BBC's Spooks

I did too, and it actually made it feel unrealistic. By season's end, you had Ros and Lucas doing EVERYTHING.

God's greatest gift to man is back. Thoughts on the Series 9 premiere:

Fantastic opener. Such a promising start to the season. A few things of note:

I thought it was refreshingly realistic to see the deaths starting to take their toll on Harry. With all of the officers who have come and gone, you finally got to see Harry reflect on the sheer body count that's built up around him. Double points for this being sparked by Ros's death, specifically. I really think Harry saw Ros as something of a daughter.

I really don't know what to make of the Lucas situation. Clearly, being thrust into the role of leader represents a new challenge for him, but now that his past is being put into question again I'm not sure I fully understand what they're trying to do with him. Though, it does offer a nice change of pace to have a Section Chief whose moral standing isn't so clear.

Nice to see Tariq still humming along. We still have no real sense of his character, though.

Ruth was outstanding as usual, and I'm glad to see they're digging deeper into the relationship. Again, Harry's proposal was sudden, yet realistic, and Ruth's hesitation was perfectly captured by Nicola.

One of the big concerns heading into the season had to be the introduction of Dmitri and Beth. But both shined admirably in their debuts. I would've liked to have seen Dmitri again after leaving the ship, but he came across as a strong, determined officer. A nice addition.

I love what Beth brings to the show. In many ways, she's the huge wildcard Ros was when she first arrived. But I loved her sense of humor, and she's already got a terrific chemistry with Lucas.

All in all, a rock solid first hour. A lot of questions to be answered, and it'll be interesting to see how the team comes together in their first operation as a unit. But the fact that we have an actual TEAM this year, and not the Ros and Lucas show of Series 8, leaves me a happy Spooks fan.

Wow.

Just wow.

So, just by chance Netflix recommended this series to me about a month ago. I didn't think much of it, since I hadn't heard of MI5 before, but I like a lot of thinks Britain related so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm a huge fan of 24 and this seemed liked something to get into since series is no longer on tv.

In one month I've watched the entire series and I am longing for season 10 to air.

I think it was after season four of 24 I told my ex wife that I though it would have been amazing if Jack Bauer could have taken his adventures overseas. Well, now I kinda see why there was no need to do that. MI5/Spooks fills that need.

Thanks Netflix.

Hells yeah.

I was disappointed by the ending of Series 9 and my anticipation for Series 10 is a bit tempered, but that doesn't overshadow the sheer brilliance of the show.

They're wrapping up the shoot. It'll air in the Fall.

So... what's the deal with the show's original name? Here in the U.S. it's named MI5.

Spooks just doesn't seem to fit the show's subject matter. That said, I like the Richard Armitage episodes.

The title is a popular colloquialism for spies, but the word has an old racial context here in the States. They used the phrase often in the first few seasons.

any news on season 10? who will be the main character?

any thoughts on the new series? saw that
the russian spy is harry's son,and that he had relations with therussian woman
coming from mile.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but seeing The Hobbit got me into Richard Armitage which has since led me to watching some of his previous work (I've seen series 1 of Strike Back, and North & South, and his 2 episodes of The Vicar of Dibley, Robin Hood will wait until after I'm done with this) and so I've been watching MI-5/Spooks (thank goodness for netflix) starting with the series he started in (7). I have to say I LOOOOOVVVVEEEE his character in 7 & 8 (though the actress playing Sarah in 8 needed a better dialect coach or something *TERRIBLE* American accent - her chemistry with Richard also wasn't that great). But 9 (which I'm almost done with... and yes, I already know what happens to his character) just has me really pissed off. It just feels like they wanted to try something new to get rid of a character (I'm assuming they haven't done this before, after I finish with 9 I'll go back and watch 1-6 and then 10... I know, weird order) and so decided to just butcher the characterization of this guy that we've all come to like, but yeah... not happy with 9

*sigh* but I guess what's done is done...I shall finish these last two episodes of 9 and then start from the beginning.

It is a good show though.... I'm kind of glad I'm watching it now with all the series available and so the cliffhangers don't leave me hanging for months while waiting for the new season to start and instead I can just go right into the next episodes.

I'm always hestitant when it comes to this genre with BBC...because they always feel cheap and low budget....is it the same with Spooks or is it an improvement from similiar shows in the past?

Spooks.....the movie!

being made right now

The plot sees MI5's Head of Counter-Terrorism Harry Pearce (Peter Firth) in deep when big bad Adam Qasim escapes and immediately sets about planning more atrocities. As Spooks fans will know, the penalty for that kind of blunder can be severe, especially with bureaucrats like Joint Intelligence Committee chief Oliver Mace (the returning Tim McInnerny) around. Which he is. "There's a reality to it, so it's got to land in a world that is real," director Bharat Nalluri explains of the set-up. "And the canvas is huge now."

Is Harry and co safe from the Deep Fat Fryer you may ask? Or will production company Kudos continue the series trademark of killing off its popular characters? Nalluri cautions, “It’s hard and it’s unsparing and certainly no-one in safe in the film. There’ll be lots of twists.”

Yes all hail Harry Pierce. Yay Jon Snow. I hope Tom Quinn comes back...

Spooks: The Greater Good – Official Trailer
[YT]/hHrizHJ8ObI[/YT]

Reminds me of a modern take on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

I see on IMDb The Greater Good currently only has a UK release date, does anyone know if it will eventually be released in the U.S.?

The film was very good. Lots of twists and turns. Tinker Tailor meets Bourne meets 24.
