Just realized that this line has been said to both of the Petrelli brothers.

FutureHiro tells Peter to "be the one we need" when he visits him on the subway.

Mrs. Petrelli tells Nathan to "be the one we need" in regards to her and Linderman's plan.

Yeah, I just saw the episode, and it shocked me to hear it. Could there be a reason the exact same line was used? Hiro or Mrs Petrelli said that knowing there was used before?

I doubt there's a literal reason for it. It's probably more symbolic than anything.

It might just be used to highlight the dichotomy of the two groups (or perhaps it's a bit of yin yang? each half encompassing an element of the other), but i don't believe it's random or coincidental.

I think it's more to do with the brotherly conflict. It's a nice plot point that each side requires a petrelli brother to complete their end game. They've always been conflicting characters so taken in that light it all makes perfect sense

matt has had some good or evil stuggles even b4 the future episode
sylar even just tried to become a good guy looking for help from his mom and mohinder

so it just seems like be the one we need is just the sign of how peter is the good guy and nathan is now the VILLAN! haha i love when hiro says that
