Best and Worst CGI Ever seen in a movie????

I still say Jurassic Park's dinosaurs are the best.
They've really stood the test of time, in my opinion.
That's not an opinion. It's a fact of life. Nearly 16 years later, Jurassic Park's special effects still look amazing. Talk about being ahead of its time.

Worst: X-Men: The Last Stand

Best: Iron Man

lol its actually backwards for me...

i hated the cgi in ironman... it never looked real, the ending battle was disgustingly cgi.

x-men had decent cgi... the bridge sequence was amazing.. as well as the jeans house, and climax sequences.

True, but remember, many of JP's effects were animatronic.

There are acceptable reasons why some films have horrible CGI, then there are those that have no excuse whatsoever. One of the latter is Spider-man 3.

I can't really complain about the CGI in Iron Man.

If you want bad CGI from ILM, then go watch The Mummy Returns, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, or Van Helsing.

Titanic had great cgi. how has no one mentioned it.

Sorry to say it, but SR had the worst CGI I've seen in a movie.

somebody might have said this already, but the cgi in terminator 2 still holds up today and is as awesome now as it was then.

The only CGI that is worse than the CGI in Spawn is the movies Sci Fi Channel makes.

Did you watch part of Giant Raptors or whatever the **** it was called tonight...just wretched. Bad acting, bad plots, bad CGI...just all around bad:o

But to seamlessly mend those two together to make a whole dino was just amazing. It is IMO a true testament of time and CGI in movies. It's dinosaurs still look the best compared to any other dino movies and even to really most CGI shot of living things in movies today. It was just fantastic work.

Oh no! I make absolutely sure I steerr clear of Sci Fi on Sauturdays.

I can only imagine that you havent seen many movies then. It may have been substandard at times, maybe even poor, but to say it's the worst youve seen?

I think , given all the variables and criteria for this kind of opinion, the best has got to go to Jurassic Park. Given the fact that it was one of the first to do it, and that everyone else has been playing catch up ever since, it has got the top spot. However, I don't want to take anything away from movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, or Nolan's Batman movies. Of newer films, I've got to give best to Batman. I have absolutely no clue in hell what's CGI, and I don't think I want to.

Best CGI Films.

1 LOTR FOTR.
2 The Empire Strikes Back. It may be old but its effects holds up today even.
3 Pirates Of The Caribbean 1,2,3.
4 Spiderman.
5 Transformers.
6 King Kong.

Worst CGI films.

1 GhostRider.
2 Mummy 3.
3 Day The Earth Stood Still.
4 Eragon except for the Dragon.
5 Blade 3.
6 AVP 2.

A few bad ones off the top of my head...

Gone in 60 Seconds - car jump scene at the end... so lame

Ghost Rider -ughh....

Snakes on a Plane - though it arguably made the film better, IMO

DAREDEVIL - some of the worst CGI imaginable

Hulk - I think I could have accepted the cartoonish CGI if the film hadn't taken itself SO seriously and Ang Lee hadn't done the whole More-American-Graffitti-split-screen thing. All of those elements combined made me hate this movie.

Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I pretty much hated this movie but I think the final nail in the coffin was the ant scene. If they didn't have that (and they really, really didn't need it) maybe I could have given this movie a pass. But by including a scene that made me think of some of the worst moments of the Mummy series was unforgiveable. Speaking of which...

The Mummy Returns - This movie I actually enjoyed (despite being really cheesy) until the final scene with the cartoon Scorpion-Rock character. That looked SOOO stupid... I think this movie could have saved itself by just having Fraser and Vosloo fight the real Rock, but no... we had to endure one of the stupidest computerized creations ever to hit the big screen. Thank you, Steven Sommers. Which reminds me...

Van Helsing - Oh, how I hated this movie. EVERYTHING in it looked fake. Mr. Hyde, the werewolves, Castle Dracula, Hugh Jackman jumping a gorge with a carriage, Kate Beckinsale falling off rooftops... This was one of the most atrocious films ever made. Sommers should have been banned from Hollywood for life after this turd. But aren't we lucky. Now he's going to ruin GI Joe.

I guess one has to consider budget vs quality of CGI and make allownances accordingly.

Obviously, the bigger the budget but the crappier the FX - the worst those have to be considered.

a smart post that uses logic.

p.s. CGI means computer generated images. practical and animatronics doesnt belong in this category.

Thanks.

Although, I havent read alot of the posts on here, DB.

Are there people who have actually included In camera fx as well as animatronics in their choices?

If so, that's majorly silly given the title of the thread.

Hulk 2003 and Crystal Skull don't have bad CGI, thats absolutely ridiculous.

I think when it comes to CGI, you have to use believability as a fixed and then use quality and realism as your variables.

People can say that the CGI in those movies were probably not believable all the time, and in some cases not so realistic, but in either case, the quality was outstanding and it makes up for it, IMO.

and for those that still need help, "CGI", as used in this thread will probably consider any shot(s) in a film with significant digital components or enhancements.

The effects that really stand out in the movie were CGI, like the Brachiosaur scene in the beginning and the T-Rex finale.

Okay, well, I don't know what you consider bad CGI, but when I can tell, without any shadow of a doubt, that what I'm seeing is computer generated, I condsider it to be bad CGI.

There are some cases, like LOTR, where we know what we're seeing is CGI because no such creatures or landscapes exist. That's different. However, when I'm watching a giant Shrek in rubber pants throw tanks across the screen, or a bunch of Russians get swallowed up by a swarm of rejects from a Pixar movie, I call it bad CGI. Granted, these are not things you would see in real life, either. But good CGI could have made them look real. They did not. If you think that they did, then I suggest you see an eye doctor.

Exactly what I was thinking..That burly brawl should of been just wire work,as it took away from the movie as is...Ya,and that scene in Blade 2 was like WTF were they doing???Did'nt the director rewatch that scene with any objective view?lol.terrible..
QUOTE]

If you listen to Commentary of Blade 2 Del Toro himself says he hates that shot and the same thing with Peter Frankfurt. Their budget was up so they couldn't go back and fix them.
