BvS Batman's Voice Thread

Looks at user name *dismissed*

LOL serious ownage, anyway this bat voice is great, just how i wanted it to sound. Great job by Afleck and Synder. Not too much growl and not too much modulation, just about sits inbetween.

Ultimately would I have preferred the voice without the modulation: sure, but I'm not bothered by it one bit.

I got my wish. :D The modulated voice is not just for the mech-suit. When he says "It's time you learn what it means to be a man." It has a little distortion to it, not robotic, but more like a demon. 2 or 3 layers of voices, one his original and one slightly lower pitch - that makes that distortion. Same way you make the Venom voice. I love it.

The only saving grace for me at this point is that if it's modulated, it's mechanical, which means it can be turned off.

I pray for dialog-heavy scenes with known associates, that's the case.

^ I'm hoping that in response to the trailer, they ease up on the electronics. I'd rather hear a slightly awkward performance than one drowned out in robotics.

I like the voice changer opposed to the smoker's voice.

Certainly possible. Nolan did it with Bane.

I don't know if the reaction this time around is all that big, though. I've seen far more complaints about the spoilers and CGI.

For anyone who still needs convincing that Batman does indeed use a voice modulator:Batvoice clips complation

You can tell the difference between him in the Mech suit and his regular costume. The Mech suit voice kinda echoes imo

So does the regular costume with the echos. The problem is sound editing and your own speakers.

Yeah, normal suit sounds slightly less modulated, but I think they're both really similar.

Overall, I REALLY like Batman's new voice. For the first time, he actually sounds unnatural, like a monster. It really fits with how intimidating Batman looks in this universe.

I had my headphones in and it stands out more in the mech suit then it does without it but yeah you're right, it does have echoes

Great point about Batman being a scary creature of the dark. IIRC in Frank Miller's TDKR the talking heads on TV go on a bit about whether he's just an urban legend or not. (And TDKR is a major inspiration for this Batman.) Lex says in his recent interview something to the effect that Batman uses smoke and mirrors. It sounds like there a kind of murkiness to him in BvS, he's sort of ill defined in the shadows of Gotham and the mech-voice may enhance the mystery.

Your post just made me even more hyped for BvS. Can't wait to unravel the mystery of the The Batman come 3/25/16. :woot:

And there's also the new tv spot "This may be the only thing I do that matters." Almost sounds like Batman is a forgotten myth in Gotham at this point. Or maybe he's referring to himself as coming out of the shadows and making his presence known to the world.

I took it as a solemn admission that Batman, for all his years in operation, made no effective change in Gotham's downtrodden state.

He probably sees stopping Superman as something which would have huge implications for the world moving forward. His life would have finally found purpose.

That's almost... Kinda sad. Damn. I feel bad for Bruce.

i can't wait to see the full movie to make an informed decision of my opinion on his voice!

Yes, and this gels perfectly with what Snyder himself recently stated in Empire Magazine.

We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: ‘I’ve been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.’ In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn’t matter. He's having a crisis of conscience. 'Am I really just a vigilante who stalks the alleys of Gotham?'...

This is really my only serious issue right now with Affleck's version of the character. I am extremely hopeful that the modulated voice is less overbearing and more subtle in the actual film, because it sounds silly in the trailer and sticks out like a sore thumb.

My exact same worries too.

Both Bane and Kylo Ren, with clearly modulated voices in their movies, sounded unintelligible half of the time. Affleck's voice from the trailers hasn't been as bad but I know I'll have to do a 'double take' with his voice in the cinema in order to catch what he says.

I didn't mind it with Kylo Ren at all, it makes sense because the dude is wearing a helmet covering his entire face.

Is it really so much to ask to let the actor actually perform and come up with the character's voice without drowning it in an overpowering vocal filter?

I'd be fine with a modulated voice in the mech suit. I'd prefer his "real" voice when wearing his regular costume.
