what do you guys think the best year for movies since, say 1980?

not by box office numbers, but by movie quality.

i'd have to say 2000, Gladiator MI:2 (which i liked more than MI 1 and 3), many other movies i wont name em all tho.

The fact that you like MI:II says a lot about you
I'd have to say...2005 was a good year. So was 1999.

1985 was a good year. 1989 was a great one for movie franchises. 1990 was pretty good. 1994 was interesting. `97 was another interesting one. 2002 was pretty good. And, 2005 and 2006 weren't as bad as some would think.

Hmmmmmm

Some in the 80s were pretty cool.

2004?

Shaun of the dead, Spiderman 2, Bourne supremacy, Day after tomorrow, Dawn of the dead (remake) Hellboy, Kill Bill Vol2, Oldboy (Kinda)

I can't remember what year everything came out, freaks. :cmad:
All I can say for certain is that 2006 was not it.

no need to be a d*** because i like a movie.

anyways 1989 was a good year...1997 wasnt too bad either, Titanic was that year, good movie, not bc of its box office.

Can you people list some movies from the years you admire the most?

geeze.

Well, I really didn't become more into movies until a few years ago. That said, these following years were good ones for movies:

2005

Serenity
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Batman Begins
Pride and Prejudice
The Chronicles of Narnia
The New World
Mr. and Mrs. Smith

2003

28 Days Later
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Finding Nemo
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
X2

2004

Before Sunset
The Incredibles
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Spider-Man 2
Hero
House of Flying Daggers
Hellboy
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

The entire 1970s'. Never was there a more consistent period of quality filmmaking. 1939 (The Wizard Of Oz, Mr. Smith Goes To Washigton, Gone With The Wind), 1956 (The Ten Commandments), 1959 (Ben-Hur, Some Like It Hot, North By Northwest), 1960 (Pyscho, The Apartment) and 1994 (Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction) were also all solid.

The 1980s' were a mixed bag. There was a great amount of classics (The Shining, Raging Bull, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, the John Hughes teen comedies, Die Hard), but also featured some ****.

The 1990s' had stuff like Goodfellas, Se7en, The Usual Suspects and As Good As It Gets, but was overall a mixed bag. Its big flaw was that it began the Oscars' trend of awarding the big prizes to films that were politically correct rather than films truly deserving of them.

Anyone who names any year from the 21st Century needs to have some sense knocked into them.

1985:
Back to the Future
Rocky IV
The Goonies
Fletch
The Breakfast Club
Pale Rider
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Commando
Teen Wolf
Desperately Seeking Susan
Weird Science
Santa Claus: The Movie
Ladyhawke

What, you didn't like how the girl used gymnastics to thwart the velociraptors?

The ultimate though is in three when we learned to reason with them by honking on a little horn. :)
That's when we learned that, much like the Klingons, 'Raptors have a strict code of honor. They will spare your life as long as you try to make ammends for past wrongs.

1994, for sure. How can you pick between Pulp Fiction, Shawshank, and Forrest Gump? Good god, THAT'S a Best Picture race.

And in terms of pop culturally significant pictures, '99 brought us The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, and Blair Witch.
