BvS Batman's Voice Thread

Honest to god the worst Batman moment I've ever seen in my entire life. I physically cringed.

I may just have to replay this scene every time I lament on the batvoice they've gone with for this film.

What kind of voice did you want? And don't say Conroy. Everyone who dies just makes me :whatever: And you honestly consider that the worst Batman moment you've seen in your life? I surely take it you haven't seen Batman Forever, or Batman and Robin ... among other more profound cringe worthy moments in the franchise.

Yeah, it's not just the voice, him spinning Bane like they were dancing tango rather clumsily and puckering his lips the way he did... it was indeed cringe worthy. Don't know how that take made it in the film, to be honest.

It's only encouraging that I'm warming up to it. It could have been worse. I just want the mechanical nature of the voice to be reduced. At least he sounds intelligible and when he's angry, I don't imagine it'll be as bad as when Baleman got angry and the voice became ridiculous.

Oh, it could most definitely be worse and I think it's miles better than Bale's voice in TDK and TDKR, so I can't really imagine it becoming that ridiculous. I do get you, I'd also still prefer a bit subtler and more natural-sounding voice, but I think that even if we don't end up loving it, we'll at least accept it and get used to it once we see the film.

Better than not having a Batvoice at all :( [YT]watch?v=dcukDDDhuYk[/YT]

I want a voice/performance that doesn't make out my favorite hero to be a loud, dumb brute. I don't have much criteria beyond obviously making him badass.

And you honestly consider that the worst Batman moment you've seen in your life?
Yes. Is there an advantage to lying about that?

I surely take it you haven't seen Batman Forever, or Batman and Robin ... among other more profound cringe worthy moments in the franchise.
Plenty of bad moments in the property. But they all fit tonally with their series. I've yet to see a scene which completely took me out the moment more than that.

Yeah Bale's Batman voice always caused a "LOL" reaction from the audience when I went to see all 3 films.

He could whisper like Keaton or raspy but not over the top Bale voice (Kinda like Batman Begins) if he doesn't have any better. This is voice belongs to a Transformer. Even Robocop didn't have such voice.

With that said, i don't think there will be cringeworthy moments with his voice like Bale had in TDK & TDKR.

I love the new voice. Absolutely love it.

I saw mention of Conroy. This won't make me very popular, but the last few times he's done the Bat he's been terrible. He was just going through the motions on Arkham Knight.

I wouldn't call him terrible, but he does sound rather monotone in "Arkham" games. Nowhere near his B:TAS days.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

I can't explain it but, I wasn't so bothered like usually by the voice in the clip Zack showed on Conan. Could be that it was somewhat in isolation?

Perhaps it's because you saw/heard it in context, the way it was meant to be seen/heard. :hmm

Thank you.

Like a lot of you guys, I grew up with Conroy. Knowing that AK was his last game and then getting the performance we got was disappointing. He was great in AA, and solid in AC. Just sucked going out on that low.

So I watched the latest clip through my home theater system and you guys are going to LOVE how the voice sounds in the theater. I mean, it has a lot of depth and bass in the voice. If it sounded that good on my home theater, I can only imagine what it will sound like in a real theater. The difference between listening to it on your computer speakers and listening to it in a theater setting are night and day. I think many people are going to absolutely love it.

Interesting... thanks for sharing this.

Now I need to get myself some new home theater speakers. Old ones ended up in some shady recording studio, never to be seen again. :hehe:

I hope you're right.

Did the same the other day and you're right. When you hear it in surround sound it sounds more deep than robotic like posters have been saying

I think the "DO YOU BLEED" voice is really dumb sounding when paired with the visual, unfortunately.

Bale's voice, while it certainly had its over the top moments, always at the very least went along with the visual to me. Even in the really over the top moments like "THIS CITY JUST SHOWED YOU" or "WHERE'ZTHETRIGGER", you could at least tell he was exasperated/out of breath. What he's doing performance-wise matches up, the level of expressiveness from behind the cowl, etc.

With the amount of modulation they have caked on here, it just looks like Affleck's mouth is moving and they dubbed in Megatron. Doesn't feel Batman-like at all to me, I thought it would grow on me but the more I watch the clip the less I like it. They should've saved that level of modulation for the armored suit only, IMO. Would've been a good way to give Armored Batman even more of his own flavor.

On the plus side, I do like the "I thought she was with you" delivery- I can hear Affleck there and it actually works. My guess is the voice will have its good moments and its bad moments, just like Bale's.

Well put.

What versions of Megatron are you all listening to that you think Batman's voice sounds anything like Megatron?

I think this "sounds like a robot" thing is really overblown.

Agreed. Sounds more demonic than anything else.

Well it is. You also know that's par for the course around here. I highly doubt, after it was such a point of contention with Bale, that they'll allow this Batman to sound bad consistently. I just don't believe that.

Bale wasn't even that bad, it's really two or three scenes that didn't work, out of a whole trilogy. That's not a big percentage. We've heard a handful of Affleck in costume, none of it sounds overly robotic other than just the words "tell me.."

Lol that's it, literally two words that even approach the realm of robotic IMO. But I suppose we'll just have to see how it is once this comes out, a novel idea to be sure smh...

Demonic sounding is what fear toxin Batman sounded like in BB.

It sounds robotic- at the very least technologically enhanced (which I thought was the point). Even on "You will", you can hear a phaser that's warping the high frequencies from what sounds like a natural Bat-whisper from Affleck into all this extra noise.

Now of course, we have to wait until the movie to give a final verdict on the voice. I'm curious to see how it's implemented throughout the film. But like I said, I suspect it will have its ups and downs if they're going to be toying with the level of the effects for different scenes/moments.

I can't believe that I didn't think to do this yet. Just tried it for the most recent TV spot of Supes' "warning" and the most recent full length trailer. Yes, it is a markedly different experience on home theater with surround sound! The nuances of Ben's voice all come through loud and clear. I think it sounds great, actually. I'm actually almost a bit hyped about it now.

I agree that the digitally masked Batvoice is going to come off really well in I-Max in Dolby surround sound, holy cats.

I did the same thing last night and you're totally right. The effect comes off so much better with surround sound (or even just an actual speaker system) compared to laptop/computer speaks. It also sounded pretty great when I listed through my DJ headphones.
