As the topic states, the only two titles of X-Men I've been reading are First Class & Astonishing. There are alot of books, stories, and titles invovling X-Men and I want to find out what else is out there for me to find out, read & get (not all in order).

So what other storylines are out there that would peek my interest? The only things that are on my mind that you could help me on are these things that happened in the X-Men comics: the modern arcs of Uncanny X-Men, anythign from New X-Men, and whatever invovling the Dark Phoenix (origin and all).

BTW, I'm very interested in the original X-Men as seen in First Class. Is there a story/book/etc that invovles the original X-Men like in that title or that the only one?

X-men First Class
X-men
Uncanny X-men
Astonishing X-men
X-factor(Don't read but heard its good)
New X Academy...

but If you need info go to uncannyxmen.net

Unfortunetly there's nowhere to read the original X-men as Jean is currently "dead". You may want to pick up Phoenix Endsong, bc it featured her resurrection and dismissal. All original X-men are there except for Iceman. The last place that the originals were together was Civil War X-men. It featured the original 4 men together. Most fans dont think its a good read and I could take or leave it myself.

As far as seeing the originals as seen in First Class, have you ever read X-men Hidden Years? It takes place after the original X-men series ended in the late 60s/early 70s and features the team at the time; Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast, Iceman, Polaris, and Havok. It ran for about 20 or so issues and has the teen vibe going on. You may want to pick that up. Other than that, the only other title close to what you are looking for that I would reccommend is Ultimate X-men, but only early stuff. The current writer, Kirkman, is making a mess of it, but if you read issues 1-65, you should be satisfied

You HAVE to pick up New X-Men. It really is great. Uncanny and X-Men are good - they are in middle of long arc's though (at least Uncanny is) and if you want to look at some beautiful art check out X-23: Target X limited series - wow.

For New X-Men, to start off it would be the E Is For Extinction arc, right? If so, well how far after that should I go? Because there are 7 TPBs, but in turn there are 3 HCs which, in turn again, there is one super-sized hardcover. But I don't want to get something that turns out to be something that I don't need. Keep in mind; the New X-Men I'm referring to is the one that was the X-Men title comic with the title changed into New X-Men and the arc that started with the title change was by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.

Since we're on that title comic, on the X-Men title comic, is there anything there I should look at getting? Because I checked and the first 7 issues in the first Trade "Mutant Genesis" wouldn't be on a list of mine but the issues after they changed it back from New X-Men would kinda be. Starting with the trade "Day of the Atom".

As for Uncanny, I"m mostly looking at either "Hope" or "The End of History" as the jumping on points. As for Hidden Years, I can't seem to find a TPB for that.

Now even now, it seems like TOO MUCH on what I may wanna get. As an alternate route, at what point in the future should I start getting the modern comics of X-Men and what title, number, should that be?

^Actually, I was talking about the "new" New X-men (the kids at the school with X-23, Hellion, etc.) By Kyle and Yost. Good stuff.

You should pick up the titles you like starting now and just go back if you like the stories, thats what I did when I started reading X-Men (again) about a year ago.

If you want to start my dear, then go back and hunt X-Men 1 and Uncanny X-Men 1 and start from the beginning, nothing better than that mate :p

And also, have in mind that First Class will soon dissapear from continuity and will be thoroughly forgotten, just like "The Children of the Atom" mini which ALSO tried to change the origin of the first X-Men. Those sort of minis end up being dissapointing and irrelevant as time goes by.

If you decide to read the "new" New X-Men, for god's sake, don't read New X-Men: Academy X first. The drastic switch in style and utter disrespect for main characters that occurs after the writers change will turn you hair white.

I still cry over what they did to those characters... :(

Dont bother reading anything about the Phoenix, its just a waste of time. It seems like they come out with mini after mini.

Phoenix Endsong, I actually liked.

they're okay, but god enough already. A phoenix rises from the ashes, it doesn't even seem that she's ashes yet, and here comes another mini.

That doesn't even star Jean, I heard:down

Its not Jean that bugs me its the damn Phoenix Force, give it a rest. Atleast a year before you do another mini.

I think the next one will come out this fall. IA on the PF though. Id rather Jean come back with her former power levels before Morrison boosted her up. She was working for 15 years fine without having to go back to the Phoenix stuff

Umm, I'm was referring to the storylines that had Jean becoming Phoenix for the first time.

I think someone should just list what I should get/read.

The original Phoenix story runs from Uncanny 101-137. The Dark Phoenix portion, from 129-137, is collected in the Dark Phoenix Saga TPB. The other issues are available in many collections, the most recent being the Essential X-Men series and the Uncanny X-Men omnibus.

The current arc in Uncanny stems from the recent miniseries Deadly Genesis, and it's about half done, but it's a huge arc and you might be better off waiting for the trade. X-Men is really good right now, but it's got a lot of B and C listers in it.

X-Factor is awesome. There's a few trades right now that you should absolutely pick up, along with the Madrox miniseries. It's the best X-Book out there right now.

Grant Morrison's New X-Men is pretty much the basis for what Whedon's doing, and I highly recommend it. The art, however, is inconsistent, to put it politely. It's available in three hardcovers, seven trades, and also in the outsized brick Marvel have labeled an omnibus.

To put it bluntly, the art changed every dozen issues, and it almost always sucked.

I thought it only sucked when drawn by Kordey. The issues by Quietly, Jiminez, Van Schiver, Silvestri, and Bachalo were good. Damn thats alot of artists

Okay then, when is that arc going to end so I can start on that title?

I'am looking at that title as well. Not as a "should I get it", more like "I WILL get it, its there on my list". Quietly's artwork, I've only (believe) seen his artwork from the only title I've been reading and that's All Star Superman. I've seen the covers, which look Quietly-like, and that must be his work and I'm fine with that.

That New X-Men Supersized hardcover collecting 114-the last issue before it became Uncanny again (again, I believe thats the case). how much do they cost?

I think either May or June

I dont know the cost but New X-men didnt become Uncanny. It just lost the New and went back to just being X-men with issue 157

I believe the omnibus is in the neighborhood of $100 USD. But it's really ugly.

X-Factor X-Factor! No X-Fan has an excuse not to be reading it....

What do you mean it's really ugly??? Ugly as in the price, or ugly as in it looks ugly? Cause I just bought it and i's supposed to come from Amazon any day.

Alright, since we're on New X-Men, I think it's one of the most crazy and gutsy runs in history, and I absolutely loved it! It only costs around $60 on Amazon, and it's one of the best buys I could think of. I have the first hardcover, which you can still get, but the 2nd and 3rd are out of print - hence the Omnibus. Buying it in 7 trades is okay, but that'll cost you at least $70 at $10 a trade - which I'm not sure if you can even find it that low. My recommendation - get Omnibus. I will verify how good it actually is when I get it tomorrow.
