The Proposition really needs to be on this list, cause it is indeed the best movie of the year

but since it is not, the best movie on the list is far and away the Departed

next to that there are two movies that didn't even make the list, Lucky Number Slevin, and V for Vendetta that are better than most of these movies listed

Well since you are the only one who has seen it... how the heck should we know... but only you seem to think so anyway

I saw The Proposition, and it was ok, but not near 'best of the year' status.

This list is obviously short sighted since it's made for the people on this site, my vote is probably United 93, with Cars and Monster House coming close. Keep in mind I still haven't seen many other highly rated movies like The Queen and Little Miss Sunshine, among others.

Last time I checked renting isn't that hard of a process

U93 was a bore, I don't get into Animation like the most people do so i don't agree with those.

Little Miss sunshine was good, but is a bit overrated in indie film crowds, I think there are two low budget comedies like that, that are better in Thank You for Smoking, and Clerks 2, I felt both where the two best pure comedies of the year

I enjoyed the hell out of Thank You for Smoking and Clerks 2, but I really consider those two comedies, especially Thank You for Smoking, at least not in the traditional sense. I would choose Cars for comedy if the category was that broad, but would probably settle on Borat or Talledega Nights as the best comedy if not.

The Departed was a good movie but i utterly enjoyed Casino Royale so much that i saw it multiple times. Bond is back baby!

The Departed for me . I paid 3 three times and loved it each viewing . Next would be The Prestige , V for Vendetta and Superman Returns.

Well, I've only seen 4 of the movies on this list, Superman Returns, X3, The DaVinci Code and Pirates, of those movies, I voted for DaVinci Code.

X3 - Felt way too rushed and it didn't feel like the people behind the scenes knew what storyline they wanted. Just needed to move a little slower and a better focus.

Superman Returns - Very well made movie, but the story was flat. Singer should've made his own story, not rehash what Donner did over 25 years ago.

Pirates - Just watched this for the first time today and it was just too long and the plot wasn't as interesting. The ending totally summed up what this movie was about, a setup for the 3rd movie. There was easily 30-45 minutes that could've been cut from this movie without the story suffering. I really wish Disney had the Harry Potter franchise, since they don't seem to mind long running times for the big franchises.

The DaVinci Code - This movie hit all the right notes for me. I know a lot of people had problems with the movie, but I really liked it, everything worked really well.

Either The Departed, or The Prestige.
With Hollywoodland coming in at 3rd.

I was actually disappointed with this year's supposedly "big films" like superman returns, MI3, X3, etc. i thought POTC was pretty darn entertaining, but i juuuust saw it on dvd. This would be my pick of best movie

good call

as far as horror movies go-
I also thought the Hills Have Eyes remake was very solid, especially for a remake, possibley one of the better remakes out there

and most of the 8 films to die for where at worst decent, with Grave Dancers being possibley the best

The Da Vinci Code. Tom Hanks is an outstanding actor. The movie kept me on the edge of my seat.

Soooooooo......

Did Click keep you on the edge of your seat too?

Haven't seen The Good Shepard or Dreamgirls yet so I'll wait to comment and vote.

But of what I have seen, it has been a lackluster year:

1. Little Miss Sunshine
2. The Prestige
3. The Fountain
4. The Departed
5. Flags of Our Fathers
6. Thank You For Smoking!
7. V For Vendetta
8. Hollywoodland
9. A Prarie Home Companion!

Still gotta' see Blood Diamond, The Good German, The Good Shepard and Dreamgirls though.

Oh I forgot CR and Clerks 2 both were quite good.

But overall this summer was pretty lame. MI:III and Poesidan and X3 were all teribble movies with SR, Pirates 2 and Lady in the Water being average at best.

This list is kind of....shallow. No offense though.

I don't think this year has sucked, I thought the summer was a little lame, but what do you expect from movies that try to be more important than what they are (X3, SR)

My top 10.
1. Proposition
2. Departed
3. V for Vendetta
4. Lucky Number Slevin
5. Pursuit of Happiness
6. A Scanner Darkly
7. Casino Royale
8. Clerks 2
9. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
10. Blood Diamond
