Transformers Bay's look and feel for Transformers (pics)...

It's all easier to take if you just look at it as Bay's TF. Which it is. It's HIS TF. He's going to have his name on EVERYTHING because it's his version of TF. I bet his name will even be on toy packages under the TF banner. I guess what I'm trying to say is with the flames and such Bay went EXTREME! He's making this a hot rod action movie, which is what he thought would be badass. This whole thing reminds me of the Loonatics thing. Remember that? EXTREME!

I'm only half-way joking, the similarities are scary. :csad:

Wow. I never even heard of them. Must have completely gone over my daughter's radar (Thanks Nickelodeon). At first glance I thought it was a new take on Animaniacs (which was great!)... but looks more like it wants to be Teen Titans (which is also great IMO).

Is (was?) it good?

But yeah... just reading about it.... the similarities to "Bay's Transformers" is evident.

Well, when it first came about they looked all evil and sleek, and people complained like hell, so it was taken back to the drawing board and they gave them big round eyes, and round designs.

Here's how they looked before people rioted:

Also, their names were at first the same as old, but then they were changed to future-names like Buzz Bunny.

As for the flames, I don't like them so I'm not going to stick up for them. But it just seems an unnecessary antagonist IF they are simultaneously caving in other areas.
Not if they announce Peter Cullen MONTHS earlier than every other voice actor.

Let's face it, there'll be satire concerning Flame Prime but the toy will sell anyway. It's not like Bay will be out of pocket on that score. Plus he gets his eXtreme Prime on celluloid.

I doubt he made The Island thinking it would bomb and I doubt he concocted Flame Prime thinking it would hurt the movie either.

The simple fact is that they're not going to change everything about the movie which they think we don't like, and Prime's colour scheme isn't one of the dealbreaker's as far as the PTB are concerned (probably not where the fans are concerned either).

I agree with you... but this is just one symptom in what appears to be an OVERALL serious dumbing down of the mythos and general vibe.
Unfortunately.

Although personally I think there's a lack of respect rather a desire to dumb it down. There's a certain group of people who don't realise how widely recognised characters like Prime are, or just don't care. It's a huge production so it's inevitable really. So many faces/opinions on the team.

A few hangers on aswell. People who're better served screwing up Superman remakes and counting pennies rather than touching a franchise they know **** all about.

Urgh. Anyway, I think it'll be a cool movie regardless of these types and not because of them. Except for Bay maybe. I'll probably like and dislike certain aspects of the movie because of him. It's still the movie I'm most looking forward to in 2007 (along with Spiderman 3). :ninja:

It's called feedback. Some of it is eye-wateringly painful to read but in general it's useful (hence the existence of early screenings).

You say you'd prefer to keep quite about Megatron but changes have occured because people spoke up. Possibly for Megatron himself but certainly for other characters.

feedback???
How do you know fan whining is what is making changes on this film????

No, you missed my point. You clearly focused on the Batmobile point and coincidentally missed the meat of the quote. Let me repeat it for you and make your life easier

That’s exactly the tension I’m talking about. It’s something I find very interesting. Because to me, being faithful to the character in the story is not about slavishly following a particular treatment of one comic or graphic novel — it’s about distilling the essence of the myth.

I've heard similar quotes from other writers and directors these days. It sounds like a stealthy swipe at Raimi for his SM films. The whole source material argument is a simple one despite so many attempts to complicate it. It all comes down to how the writers and directors feel about the source material, or in other words: Are you a fan or not? By fan I mean "real" fan, not a "yeah I'm familiar with a couple of books and a few animated episodes. Do you share the fans enthusiasm? Odds are if you don't the kind of film you're going to make is obvious and so predictable it isn't funny. If you're a real fan you share the same enthusiasm for the source material as the fans. You more importantly have the same emotional investment as the fans. The kind of film your going to make will bear a much closer resemblance to the source material and thus the fans vision of said source mateial (duh!). Certain circumstances (studio interference, budget) will no doubt affect the overall outcome. The difference in quality between the two outcomes is blatantly obvious.

[sarcasm]

Boy that Sam Raimi, what was he ever thinking make such a film that slavishly followed the source material (yeah I know +/- a few changes here and there). He should have distilled the essence of SM and given us a fresh new take on the character. He should have gone the urban commandp route. After Peter's uncle is slain by a burglar, he takes up the mantle of revenge. Fashioning himself a costume anD homemade gadgetry (grapple gun instead of webshooters, ninja claws, etc.) he patrols the caverns of NY as THE SPIDER-MAN.

[End sarcasm]
