Nope. His ears were covered. It's partly what made him look so goofy, and why they've been exposed ever since.

His ears were exposed in a lot of the promo art for the first Avengers movie, that might be what you remember. No idea why they went with the covered version though.

I just noticed by comparing pics that cowl looks much different in subsequent films, with chin straps in place of that blue material underneath and all that... I could have sworn that it was pretty much the same.

His ears were exposed in a lot of the promo art for the first Avengers movie, that might be what you remember. No idea why they went with the covered version though.

I'm pretty sure this is a first time I set my eyes on these "Avengers" promo arts and it's something I generally didn't follow (I actually saw the film two years after its release), so I don't think so... who knows how I got that idea...
