Batman R.I.P.

The Devil fought The Batman and The Batman won

its a shame fanboys are too busy whining about bruce getting replaced to see that this story is a tribute to Bruce Wayne....

I also like how The Black Glove is essentially a metaphor for evil itself...people can complain about how there were no answers, but to me, its better that way. I dont need to know what the black glove is, because its already been answered for us...This story is literally about Bruce beating evil itself, imo...

An excellent ending. An entire arc dedicated to prep-time. I cannot express how much I enjoyed that. I loved the panel of Nightwing holding the cowl. Grayson for Batman in '09! Does anyone suppose Hurt really was the devil? Or perhaps just another Joker-like figure, appearing from nowhere and wreaking havoc.

Now to find out where Batman's gone.

I haven't been a fan of Morrison's run, but these last three issues were gold. Loved how Dr. Hurt and his henchmen put Bruce into his original Batsuit. Also have to admit Morrison wrote the Joker to near perfection, IMO. Loved how he has escaped Arkham and is now free to do whatever he ******* wants to. Also have to love the page with Dick holding the cowl. :woot:

The final line: "The Sad thing is they'd probably throw someone like Zorro in Arkham"

Zorro in Arkham
Zor in Ar
Zur-En-Arrh

for the most part i wasn't enjoy RIP, but this was a great issue. easy to follow, plenty of pages where Batman just kicks ass, and it even felt like they toned down the Joker and brought him back from a deranged psychopath to a master of havoc with a twisted sense of humor. i still don't see how this ending (which most of us predicted) is supposed to be this "epic, you-haven't-seen-Batman-like-this-before" change in the character that Morrison kept insisting it was going to be.

batman owning jezebel was priceless

Besides those two moments, enjoyed the opening with Bruce switching the cups in the blink of an eye.

Favorite panel:

I just realized that Morrison was foreshadowing Bruce being replaced by Dick Grayson in the Future Damien story from Batman & Son.

Morrison certainly knew how to give Bruce an ending. He went out doing what he's trained himself to do, stopping evil. That's who Batman is to me; someone who doesn't give up.

I wasn't enjoying Morrison's writing but he made Batman just too cool in this issue. His monologue about preparing for any situation was definitely a nice read.

Pretty awesome issue. Batman shows his badassness and owns everyone. Nice to see the Club of Heroes show up to help. While the issue is great, I was disappointed by the lack of any conclusive reveal about the Black Glove. Who the hell is Dr. Hurt? I really hope it will be explained in the next few issues....hopefully

Overall, 7.5/10 for this arc. Pretty enjoyable, the ending could have been better

Hurt says of the cape and cowl, "The next time you where it will be the last." Final Crisis takes place after RIP, and Final Crisis #6 is said to be the "final fate" of Batman. Not likely coincidence, I imagine.

Who else enjoyed the Joker's lines about how Batman was about to dig his way out of that grave and destroy them all? That was wonderful.

Is Final Crisis #7 going to be necessary to read, as well? Or do we just need to read #6?

Well if you just read six, you're going to be pretty lost. Final Crisis is just like any Morrison work; you can't read bits and pieces. I don't know if #7 will involve Batman, though. We'll have to wait and see.

If you haven't been reading Final Crisis, the New Gods--the evil ones, specifically--have come to Earth and are possessing human bodies (or new bodies they've built for themselves). In previous issues, Batman was beaten and captured by one of the New Gods who had possessed an Alpha Lantern, and was last seen hooked up to an unpleasant looking machine in their custody. Also, the anti-life equation has been released, and the entire planet and everyone on it--save for a few pockets of resistance--are under Darkseid's control.

yea, i'm aware, somewhat atleast, of what's going on in Final Crisis and actually read some of that issue in the store.

I forget, what's the chronology of RIP? Final Crisis #2, then RIP, then Final Crisis #6? Or does all of Final Crisis come after RIP?

dammit I had all these until a few days ago--but had to get rid of 'em :cmad:

It would take a lot for me to get rid of my comics, any of them. :p

All of Final Crisis after RIP, I believe.

Batman is the only DC comic that I read, and I know next to nothing about the other DC heroes. I really hope just reading the Batman titles will be enough

Yeah, it was. I loved how Joker was a step ahead of everybody in the last two issues.:hoboj:

What I'd like to know is if the Robin, Nightwing, and Outsiders tie-ins are meant to take place after FC #6, or if they're meant to take place between the end of RIP and FC.

For anyone who isn't in the loop, next up we have Grant Morrison's two-part story (both parts in the main Batman title) that is said to link RIP to FC. After that, Denny O'Neil's two parter (one issue of Detective and one issue of Batman) which is about Gotham without Batman, if I recall correctly. That's followed by Gaiman's two part "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader" (also one issue of Detective and one issue of Batman). At this time, Nightwing, Robin, and Birds of Prey will be canceled, Batman and Detective Comics will be on hiatus, and we'll instead get the "Battle for the Cowl" mini-series.

Then, if the universe is on my side, Dick will be Batman.
