Best and Worst CGI Ever seen in a movie????

Okay then... it's like he didn't try any more.

The CGI swinging in Spidey 1 completely trashes all that came later. Spidey had real weight to him, and his swings had arcs that just felt right. Sometimes, in 2 and 3, it felt like he was flying almost - completely weightless and propelled in ways that your brain just recognises as wrong.
i am 458% agreeing with you.
and i really dont want to be a nitpicky fanboy but this just is to obvious to me. and all because it worked so good in the first movie.

I think some of the best recent CGI I've seen lately is Superman Returns. Say what you will about the movie itself, but the special effects were spectacular.

dark b, 458% just isn't good enough. You troll!

So many movies to name

Transformers: The robot effects and transformations were done really well, I liked the way light reflected off of them and how they interacted with objects in the real world.

Superman Returns: Storyline wise, it fell short, but the effects were amazing, the shot of him looking at earth from outer space was great, the plane scene was great. Just about every shot of him flying was excellent.

Cloverfield: Some people have mixed feelings about the film, overall I think it was pretty good. The effects for the monster were nice, and the amount of damage it caused was also done good, even though it was a giant monster movie, it did seem somewhat believable.

Jurassic Park: Come on, Dinosaurs running around reeking havoc, badass.

There's plenty more films I could name, but these were the first few that came to mind.

Just saw Underworld 3. The animatronics were sweet but some of the CG looked like it belonged in a SciFi Channel Original Movie.

The first post mentions King Kong and i have to say that is some of the worst CGI I have ever seen.

Best: Jurassic Park, Transformers, Iron Man

Worst: The Phantom Menace

EVER was a over statement but it is far from the best. The dinosaurs just looked so very fake.

So then you feel it wasn't very good. (I disagree, but that's not the point.) It's not the worst, because I've seen CGI worse than the stuff you'd see on Power Rangers, stuff that's blatantly fake, not stuff that's debatably so.

Yeah I see what your saying, i just think people praise it while it looks so average to me, the dinosaurs in particular. Kong looks good but other than that it was kinda bleh for me.

You know, the CGI on Arnold's face in T3 is probably the best in recent years. I remember trying to spot the flaws in the theater, but was so mesmerized by the realism that I was blown away. I think it was better even than the Two Face VFX in The Dark Knight, but not by much.

I gotta go with Van Helsing, the animation in that was absolutely terrible. A close second would have to be Resident Evil 3 with the CGI birds. Third would have to be a League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

Lets see...worst effects

I always thought the sword fighting scene in Blade 2 was absolutely horrible, Blade was fighting some chick and he jumped in the air and did some sort of spinning kick, they way it was executed made Blade seem a little bit on the weightless side, it just looked awkward.

Power Rangers the movie: ROFLMAO, the Zords.........WOW......shiny as hell, I understand that they didn't want to go with the guy in a suit, but my god, those Zords looked bad, as a matter of fact, all of the CGI effects in that movie looked pretty bad.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation: WTF was that monster thing that came out of the wall!!?!?!? Horrible, Scorpions serpent spear thing looked awful. Another film where all of the CGI effects looked bad.

The Matrix Reloaded: Not all of the effects looked bad, but the CGI model for Neo didn't really look like Keanu Reeves IMO, his clothes looked funny too, but thats just my opinion.

Roger Corman's Fantastic Four: All of their powers looked ******ed. Even though the movie only had a budget of 1 million dollars, still they could have had better effects. The Human Torch looked like utter ****

So since Jurassic Park is almost a favourite of everyone here, does anyone think it's been topped?

Personally, I don't think it has. Maybe because I saw it when I was young and it's stuck with me all these years.

it was topped in detail. today the can make a more detailed animal, monster or t-rex then back then.
today they can track footage better to insert the CGI so the compositions are better. also animation would be more detailed because they now insert bones and muscles so everything moves. plus all the detail in the moouth, raytraced eyes, shine.

but as a big picture it wasnt topped.as a whole it wasnt.

Has anyone mentioned Monsters Inc? Does that count as CGI? Because the hair on Sulley was just insane. They actually pioneered that technique.

Go rent a film titled Sabrettoth one of the worst films ever with horrible CGI in some scenes the Sabretooth looks like the one from the Ice Age movies.

While I agree with you, that Sully's hair in the movie was groundbreaking, it only counts as computer animation, not a computer generated live-action effect.

watched journey to the center of the earth last night, what a waste of time.....the dinosaur in that movie literally makes you laugh out loud

I thought that shot of him swinging into the garden with Mj was practical?

I felt SM2 had alot better CG. That close up shot of him just swinging in slo mo at night and Doc ock in his last shot.

Plus, the shot that I felt was so damn Spider-Man and felt like he had real weight and felt real was when he was trying to catch up to the train with Ock, when he stamps his foot on that thin thing of the building it actually felt like he really did that. hell, I could feel somthing like that it looked so real.

Thanks for the clarification. I like both.

I'm easy :word:
