Die Hard with a Vengeance is a little more popular than I expected. Seems there isn't much love for Die Hard 2.

First one is the strongest film, and my favorite of the bunch.
Live Free or Die Hard is my favorite sequel.

I rank the rest like this:
  1. Die Hard with Vengeance
  2. A Good Day to Die Hard (I had fun watching this one)
  3. Die Hard 2 (forgettable)

This isn't even a question for me, it's the first one. BY FAR:

1. Die Hard. And action movie classic.

2. Die Hard with a Vengeance. Amazing Willis/SLJ chemistry, Jeremy Irons is a cool bad guy.

3. Live Free of Die Hard (aka Die Hard 4.0). Surprisingly enjoyable film. Surprisingly good Willis/Justin Long chemistry. Timothy Olyphant, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Maggie Q, oh yeah.

4. Die Hard 2. Forgettable but not bad.

5. A Bad Day to Suck Hard (aka DINO). UGH!!

1. Die Hard
2. Live Free or Die Hard
3. Die Hard 2
4. Die Hard With a Vengeance

The first two on the list are really good, I liked Die Hard 2, I didn't like With a Vengeance, and I haven't seen the latest.

A Good Day to Die Hard I didn't think that it was that bad of a movie but it could have been better but it is way better than Die Hard 2 because Die Hard 2 wasn't all that great either

A Good Day to Die Hard was the movie where the director would say BS crap like 'we're trying to honor the franchise/I'm a big fan of the franchise'. And the result was the complete anthesis of what made Die Hard...Die Hard.

Along the way, the franchise became what Die Hard tried not to be: a standard action movie. The first one was about a dude with no shoes who was way over his head. Then he became Superman by the 5th movie.

The second movie wasn't great, but I still love the scene when John cried when he couldn't stop the plane from exploding. That vulnerability that he had.

A Good Day to Die Hard was a beyond awful. I don't love DH2 but it doesn't deserve to be put on the same level as that dreck.

I could be one of the few that really enjoyed Die Hard 2. While it is definitely not as good as the original or With a Vengeance, it is still a great action movie. The stakes are the highest among the first three, Colonel Stuart is an evil bastard and it has the best "yippee ki yay" moment in the series.

I like the voice actor of Harvey Bullock as the guy who gave McClain his ticket.
And the 'Merry Christmas' moment revealing he's the brother of the airport security chief.

It at least still feels like a Die Hard movie. Which is definitely more than I can say for the 5th.

The worst part of Die Hard 5 was how reckless John McClane was. The death toll in that car chase is over the top, and he punched a random innocent guy in the face. For what? Not understanding English? The heck? And didn't end up stealing his car too?

After two awful Hitman movies and what he did to Die Hard 5 (along with the director) Skip Woods should be banned from Hollywood.

I really like Die Hard 2 as well. I could have done without the stuff with Holly and Thornburg on the plane, but I guess it was to give her something to do in this film.

If anything Holly she should have been in Live Free or Die Hard perhaps show up as a cameo or even have some kind of role I mean her daughter Lucy was kidnapped and not to mention her ex husband is John and seeing their daughter get kidnapped it could have brought them back together

But at the same time Die Hard 4, Live Free or Die Hard is underrated in my opinion because for a Die Hard movie Live Free or Die Hard is way better than Die Hard 2

The first Die Hard I mean what more is there really left to say about it? It is a Christmas Eve classic I mean they should do a 6th movie I mean Die Hard's 30th anniversary is coming up in 2018 and in 2018 it will be the 30th anniversary of the whole Nakatomi Hostage crisis and to have John McClane on his own 30 years later

I don't think there has been an action movie in the nearly three decades since as good as that first Die Hard film. It really is one of my favorite movies of all-time. An easy 10 out of 10.

It's interesting to see how the scale of these films has progressively escalated:

-1st movie-John McClane stuck in a building.
-2nd movie-John McClane stuck in an airport.
-3rd movie-John McClane in NYC.
-4th movie-John McClane in the Eastern seaboard of the US.
-5th movie-John McClane in an entire country (two if you count his little trip to Chernobyl).

The 6th movie is going to end up being "John McClane's globe-trotting adventure."

For the villain for the 6th movie they definitely have to have it be a son of Hans or a son of Simon who wants revenge for McClane killing his father but that the son of Hans or Simon is in the middle of his heist but that it is more secondary to him because all he cares about is revenge and killing McClane now that would be an ideal Die Hard 6 but who could play a Gruber son? How about Fassbender or Cumberbatch

He also wrote Wolverine Origins movie.
Both writer and director have a lackluster history of filmmaking.

The original is still the best although the third is pretty good too as the voting consensus seems to agree. I didn't care a lot for the second one. It always felt lacking somehow. The fourth felt vaguely related to the franchise and you could have renamed the fifth one something else and it wouldn't have been compared at all to Die Hard.
