Ben Affleck To Team With DC’s Geoff Johns On Standalone ‘Batman’ Film - Part 3

I don't think that's the case. Have you read about Mangeniello's latest comments on Deathstroke?

He's being put in for character reasons. He goes on to talk about how if Batman/Deathstroke made different choices in their pasts they could easily swap places. It got me somewhat excited because it seems like Deathstroke won't be a meathead for fight scenes, but will be used as a juxtaposition to Batman.
That sounds an awful lot like Bane-Batman. And if that's their intention, Manganiello is absolutely wrong for the part, if its not supposed to be a secondary meathead role.

You never know. Maybe Deathstroke will be his magnum opus LOL? And I prefer Slade to Bane. He has everything Bane has except Slade can be as stealthy as Batman.

Slade Wilson isn't a dumbass.

"Three beings are worthy of respect. The priest, the poet, and the warrior. To know, to create... to kill. You my genetically enhanced friend are all three. Slade the Deathstroke. Rapid healing, enhanced strength and reflexes, and enhanced intellect..."

I know he's not. Which is why Joe is bad casting.
So you're saying he's a stealthier Bane. Well, how fresh!

Honestly, If you look at some of the podcasts Manganiello participates in, he's actually quite an intelligent guy, if he's able to channel that into his Deathstroke portrayal then I'm sure he'll do well. Especially in light of how dedicated he seems to be for the role by reading almost every comic with Deathstroke and training in martial arts styles that have moves people consider "deadly".

I mean, the guy graduated in Honors from his high school and graduated from Carnegie Melon University, which is a private research college....He's not a dumbass in the slightest

Like I said, you never know. Zack Snyder, a director people on this forum call sub-par (I disagree, but I digress) wrangled the best performance of Gerard Butler's career. Where has Butler been since?

Better. He's Batman gone bad.

Maybe the inclusion of Deathstroke over someone more relevant to Batman's world like Bane is also for world building. Deathstroke being introduced could be to set up the Teen Titans/Titans in the future, or perhaps something with Nightwing. Green Arrow is a possibility too.

Whether he's intelligent in real life or not means nothing. I'm talking about him as an actor. Affleck is a pretty smart dude yet he's not a good enough actor to get himself to the point where he comes off intelligent.

I really don't care if he's reading comics or training in martial arts. He's doing his job. That's what all actors do when they get these superhero roles.

See, I hate that. Wbo cares about some Teen Titans movie that may never happen. Focus on THIS movie.

Point is he's not only dedicated to the character but is actually an intelligent person. If he's able to incorporate that aspect of himself then he can pull out a performance different than his previous.

Along with that, knowing how he is in real life, gives me enough context to say that it's not fair to assume he's only capable of meathead roles because that's the image he's been typecast in.

Honestly, my first thought was set-up for the League of Assassins
OR they could make it that he's somehow related to the Court of Owls/Talon.

Precisely what I'm thinking. DC could have gone full classic. Instead they're making it a point to introduce these middle of the road villains like Waller, Deathstroke, and Black Adam.

I agree. I would prefer that too and I think Deathstrokes introduction should have been saved for a movie that he is the main villain in. That said, if used well, Deathstroke could play a big role in a good Batman movie, if some tinkering was done to make him more relevant to Batman, like he is to the Titans. He has played a massive part in well received comic stories and runs before, as well as TV shows.

Other than Bane, which ones are you referring to.
If we're talking mirrors...what Bruce could have been if he went the other way with his training/methods, if he went the other way with his business/fortune etc..

Penguin, Black Mask, Bane, Red Hood..

Deathstroke is fine as a character in this movie, since it's a shared universe. But I almost find it insulting that he would be considered for the main villain after The Dark Knight Rises (the last solo) and this could be the ONLY time where they have a chance to deliver a solo Bat film in this universe. And they're going to use Deathstroke as the main antagonist? Like, what? And you're hiring a B or C level actor? It should be an actor with plenty of experience, someone believable. So believable that when you take his mask off and the fighting stops, you know this guy has been through hell. This is awful casting once again, just like Jesse Eisenberg.

People see a beefed up guy, and assume they are stupid.

People saying Deathstroke is just a physical villain, know nothing about the character.

Almost insulting? Come on, shauner. I understand you're disappointed, but it's not that serious. Deathstroke provides plenty of counter-balances to Batman to make a worthy adversary, and let's not crucify Manganiello until we at least see him act in this role with this script and under this director's guidance. Even Channing Tatum has shown he can deliver a good performance under proper direction. Skepticism is fine. Writing the guy off completely without having seen a single frame of footage is another.

Maybe wait and see what they come up with before throwing in the towel competely.

Who assumed Joe was stupid.

Who assumed Deathstroke was not intelligent?

I didnt say it was impossible that he could deliver a solid performance under Reeves. I didn't throw in the towel completely. And I said "almost" insulted.

Which suddenly makes them competent?

That makes them in charge. It's pretty simple, actually. The DCEU was really ambitious and WB is having their learning curves right now. They didn't have a separate division to make them movies like Disney and Lucasfilm. Be thankful, instead of complaining.
