BBC's Spooks

I watched the last two episodes of this series and i'm somewhat hooked.

they way they have been treating harry has made it seem as if he hasn't signed on to continue for much longer in the show but may not necessarily be killed off for good.

it's a great show though

just under 2 hours till the new season...

Wow....wasn't expecting that...

Is Malcolm really gone? bit of a shock when he resigned...

Poor Ruth....

It's been a while since this was on.... forgot how rough they can get

The first two episodes were aces. Obviously not quite as epic as the start of Series 7, but definitely up to par. It's really nice to see Jo coming into greater focus. She's always been the most empathetic character, and she had some brilliant moments in episode 2.

Sad to see Malcolm go, but his exit made sense from a character standpoint. I'm not sure Tariq's introduction was handled as cleanly as it should have been, but he's a very likable character with a lot of potential and a good early rapport with Lucas.

Speaking of which, I have to give the show a lot of credit. I absolutely adored Adam and was devastated when he was killed. I wasn't sure how I'd handle a new main dude, but Lucas is f***ing awesome. He's a perfect combination of Adam's charm and Tom's brooding mystique. The Sarah Caulfield thing definitely feels like a retread of the Tom/Christine relationship, but I definitely see them taking in it a darker direction.

And lastly, I gotta say, I've been disappointed with Ros thus far. I thought she improved greatly as a character in Series 7, taking over for Adam. But the character feels a bit tired right now.

Okay.... just seen the epsiode that will air on Monday (Via BBC 3).... all i can say is

WHAT THE ****ING HELL?????????????:wow:

What a total and absolute ****ing waste.....

Wow. Who the hell saw that coming? The episode really wasn't that great, IMO, so I was expecting something big to happen at the end. But Jo dying? And by Ros's hands? Man.....

damn.... WTF is it with this show t leave me going WTF!!!!!

the CIA chick Lucas was banging chucked her boss down the ****ing building!!!:wow:

and when did they start chucking random bouts of nudity in Spooks?

There was nudity as far back as Season 2. But it was pretty random here.

What a great freaking episode. Such an improvement over last week's. I knew there was something off about Sarah, but good God. This chick is a HUGE problem.

Oooookay....

the plan behind Nightingale is to ignite a nuke war between Pakistan and India? ****ing hell!

Also, seen an article hinting at another main character being killed off.....and it named the possible victim.....

A masterpiece of an episode. It's episodes like this that remind me why Spooks is the best show on television.

Lucas is officially redeemed. After all that bull**** with Sarah last week, dude came through this week with a boatload of badassery.

This whole Nightingale story really hasn't been as compelling as the previous year's arc, but I'm curious to see how this unfolds. Looks epic.

I ****ing hate ****ing cliffhangers!!!!!!

Epi 8-

Not surprised Sarah got killed...... just surprised it took so long.

So.... any bets on who's dead and who survived? The yank is obviously dead.... but Roz? The Home Sect? Lucas?

Why did they focus on that shifty looking armed policeman near the end?

Those are good questions (if i can be so cocky to say so), but the main one i have now is....

WHEN THE **** IS THE NEXT EPISODE???????????

I'm 99% sure Ros is gone and Lucas is fine.

Sucks that this was how the season had to end, because we now we've got a LONG wait till the next. My thoughts on the series as a whole:

At the end of the day, I think this was a solid series, but it was a significant step down from Series 7. The biggest problem was the lack of a true team dynamic. Killing off Jo as early as they did really crippled the show, and I thought it was a mistake not to bring in a third officer.

Lucas and Ros are terrific characters, but the show became solely about them and them only. Some of Spooks best moments have come from the simple interactions and deliberations between characters, like during the Tom/Danny/Zoe days or the Adam seasons. The emptiness of the grid became glaringly noticeable and a tad bit unbelievable.

The Lucas and Sarah storyline was solidly written, but it was marred by a really mediocre performance by the actress who played Sarah. Their lack of true chemistry hurt the believability of the relationship between them. And since so much of the series was built upon their relationship, nearly everything else suffered. On the subject of Lucas, I thought he was marvelous in this series, and I think he will learn greatly from the mistakes he made. He needed to grow, and I think the Sarah conflict will catapult him to becoming a much stronger officer (and possibly Section Chief).

Ruth's return was great, though in some ways, I felt she was underutilized. Once again, this was a case of the team dynamic not being present. Ruth's best moments in the past were when she would clash with characters (like Tom and Ros) over viewpoints of particular issues. There really wasn't much of that this series, and I was surprised by how smooth her transition to working for Ros was. Then again, some of that credit goes to Ros maturing as a character.

Speaking of Ros, if this is the end for her, it's a sad farewell to a character who really blossomed as her time went on. She went from a backstabbing ice woman to a genuinely strong leader on the grid. Hermoine Norris's acting was absolutely impeccable during her time on the show, and her presence will be greatly missed. God bless the woman who has to replace her. Yikes.

Malcolm's departure and Tariq's introduction wasn't as effective of a transition as I was hoping for, but Tariq was immediately likable so that made things a bit easier. His rapport with Lucas was great, and I look forward to seeing him come into his own next series.

I thought it was interesting how much they scaled Harry back this year. In Series 7, it seemed like Harry took over as the new central focus (versus a field officer), but Series 8 seemed to be a return to Harry as pure overseer. Which, for me, is a good thing.

And lastly, the Nightingale storyline had a lot going for it, but I agree with others who have said the exposition was overly dense. I didn't feel the same sense of tension and mystery that came with the Sugarhorse plot from Series 7.

Overall, despite its faults, Series 8 was still very enjoyable. I mean, it is Spooks after all. It wasn't as strong as some series, but it sets up some really interesting developments for the future. *crossing fingers that there IS a future*

I saw an episode on PBS after Doctor Who. It was a season 3 episode.

A Prayer for My Daughter

First time i've watched a episode. I noticed the copyright was 2004. I did some research on wiki.

Man, three of the leads are either killed off or sent to Chile.

Fiona Carter
Danny
Nick

Zoe

Most of the leads get killed off.... or sent away. Harry is the only surviving main lead left

IIRC they've killed 9 leads over the show's lifespan.

I have season 1 in my netflix (heard great things about it) A&E used to air it

Watch it man it's a fantastic show, although i must admit that i though series 1 was a bit boring and the show really took off from series 2. Im quite shocked that theres not more people in this thread....

Season 1 is easily the weakest, but once you get through it....things get good.

Expect there to be a major influx of new faces this season. Max Brown, Sophia Myles, Iain Glen, Simon Russell Beale and Laila Rouass have all joined the cast as series regulars.

Word on the street is that Brown and Myles will be playing two new members of Section D. This falls in line with my prediction that Ros is dead and Lucas will be the new Section Chief.

If all these actors are playing characters who are spys in section D then good because i felt the team was abit undermaned last series.....
