Yes when you explain everything there is a lack of imagination.

You demystify the character and everything typically left to the imagination is spoon-fed to the audience at the expense of the character.

Is any Batman begins fan banned from this specific board?

Of course not, but most of the people in this section are Burtonites. Many of the Begins fans are in the TDK and Begins forums.

People who frequent this forum obviously will lean towards Burton's movies, because that's what much of the discussion here is.

"Michael Keaton Appreciation Thread"

"Favorite Prince Song"

"Danny Elfman"

"Sam Hamm's original script"

As a poster who's avoided those threads, you're being a bit biased. I saw this thread on the New Posts page.

As for the poll, people can be bigger fans of the Burton movies and still like Begins.

If this thread was posted in the Begins forums, there'd be a difference in the poll results. But it can't be posted there because that's for Begins discussion only. I'm not saying more people like Begins (I don't care, really), but it's like asking a Star Trek convention if they like Star Wars more. Where else would Burtonites discuss Batman89 and Returns?

No, the other movies have got it down just fine without devoting a full hour to it and still maintained to make a Batman movie.(A better one imho)

Dude, the movie was called Batman Begins, what did you expect?

A Year One origin that doesn't limit Bruce's extraordinary and multi-faceted training to several months of ninja camp during his mid-twenties.

Or maybe it's because this section is dedicated to the prior Batman films, would I start a "Best Michael Keaton line?" thread in the Begins section?

Sooner or later Batman Begins, will find itself as a Misc Batman Film.

I love Burton Bat-movies and I post all over the Batman Begins forum. And I can read Begins fans all over here too.

Or they can post against it, or at least comparing.

My point is they can vote freely on polls here not even having to post a message.

Oh?

Being miscellaneous (a mixture of different things) movies, BB fans still can have a quick look.

I'm not saying more people like Begins (I don't care, really), but it's like asking a Star Trek convention if they like Star Wars more. Where else would Burtonites discuss Batman89 and Returns?

This is no B89 convention. "Miscellaneous" groups all the movies, Burton's Schumacher's, Nolan's and 1960's ones.

Jesus, you must be the first person to complain that Begins didn't show enough training. God almighty, you crack me up.

After a bit of consideration, I had to give it to Batman '89. I just enjoyed it more. It remains one of my all time favorites. Firstly I like that we start off the film straight into the action instead of devoting an hour to the backstory. I liked how Batman is a very mysterious character. Guillermo Del Toro once said that films are beginning to lose all of the mystery, all of the fantasty, and most of all, all of the imagination. In '89, we don't need to know where the Batmobile came from, just that it's there. Don't get me wrong, I liked Begins but I didn't necessarily need to see Bruce spray painting a kevlar suit and forging bat-stars.

I also didn't think Batman Begins had any great villains, even though I prefer Falcone to Boss Grisham. Ra's was cool but didn't have much time. But The Joker was just awesome, the greatest comic book villain performance of all time IMO. Batman '89 felt like a grand action and adventure film while Batman Begins felt more like an informative character piece about a man who embraces what he must become. On a more mature level and dealing with certain themes, I certainly understand why critics prefer Batman Begins, but in the end, Batman '89 was the near perfect Batman film. I've watched it numerous times and don't plan to stop anytime soon. :)

The training scenes could have been cut in half and been better.

As long as it didn't imply that Bruce learned mostly everything from Ras Al Ghul during his mid-twenties. That's a half-assed explanation for how Batman became capable of being the greatest crime fighter and human superhero who ever lived.

Ra's Al Ghul, Hero Tutor of the year 2005. Why go with lesser rivals like Yoda or Splinter?

Batman Begins is like a video guide on How To Become Batman in Twelve Easy Steps. It removes all the mystery essential to the character. It's Nolan convincing himself that Batman could plausibly exist. For example, Nolan feels the need to explain the Batmobile, he thinks he needs to sell it to the audience. Wrong. The audience wants to see the Batmobile, the audience loves the Batmobile, the audience would be upset if we don't see the Batmobile.

Burton, on the other hand, understands that the mystery is part of the appeal of the character. He knows it's far more dramatic if the Batmobile just appears, without explanation, with all it's menace and mystery intact. Same with Batman.

great post man.

Batman Begins takes this, though I will always love Batman.

I watched Batman '89 three times in theaters, all three times it was awesome! But by the time it came out on VHS I didn't like it! There were people who said the film never had any sunlight, the day time shots looked dark. But two years later after seeing Batman Begins I still like it. I only reason I liked Batman Forever because Burton didn't direct it. Batman Returns was all shot on sounds stages it all looked fake. But now Nolan Batman's looks like he lives in the real world not a world full of rediculously large statues!

Man, this is such a hard decision for me to make. I grew up on B89, and I remember going to watch it in the theaters, and I've loved it ever since. As some of you have mentioned, this movie never gets old, and everytime I see it I enjoy it as much as the first time. As far as which one is more fun to watch, I'd say B89. As far as which one was written better, I'd say BB. I love BB, but if you sit down to watch it very often, the first half of the movie is pretty boring while Bruce's past is being explained. None the less, it was necessary and it was done really well. I mean, the first couple of times I watched BB, the entire movie was exciting start to finish, but after a while you just want to skip to the middle. After I see TDK though, I'm gonna go ahead and say that it will definitely be rated #1 in my book. I like Nolan's vision way better than Burton's. But hey, B89 had the Joker with Batman in action all the way through so.......ehhh, I'm not going to vote on this one, it's too close to call. I'm confident that Nolan will give us 3 superb Batman films when it's all said and done, with BB being only an introduction and setup to what will probably be the greatest films ever. If you're going to compare anything with B89, it should be TDK IMO.

TDK will probably be an utter failure.

You know, there are real cities with ridiculously lareg statues....

In a Batman movie????? How out of character.

I only reason I liked Batman Forever because Burton didn't direct it.

I have to say I'm scared at how easily you buy butt close-ups.

I don't see how Begins is a superior movie. Sure it's more coherent. But B89 has much better dialogue, a better villain plot, better action scenes, better production value, a better love interest and a tremendous score.

Dude, Amen to all of that.

Begins is more coherent and is a good film but it has some of that atrocious dialogue, which sounds all 'worthy' like the Spiderman films-'Why do we fall Bruce?'-WHATEVER. It can't beat 'Lieutenant they say he can't be killed, they say he drinks blood, they say-I say you're full of **** Knox and you can quote me on that', 'Never rub another man's rhubarb', 'This town needs an enema' (just thinking about those scenes makes me crack up). The sequence where Bruce's parents get killed in '89 is far more shocking and sad then in Begins and Nolan clearly had some issues making action sequences, which seem clunky and incoherent in Begins but which Burton seemed to pull off effortlessly and at a much earlier stage in his career. Hopefully Nolan will pull it off this time but for now Burton's Batman still rules supreme.

Hello, Vinny. It's your Uncle Bingo. Time to pay the check!

It's a movie. Do you think all movies are real?

He's right though. Returns does very much look like a soundstage, whereas the 1989 Batman was filmed on the Pinewood backlots and looks far more natural.

The Gotham featured in "Returns" looks very much like it takes place on an opera stage.

But that aspect actually appeals to me, bringing forth the operatic aspects of Burton's take on the character.

But yeah, Gotham City as featured in Returns doesn't have the true scope of a city at all...
