist school of comic-book writing. While I think Batman works best while actively downplaying the more fantasy/sci-fi aspects of the medium (I guess I'm quite the Nolanite) I think Grants off the wall approach of toying with the medium, starting way back with Doom Patrol and Animal Man, certainly has its place, even for Batman. While I can't say his run so far has been far from the high art both Batman stories and Grant's writing are capable of, he does kind of have me at the edge of my seat, waiting to see what's gonna happen next, and that's freshness you rarely gets with any medium.
Up to this point I can certainly see how anyone might call Grant's run haphazard and undirected, but I think he's been deliberately setting up a lot of things to build toward this point, and I think it will pay off. Frankly, I never trust the guy, I don't think Batman R.I.P. really means what he wants you to think it does, but if they do kill off Bruce or retire him, I think there will be a lot more to it than just a publicity scheme like the death of superman or any of the myriad deaths that have happened since, and if that is the case, the character is some 70 years old, he's not going away that easy.
I think with the Batmen (a very cool a spooky concept) and all this craziness with Batmite and batman revisiting his past, and Ras and the Joker at large and Damien being around, you have a lot of very weird wild cards to play and I think he'll play them well. It's definitely a roller coaster ride, and if it turns out crappy, give it time and it will fade out of continuity and into obscurity.

Marvel kills Cap and it's a huge hit...

DC aims the the gun at Batman...

Hmmm.

oh come on, this is hardly a new thing. I guess the fact the Superman bit it 15 years ago and nobody remembers how big that was is proof enough that Batman dying don't mean crap

I dunno, I still think there's slick maneuvering to make Bruce a New God. I'm down with it, if the powers that be would just fess up and quit all these swerves.

It does to me. :cmad:

I think Bruce is either going to do something he never said he would (like kill Joker)

That would be even worse - not only will Bruce Wayne no longer be Batman, but the greatest Comic Book villain of all time will be killed as well!
I hope that Bruce does not die, and and i dont want any major characters/villains to die either.

Superman biting it was huge.

well if Morrison reads this i want you to know.... If you kill Batman you kill apart of me. bruce wayne IS Batman if he dies at your hands i will never forgive you

Yeah. But Cap's dead...really. Shot in the stomach and buried in Arctic waters.

I dont think Captain America will return - I think Steve Rogers is dead and will remain dead. However, in the case of Batman, if Bruce Wayne is killed i think DC will have to bring to him back in the future - Batman cannot continue without Bruce Wayne!

If they kill Bruce Wayne then DC is a floating duck. It's the most ridiculously stupid move i've ever heard of. When Superman died it re-invigorated the comics, brought them back to the fore. Kill Batman? It's suicide. No pun intended.

I'm in "lets wait and see" mode. It IS written by Grant "What the hell is he smoking" Morrison.

Also, watching all of those Superman historical documentaries that came out just before the release of Superman Returns, DC thought Superman was irrelevant and they felt he needed to die since no one was reading. Batman is more popular than ever now, I just don't believe that they would chop one of their biggest superheroes off the planet.
