Ok, this was being discussed a little bit over in the GTA IV thread, but I think it's an interesting enough subject that spans enough games to warrant it's own thread. So...Who do you like the most?

I have to pick Tommy. His complete confidence, and lack of remorse really does it for me. He never once stopped to question what he was doing, or whether or not he could pull it off. His attitude was always "Ok, this is what I'm gonna do, and I'm going to kill anyone who gets in my way." And I like that.

Niko would be in a close second for me, as he's the most emotionally deep.

Then Claude from GTA III, as he was a no nonsense kind of guy, but loses points on being mute, therefore having no real personality.

Then it would be Tony Cipriani, he was cool in GTA III and in what I played of LCS.

The Vince Vance, even though I never even played Vice City Stories.

Then GTA II's version of Claude.

Then the un-named character from GTA.

Then the un-named chracter from GTA: London.

Then any other character they may use in future installments of GTA.

Then that whiney hypocrite CJ.

Niko's really growing on me. I like him a lot. I think he's turning out to be my favorite. Second would be Tommy Vercetti. Then Claude, then CJ, Toni and Victor. I didn't hate CJ, but I find it funny that he's the main character and even he got upstaged by the huge vast space of San Andreas.

niko easy. tommy second. but niko, just for his facial expressions alone.

I do have to say, Niko is VERY close to Tommy with me, if only for "Yellow Caaar!" and "MISTER MAAAAAN!" when he's trying to hail a cab while drunk. And I do like how conflicted he is about things, it's like what they were trying for with CJ, but done WELL. I actually feel for his internal struggles. But Tommy is just SO cool. He was perfect in every way, attitude, look, clothing choices, and especially voice acting. Ray Liotta is the f**king man.

After beating GTA IV this morning, I can safely say that Niko is my favorite of the main characters.

Haha Niko drunkingly yelling for a taxi is probably my favorite thing in the game.

For me Tommy and Niko are tied for the top, but for very different reasons. I loved Tommy's badass personality, his take charge and no nonsense attitude was great. He was a wise ass and a jerk but he knew what had to be done and wouldn't let anyone stand in his way. I would love a sequel to Vice City where we see Tommy in some form, he should still be running the place.

Niko is great. He's deep and loyal. I love his family element. Like you said, it's what they were trying to do with CJ but failed. When Roman is [blackout] kidnapped[/blackout] and Niko is in the warehouse and screaming "No one ****s with my family!" and "I'm not leaving here without Roman!" It really had a lot of emotion to it. I also love his slightly confused but very sarcastic attitude. Especially when interacting with the Random Characters. Marnie especially, you can see that Niko is really a nice guy who just has to do bad things.

Than Claude, because GTA3 was such an awesome game.

I don't really care for the two Stories games.

And CJ is at the bottom. I really didn't like San Andreas, it felt like a joke. Both when I first beat it when it came out, and recently before GTAIV when I tried to play them all, I could not get into it. It's nice that they tried something different, but I'm glad they pulled back for IV and made a much better game.

Niko by a LARGE margin. Iv really never cared for any of the characters in the GTA series. Tommy Vercetti was just annoying(loved Liotta in the part tho). Niko tho, i actually wanna see that dude get what he wants.

Niko's popular, I like him the most as well. Second was CJ from San Andreas, but after opening up all the cities, I stopped playing so maybe I didn't get to the "hypocrisy" of his character. I like the characters that have consciences most, as they're more relatable to me.

I hated Vercetti. He was a *****e.

CJ was such an unlike-able tool. I hated all of his sterotyped black reactions too, like saying "Yeah!" and "Aiight" a lot, it was like every other word.

SA feels so out of place.

The hypocrisy is there from the start.

"Those purple wearing fools are ruining our hood with their drugs! Hey, Big Smoke, and all my other drug using friends and relatives! Let's go show these guys what's up, and make the neighborhood a safer place for kids by MURDERING them in large scale gang wars that surely wont kill any innocent bystanders!"

Eh, it's GTA, so they're all going to be criminals. Even Niko is a hired gun for the most part.

I honestly don't even remember what happened in the story after CJ went off into the woods. It just wasn't as memorable as Vice City and GTA3. I just know eventually this kid from the hood at one point snuck onto a military boat and jacked a fighter jet. Cause that's at all logical.

SA wasn't very good and CJ was a very un-interesting character. "Word, I'm trying to save the Grove, Yeah! Let's roll."

Of GTA characters, Niko is the best. He's the most responsible. The others are as stated either hypocrites or lunatics.

I didn't think Tommy was a hypocrite or a lunatic...

This is a good thread. Man, it's hard to decide between Niko and Tommy. Both characters are very badass.

Well, in terms of story, I'd have to go with Niko, he's a very deep character.

In terms of just badassness, I'd have to go with Tommy Vercetti, plus he was voiced by Ray Liotta, so that's a plus.

Well, on my list, I have Niko and Tommy tied for the top spot.

Niko was involved with war and kills people that deserve to die. You even have the choice of sparing those who might have a reason to live.

Tommy just enjoyed killing.

He only killed people who pissed him off or double crossed him and he was always in control. He may be a sociopath but he isn't a lunatic.

Who do you guys find to be the best villain of the games?
