I just got back from a trip to Scotland and Ireland with my wife. We are both british and found said destinations to be very welcoming of us....we are loved everywhere i guess.

I saw Ed Byrne on Graham Norton and thought he was hilarious. It wasn't a stand up bit though, so I don't know how good he is at that. And then there's Eddie Izzard - but he's rather obvious. I know there have been others. If I can think of them I'll post them.
